Can you say police state?

I wonder if this "officer" would have been so quick to start waving his gun around if he knew HE could be shot for being stupid.

Spineless DC residents should quit throwing snowballs and start suing cops to repeal the bogus gun ban. Heller v DC only repealed the ban on guns in your own home.

You'd think DC politicians were afraid of somethin...

I'm expecting to see this headline any day.

Quote:

D.C. City Council Chairman Vincent Gray proposes emergency legislation to controll snowballs.

"We have encountered a real problem in this city with criminal elements carrying illegal snowballs, many brought in from Maryland and Virginia. We must get a handle on this right away, before our police force is required to use deadly force to repel a snowball attack."

Could be because there's nobody here who believes that...

Besides, Wulfie - I figured you'd be all over this. After all, this was just a guy (he was off duty, after all, and in his own vehicle) who was pelted by snowballs (a violent attack against him!), who exercised his constitutional right to bear arms, right? I mean, wasn't he the "little guy" in this skirmish? Wasn't he being oppressed by a snowball-wielding mob?

By the way, Wulfie, what is it you're arguing here? That the cops should be disarmed when they're off-duty? That would have stopped this from happening, right?

Or are you saying that everyone else there should have had a gun, so someone could have shot the cop when he pulled his piece?

'Cuz I can pretty much tell you how THAT would have worked out. Hint: the headline would have included the words "Cop Killer Shoots Off-Duty Officer Over Snowball Fight".

So what is it that you're advocating here?

I note for the record that this is not the first time this has happened.

March 5, 1770. Five people were killed. The soldiers were tried in a Boston Court and found Not Guilty by a Boston Jury. They were defended by a fella by the name of John Adams, who lost half his clients because the case was so unpopular, but who went on to some minor success in politics.

Legally the mob, both in Boston and now in DC, were engaged in Disorderly Conduct. The officer was right in drawing his weapon in the face of their refusal to come to order.

Col Paul Revere escaped from martial law police, and 15,000 of his fellow Bostonians pulled their guns on 700 British troops and killed 40 Brits. Brits killed 25 Americans.

In 1946, 500 US military veterans opened fire on the McMinn County Sheriff Office with full-auto machine guns and dynomite, and arrested the sheriff, 300 deputies and state legisators, for shooting black voters, stealing ballot boxes and suing speeding tickets.

I think you may be on to something when you say "I don't know". That MIGHT be why not so many people have weighed in. Hell, *I* don't know what the answer is, either, but if you don't know the answer, that doesn't mean the answer is either more guns, or more shooting.

What I *did* find interesting was that the very first reaction from the police department was a denial that the pulled his weapon. Then, when the pictures started circulating, they - ahem - modified their position, and said, "We're investigating it." Shouldn't that be their FIRST reaction?

It only makes it seem more likely that the cops are ALWAYS going to have each others' backs, no matter what the evidence may show.

You got two avenues of recourse, you don't like it, little puppy boy, and shootin at the cops ain't one of em cause it would cause an escalating cycle of violence that'd leave all too many decent folk dead.

What IS it with you that makes you think a weapon in hand solves much of anything ?
Having a weapon AT hand is a deterrent, sure, but THINK ON THIS, child.

I give you a Baretta M92F in perfect order, with eighteen match grade hollowpoints.
I get eighteen unarmed random people who KNOW you mean to kill em.
End result: you are one DEAD motherfucker, you understand ?

Allies trump bullets, and as fortune would have it, some of them might be armed as well, a weapon cannot watch over you while you sleep, drag your wounded ass to cover, or any of those things another human can do - but you don't get it, do you ?

You do NOT go head on with superior force, it's idiotic, been dumb as shit since the days of rushing cannon positions when they got cannister, or glory charging machinegun pits across the trench line, only a complete fucking backbirth would think that a good idea.

No, you hit them where they're weak, or use their own strength against them.

1. You get their funding cut, and cut, and cut - we did that up here, and when they started making threats in the local newspapers editorial section, all it did was prove our case and they got cut some MORE - half the force got pinkslipped this week, merry effin xmas, we don't need their threats and malice.

2. You force THEM to obey every stinking little nitpick of every single weapons law, regulation and it's associated mountain of paperwork, and then follow on by sticking them with rigid adherence to every traffic law and code, and just fucking BURY them under the weight of the bullshit they must enforce, till they get the idea that maybe it's impossible to live under such a burden and start questioning what it is exactly they're supposed to DOING.

In this case I'd use #2, and charge his ass with brandishing, something they LOVE to arrest CCW folk for after they see off a pack of would be muggers or carjackers with a weapon, see how they like the taste of what they dish out.

But of course, you're an idiot, so I have to bash you over the head with an anvil to get a concept the size of a mustard seed through your thick fucking skull, which is mostly a waste of effort, the way I see it.

Go on and do things your way, you like, won't last long, and won't significantly raise the difficulty for folk with good sense, since it removes you as a stumbling block to them.

Damn, Frem - I thought *I* was hard on Wulfie!

Of course, you are 100% correct, and I *DO* wish he'd listen, if not to anyone else, then at least to you. I have my doubts that will ever happen, though.

And yes, the public needs to PUSH for an investigation, and for brandishing charges, and for investigating the cop and his weapons to make sure they are 100% within the legal constraints that all the rest of DC is held to.

And by the way, WHY did he have a gun on him, or even within reach, if he was off duty? I thought carrying in DC was still verboten.

Seems if you're not police, you're little people. Still.

Yeah, its stupid. But how often is doing the RIGHT thing anything other than what some would call "stupid"? As an example:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Medal_of_Honor_recipients

"1. You get their funding cut, and cut, and cut.."

Really? I agree that it will work. But most of us little peons DON'T have that kind of pull.

I agree 100%. But again, Im not a lawyer, and trying to do that without having millions of dollars and more for watchgroups ect is kind of out of our little league.

Eyewitness Confirms: D.C. Cop Freaks Out Over Snowball Fight–Brandishes Gun
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/34516682/ns/us_news-crime_and_courts/

Quote:

"An hour ago, we showed up to see a snowball fight already in progress. Two factions along 14th Street along the intersection. It was pretty friendly, mostly OK. At one point, there was one interaction with the police that I saw. A cop got stuck in the snow. People stopped and helped him out. A couple moments later, at the intersection, heading west along U was this big maroon Hummer. A small faction of people decided to target it with snowballs. They're throwing snowballs at the Hummer. It turns out the driver of the Hummer is a detective. He gets out. He's waving a walkie talkie. It's not going well. Then he starts waving a gun. He hadn't identified himself at this point. There was a point where things cooled off a bit, more police showed up, and he identified himself at that point. The name was Det. Baylor. My guess was B-A-Y-L-O-R."

What's 1 more snowball on this cop's Hummer?

Quote:

Metropolitan Police Chief Cathy Lanier said she watched video clips from the confrontation and has no doubt the off-duty detective pulled his gun after snowballs hit his personal car during Saturday's record snowfall.

"Let me be very clear in stating that I believe the actions of the officer were totally inappropriate!" Lanier said in a statement after the videos made the rounds on YouTube. "In no way should he have handled the situation in this manner."

Lanier said the detective, whom she did not identify, did not deny the accusations. He is on desk duty until an investigation is complete.

Assistant Police Chief Peter Newsham told reporters Monday that the detective's badge and weapon have been withdrawn.

At one point, the crowd begins to chant: "Don't bring a gun to a snowball fight!"

Oh, come on! You're nothing BUT self-righteous. You actually BELIEVE that you're the hero in a shitty movie. You really seem to believe that! If that isn't the height of self-righteous assholiness, then I don't know what is.

By the way, it would seem that Frem's assertion has been brought to life yet again. Here we have a case of the cop clearly having superior firepower - and even having other officers show up to back him up - and yet still, it's the crowd with the cameras that's winning this battle. The cop looks like an asshole, and I'd bet before it's all said and done, he faces some harsh disciplinary action if he doesn't lose his job outright. So yes, allies (especially the kind with cameras) can be greater than force.

I ignored the thread because I'd heard the story on the news already so didn't figure there was much to discuss and because I kinda knew the sort of discussion which would ensue...not to mention the predictable players. See I wasn't wrong...

The cop was an asshole. He could, it seems to me, have easily shown a badge or something and said "knock it off"...it was a snowball fight, for gawd's sake.

Given he did what he did instead, he should be disciplined, period. Showed bad decision-making skills, and potentiall a "controller" mentality.

I'm glad the cameras were around.

The cops who came shouldn't have done what they did, they should have talked sternly to him (I don't think taking him in was warranted) and apologized to the crowd. Period.

The idea that he'd have been (or should have been) restrained if the crowd also brandished weapons is too absurd to deal with, and Frem already covered it better than I could. Responding to a gun with a gun doesn't guarantee anything, especially up against a cop! Mike gave us the resulting headline perfectly.

Yanno, in nations with high gun ownership - like Switzerland, which is always held up as the model to which we should aspire- gun registration is universal.

Too bad you're an idiot. You do a great dis-service to your cause.

You globalists always crack me up.

One world, one world, you scream!

You worry so much about the neighbors house, which has a crack in their foundation, while your own burns.

Sig, if you are going to lift up some other country as the "model" we should follow... move there first.

I'd feel bad, but I noticed you don't pay much attention to Frem either, so I just tend to chalk you off as "newbie".

Meanwhile, thought I'd post a clip of my own: Death Of Kodak Park

Makes room for Mom and Pop shops to get their chance.

ETA: Oh hell Sig, I pay ALOT of attention to Frem, AND to you btw. Just cus I dont agree with you doesnt mean Im not listening.

I dunno - do you think that the crowd would have even thrown snowballs at his vehicle if they thought he was armed and could pull a gun on them? :)
