Aside from those tons of chemical weapons they found back in 2004 and 2005 (most of which were unaccounted for and depleted pre-1991)...they recently found a big ass missile long hidden by the Saddam regime.

I am looking at that picture and I don't see much of a weapon there. It looks rather lame. I get the feeling some people are grabing at straws to come up with anything to make that claim real. One third rate missle does not equal mass destruction.

Supposedly it's a chinese silkworm anti-ship missile.

I've been trying to identify the gold symbol painted on the near fin, with no success.

It could be left over from the Iraq/Iran War. It may have been lying there for ages. I would be more frightened of the urchins that sprayed the graffiti on it.

Traveler: That's kind of what I was thinking. The Chinese apparently sold to both sides during that conflict.

Maybe they buried it when they realized it's an anti-SHIP missile and they're both landlocked nations... Though more likely it was buried to hide it during the embargo.

Your right...years of being buried in the sand could not possibly have some kind of negative impact on its function.

Thats why Saddam buried those Russian Migs in the sand by the airbase...so they'd be ready to fly at a moments notice.

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

"Hero", you're falling into a logical trap you really SHOULD know better than to fall into. Firstly, you're blindly accepting that this is a "weapon of mass destruction" and therefore its existence in and of itself completely justifies the "pre-emptive war" policy of the so-called Bush Doctrine.

Secondly, You're also assuming that if it exists, Saddam did it. That kind of logic is what still has Sarah Palin convinced that Saddam was the planner behind 9/11, not Osama.

The problem is what the pictures show so obviously do not fit the story being spun, a treasure map to the WMD written in crayon would have more credibility.

If the US can or will not hold its leaders to account, things will only get more and more ugly

Yemeni scholar backs 'jet bomber'
Al-Aulaqi has been linked to numerous attacks including the November US military base shootings [EPA]

Sheikh Anwar al-Aulaqi , a Yemeni religious scholar, has told Al Jazeera that the suspect accused of attempting to blow up a US passenger jet on Christmas Day, was one of his students.

Al-Aulaqi said that he did not order the attempted suicide attack on the airliner, but that US civilians were legitimate targets since they bore responsibility for their "government's crimes".

"Omar Farouq, may Allah free him, is one of my students ... But I did not issue a fatwa [religious edict] allowing him to carry out this operation," the US-born Al-Aulaqi said in an exclusive interview.

Farouq, a young British-educated Nigerian, currently in US custody for allegedly trying to detonate explosives stitched to his underwear as the plane carrying about 300 people made its descent to Detroit airport, has reportedly told US investigators that Awlaki had directed him to explode the bomb.

"I support what he did after I have been seeing my brothers being killed in Palestine for more than 60 years, and others being killed in Iraq and in Afghanistan," Al-Aulaqi said.

"And in my tribe too, US missiles have killed 17 women and 23 children, so do not ask me if al-Qaeda has killed or blown up a US civil jet after all this," he said.

'Legitimate targets'

Al-Aulaqi said it "would have been better" if the plane targeted in the attempted attack was a military one or a "US military target", but that the American people were "responsible for their policies" and therefore legitimate targets.

"The American people are the ones who have voted twice for [President George] Bush the criminal, and elected [President Barack] Obama who is not different from Bush.

"The American people take part in all its government's crimes ... They pay the taxes which are spent on the army and they send their sons to the military, and that is why they bear responsibility," he told Al Jazeera.

Al-Aulaqi has been linked to a number of attacks in the US and Europe, including the November shootings at the US Fort Hood military base in Texas, in which Nidal Hasan, a US army psychiatrist, was charged with killing 13 people.

A US security official told the Wall Street Journal on Saturday: "Anwar Al-Aulaqi is a member of the al-Qaeda leadership in Yemen ... We believe that he should be captured, tried and convicted."

'US occupation'

Al-Aulaqi also said that he considered Yemen to be occupied by US forces.

"US drones continuously fly over Yemen. What state is that which allows its enemy to spy on its people and then considers it as 'accepted co-operation?'.

"Yemeni officials tell the Americans to strike whatever they want and ask them not to announce responsibility for the attacks to avoid people’s rage," he said.

Yemen's national security agency has said Al-Aulaqi is based in Yemen's remote Shabwa province, protected by a family tribe that controls the region.

"Some people and governments are distinguished by certain qualities; as you may say this person is tall, and that is stubborn, the Yemeni government's special quality is lying.

"It lies to its people, to its neighbours and to America ... It lies to everyone," he said.

A former imam in Denver, Colorado, and San Diego, California, Al-Aulaqi said the US was a "tyrant", and that "tyrants across history have all had terrible ends".

"I believe the West does not want to realise this universal fact," he said. "Muslims in Europe and America are watching what is happening to Muslims in Palestine, Iraq and Afghanistan, and they will take revenge for all Muslims across the globe."

Maybe people here have more of a common cause with the Muslim world than you realized...

Problem is Mike nobody can get to your leaders that simply...

that is why embassy's, and airplanes, and other thing get hit...

Look at things from the other point of view

Madeline Albright, Clintons secstate saying 500,000 dead Iraqi children was worth stopping Saddam from having WMD which he didn't have...

Now if it was 500,000 dead Americans... you'd likely be nuking somebody. But nobody seems to get the rage against the US comes from a very honest place.

And this is only one example

Thats a WMD? Really??? Looks more like one of those rocket ships that you find on the kiddie rides in the amusement park.

One person from that link even suggested that Saddam moved the WMDs to Iran so as not to get caught with his fly open. Really? So all that 'intelligence' that was gathered by US spy experts and displayed by Colin Powell was actually the wrong info.

So the countless satellites we had trained on that region totally missed the movement of these huge stockpiles of WMDs to our enemies in Iran. Wasn't there a team of experts that actually went there looking for these weapons and found nothing. So Bush failed yet again to find even this little trinket. Imagine that!

"Hero" actually lives in that part of Ohio where good ol' John "Boner" Boehner (R - Loompaland) is hailed as a hero. I'm sure Snooki from Jersey Shore is probably big there as well. They DO seem to love their bright orange spray-on tans.

And the only patriotic thing about Bozo the Boozy Boner is his eyes. You ever looked at his eyes when he's speechifyin'? I swear, they're red, white, and blue. No kidding.

I still get a good laugh out of his speech honoring the Tuskegee Airmen, where he seemed to be totally 'faced, and kept slurring his words and pronouncing it "Tusssh-Keeee-Jeeee". Classic. I thought he was trying to do an impersonation of Foster Brooks!
