Just found this interesting; we know so little about these things, except what the pundits throw at us, that I found a slightly more detailed description worthwhile:
Quote:

President Obama on Monday unveiled a $3.8 trillion budget for next year. Here are some key points. Remember, these are Obama's suggestions. Congress controls the purse strings.

Still a little extra in your paycheck

The Making Work Pay tax breaks would be extended for a year. These were part of last year's stimulus and resulted in slightly higher paychecks for 110 million families, the White House said.

More money for education

Obama wants $3 billion more for elementary and secondary education programs and $1.35 billion for his Race to the Top program. Pell grants, which help students pay for college, would increase by $17 billion.

Big-shovel items

The president is seeking more than $100 billion for state and local infrastructure projects and $4 billion for national and regional infrastructure work.

Debt reduction

The president's budget would reduce the nation's debt by $1.2 trillion over the next 10 years. Obama would let the Bush tax cuts expire for high-income families, impose a "financial crisis responsibility fee" on large banks and end fossil-fuel tax subsidies for oil, gas and coal companies. Discretionary spending that is not defense-related would get a three-year cap, saving $250 billion over the next 10 years. Read more

Big incentives for small business

Small businesses would get a $5,000 tax credit for every net new employee hired this year. Startups launched this year would be eligible to halve the tax credit. Businesses also would be reimbursed for Social Security taxes they pay on increased payrolls this year. Companies could earn the credit by raising pay or increasing hours worked. Read more

Defense

To pay for wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, Obama is seeking $33 billion in supplemental funds for this budget year and $159.3 billion for next year's. Funding for military families would increase 3 percent to $8.8 billion. The president would appropriate in advance $50.6 billion for veterans' medical care.

Research and development

Clean energy research and development would get $6 billion and civilian research and development would get an extra $3.7 billion.

Security at home

The administration seeks $734 million to install 1,000 new full body scanners at airports. Overall Department of Homeland Security funding would increase 2 percent to $43.6 billion.

What do you think about the budget?

Proposed budget savings

• Discontinue the program to build a repository for nuclear waste at Yucca Mountain, Nevada. Savings in 2011: $197 million

• End oil and gas company tax preferences. Savings in 2011: $2.6 billion. Over 10 years: $36.5 billion

• End coal subsidies. Savings over 10 years: $2.3 billion

• Terminate program to develop an alternative engine program for the Joint Strike Fighter. Savings in 2011: $465 million

• Terminate production of C-17 transport. Savings in 2010: $2.5 billion

• Cancel the Constellation Systems program intended to return astronauts to the moon by 2020. Savings per year: $2.5 billion to $5 billion Read more

• Eliminate subsidies to student loan providers and increase the Department of Education's capacity to make loans directly to students. Savings over 10 years: $43 billion

• Terminate program to build EP-X manned airborne intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft. Savings in 2011: $10 million

• End grants to manufacturers of worsted wool. Annual savings: $5 million

• Eliminate grant program for inter-city bus security. Annual savings: $12 million

• End competitive grant program for local communities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Savings in 2011: $10 million

• Terminate the Navy's Next Generation Cruiser. Savings in 2011: $46 million

• End Corps of Engineers low-priority construction projects. Savings in 2011: $214 million

• Terminate Christopher Columbus Fellowship Foundation, aimed at fostering "new discoveries in all fields of endeavor for the benefit of mankind." Savings in 2010: $1 million.

The size and scope of Obama's budget is nothing short of criminal.

The propaganda coming out of this White House is unparalleled in American history.

Cuts in science and discovery , which would have branded any GOP President as " anti - science " go barely noticed.

Pork and agenda driven funds for NASA are being spent instead of sending man back to the moon. NASA is getting MORE money, but we'll have far less to show for it.

A $734,000 body scanner ? Sure, let's purchase 1000 of those suckers, for 734 MILLION dollars. But does that cost include maintenance ? What of the training for technicians and TSA agents to operate them ? That's more jobs created, but who is going to pay for it all ? The airlines ?

Those funds for 'shovel ready' jobs ? How much $$ is being wasted on frivolous and wasteful junkets , like this one -

DeKalb Schools Spending $382K On Hollywood Conference

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- Channel 2 Action News has learned that nearly 200 DeKalb County school employees will be boarding flights to Los Angeles this week to attend an education conference that will cost taxpayers nearly $400,000. The money isn’t coming from local tax dollars but from federal dollars that came to the county as part of the Obama administration’s 2009 stimulus package.

Stimulus money from Washington is often discussed in terms of “shovel ready” construction projects that are supposed to create jobs for unemployed Americans.
But the DeKalb County School System has decided to use stimulus money to attend a four-day conference sponsored by America’s Choice, which a schools spokesman calls “a great thing.”

The organization’s Web site describes it as a “solution provider" ... that offers “comprehensive, proven solutions to the complex problems educators face in an era of accountability.” The Web site also says America’s Choice has “an unparalleled history as a national thought leader.”

Ahh yes... the solutions to all of our education problems lies in Hollywood, CA !!!

But how much money will the new budget have to cover Bobby Jindal's church junkets?

Quote:

Bobby Jindal Using Taxpayer Money For Helicopter Rides To Church

Well, at least he isn’t using it for silly things like monitoring volcanoes.

Over five months, Jindal took more than three dozen helicopter trips. Fourteen were to attend church services, according to state records.

He worshipped in Hornbeck, Many, Logansport, Angie, Elizabeth, Harrisonburg, Columbia, Winnsboro, Coushatta, Robeline and Anacoco.

At least two aides usually accompanied him along with his security detail and State Police pilots. The public pays their salaries as well as the fuel and upkeep for the helicopter.

The helicopter that the governor uses the most costs $1,200 an hour to operate — about $45,000 for five months of church visits.

Did you just call going to Church a " junket " ?

Now THAT'S FUNNY!

State of LA's problem, not an issue on Federal $$. If the cajun's have a problem w/ that, then they'll vote accordingly.

So why are you worried about your local teachers going to L.A. for a conference, again? Seems like a state problem, and you should be taking it up with your local school board to see why they're wasting federal money on a local issue.

Yes, Obama's budget is nearly 2.5 x's what Bush's was, as compared to GDP. THAT'S what I mean by criminal.

I just think it's funny that you never had a single problem with Bush's spending, even though you're "not a Republican". He more than doubled the Clinton budget, increasing federal spending by more than 100%, and increased discretionary spending by over 95%, yet you never uttered a peep in protest. That's hilarious that you'd be upset now.

Ahhh - so it's not WASTE you're against, or foolish spending of money - it's just the spending of FEDERAL money.

You DO realize that your shitty little state takes more money FROM the federal government than it pays TO the federal government, right? So I have to ask: Can we have our money back?

Not really, I was always upset at W's expansion of the Federal Gov't, and spending. Farm Aid, Education, bailing out the airline industry.... The Prescription Drug Bill, while regretable, was far smaller than what the Democrats wanted, and is generally seen as a success, at least by those who benefit from it.

And 6 straight years of economic growth under Bush is far, FAR better than we'll see in Obama's 1 term.

Again, it sounds like you should take that up with your local school board, and ask them WHY they are using FEDERAL money that was supposed to stimulate job growth, and using it to go on vacation. Seems like an abuse of power at YOUR end of the federal dole, not at Obama's end. But that's just typical of you Republicans, to blame Obama for everything your local yahoos do wrong.

Oh, by the way, I just ran a few numbers real quick, because I was a bit bored watching the Saints wail the shit out of the Colts.

That "on fire" economy that 'Rappy was going on about during the entirety of Bush's reign? Yeah, it peaked at 14198.10, a lofty high indeed, on October 11, 2007. And yet, from that high point, it lost almost FORTY-FIVE PERCENT of its value in less than a year and a half.

The Dow closed at 7949.09 on January 20, 2009 (Bush's last day in office, and Obama's first). The economy that Obama is "destroying" with his "criminal" budget? Yeah, the Dow has gained OVER TWENTY-FIVE PERCENT in his first year in office.

Contrast that with Bush's first term.

Clinton's last full day in office was January 19, 2001. On that day, the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 10,587.59.

Bush's first day in office was the following day -- January 20, 2001 -- the day of his inauguration, which was a Saturday. On the following Monday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 10,578.24.

Prior to 9/11, on September 10, 2001, the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 9,605.51, which means it had already fallen almost a thousand points BEFORE the 9/11 attacks really screwed the pooch.

From there, the Dow continued to slide, reaching its lowest point of the Bush years (7,702.34) on July 23, 2002 - a feat it almost repeated on his last day in office!

Given all that - INCLUDING 9/11 - it seems rather odd to call a growing economy one that is "destroying" America, especially as Rappy seems to believe in capitalism. Hailing someone who cost the Dow almost half its wealth in his last 18 months in office, while decrying as a "criminal" someone who has rebuilt more than a quarter of that wealth in a year, seems disingenuous at best, and downright idiotic at worst.
