Aw. I was really hoping he'd say "clusterfuck." In any context. It would be joyously obscene, and there's so much these days it could apply to.

Lots of things that should be done a certain way, but HAVE to be done another - in this case because of blind obstructionism.

consensus from the commie korner ?

It's o.k., when Obama does it.

It's a good cause, since an extra trillion bucks added to our already expanding debt is nothing really to worry about.

Yeah, Bizarro-Rappy was actually the REASONABLE one!

And I don't know what the deal is, but lately the Crapster acts like it's actually some kind of valid insult to toss around words like "commie" and "communist". Seems he's forgotten that Bush made sure we were number one trading partners with a bunch of "communists".

But throwing that word around like it's some kind of ultimate insult is just such an anachronism. Has he REALLY not grown since the McCarthy era? Seriously? What's next, calling us a bunch of "fluoridators"? Or Hessians? Or (more likely) *myrmidons*?

Superb non sequitur. 'Trading' with communist doesn't make you one.

Well, if it's just the ONE...

But, yes, trading with the communistS doesn't make you a communist - it just makes them very rich communists, and you a very poor capitalist.

How much of our debt are they holding now, as a direct result of Bush financing his unfunded wars through the Chinese?

A few years ago you responded to one of my posts with a similar message. I believe the exact words were "Eff you, you steaming pile of go se." Pretty amazing that out of all the hundreds of posts I've received since then, I can still remember how that particular one stung me, mainly because I didn't see it coming. Thing is, I understand where it comes from now with you and some others, I really do. 'Cause I can see the same viral reactions all over the media against those they disagree with. Even during the recent Olympics I saw a network "reporter" interviewing Gold medalist snowboarder Shaun White. He mentioned his patented move the "Tomahawk" and all she could do was spout out some deranged reference to a Tomahawk missile starting the Iraq War. I mean really?...at the Olympics? Shaun White looked at her like she was totally nuts. That's how bad it is out there in some quarters. Seems tolerance, respectful understanding, and acceptance of other's rights to opinions and free speech have also sunk to new all-time lows in America, and that's really a shame.

Sorry, Story - you missed it. Byte had asked that we engage Rappy, so I obliged her, just to illustrate why it's pointless to do so. Rappy posts up his "facts", they are quickly, roundly, EASILY debunked and refuted, time and time again, and he sits there and insists that he's right, you're wrong, and he's won every "debate" he's ever partaken in.

And yes, this even includes now claiming that McCarthy was 100%, undeniably, inarguably right.

THAT is a measure of just how deluded the guy is.

Maybe so Kwicko, but you haven't seen language or attacks like that from me in a long time. Truth is, most of what is posted in RWED upsets and irks me every day. I do read through most of the threads, but I find it impossible to jump in because I'm going to disagree with many, and that will often lead to nasty replies. So I play it safe, and generally only post in threads where I feel compelled to say something that is generally fair, reasonable, and hopefully un-offensive. My days of attacking or setting myself up to be attacked are long over. I am quite content to sit on the sidelines when these things get nasty, or when someone is trashing things I believe in. I guess I'm a bit of a coward in that regard, but the other option is worse.

NIKI2

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

JS, I've not been here long, but what I've seen has been reasonable from you; that's all I care about. The noisome wind mentioned has never changed tactics nor made ANY attempt to do otherwise than trash others with filh--except when it puts something up that is easily refuted, whereby it reverts to nastiness. There is no comparison.

I don't blame Chris for blowing--he rarely does, and it's why I've reverted to not engaging and finding my own way to ignore. Peace, Chris; remember the source you are dealing with. I don't personally mind you blasting occasionally, I get a visceral satisfaction about someone else saying the things I USED to think, before I realized it IS nothing but hot-air wind.

On the topic: I find nothing wrong in a President hoping to do things reasonably, then when finding out (after myriad attempts at compromise) that reasonableness is futile, deciding to go an alternate route. If we want to compare flip-flops, goodness, there are far too many examples of both the past president AND the recent presidential candidate on the right making amazing flip-flops which have no basis in reality and are diametrically opposed to what they have said, SPONSORED or voted for in the recent pass.

Ergo; the initial point of the thread has no meaning to me, just hot air wind failing at an attempt to say

"I'm just right. Kinda like the sun rising in the east and the world being round...its not a need its just the way it is." The Delusional "Hero", 3/1/10

You're right about that, of course. And it was low of me to point it out, but I just wanted to illustrate that everyone has to go through their own bit of "evolution" in that regard, and some are further along than others. And Chris backslides occasionally (while I, on the other hand, do it daily, if not hourly. )

Lots of what gets posted here doesn't really upset me, it just pisses me off because people are passing on wrong information, and when corrected on it, they not only refuse to accept said correction, they get more and more defensive AND offensive about it, and insist that their dead-wrong information is dead-right.

Quote:

I wouldn't call it cowardly; I just can't sit by when the things I believe in are attacked. Maybe it's that smart-ass gene expressing itself, but I have just never been able to keep to myself when people are spreading spurious information about things which I hold strong beliefs about. Were this the middle ages, I'd have been hanged as a heretic many times over, no doubt...

It helps, in any argument, to go in with cites and sources, and backups for them. It was mentioned on another thread that one poster put up his source, it was roundly debunked, and he commenced with insulting everybody who proved him wrong - and NEVER offered up any other facts to support his position. When I was in school, that earned you a grade of "FAIL".

Definitely not a coward when you refrain from partaking in something for which there is no purpose, that's Intelligence. And I know exactly what you're talking about, I'm sure a lot of people do. You react to a post or thread idea, type out a response and then delete it thinking, "what's the point?"

Kwicko, you're just a lot tougher than I am. You have an amazing ability to never relent, and your "opponents" definitely know it. That's why no one, or almost no one, goes toe-to-toe with you. I was just kinda funnin' with Chris' post. He can say anything he wants, because he provides much entertainment in everything he does here.

Pizmo; oh, how many times have I done THAT--maybe not enough times, but yeah, I relate, big time!

NOTHING I've ever posted here was as funny as Gino's last one in the dittohead thread...

Pizmo, thanks for your reply. It's taken me a long time to understand that. It's the same in many regards to what I've been thru on my job...In the past when I'd be on a conference call concerning a problem or new project I would feel the need to dominate the call because of my experience, or at least be forcefully vocal about my ideas and plans, and why I was right, and why their ideas wouldn't work. Then one day a manager who was on one of those calls told me that others on the call had told him that they thought I was a bully and close-minded, and didn't really feel comfortable working with me. Wow, that assessment really hit home and it hit me hard. I started to think about it....and I developed a new outlook that says "there is NO glory in being right at the expense of alienating others; the real glory comes from getting people to find common ground and agree on something." Since then, my job as a project manager has been much more satifying and much less stressful. If the group likes it, I find a way to like it. That's just my job. Here in RWED I do try to stand by my beliefs and principles, but I'll never take it to a point where I won't feel good logging onto this site any more.

I have a vote and I'm not afraid to use it!

Interesting comments Jong - they give me much food for thought.

But off the top of my head (I have to get back to putting some equipment together) I have some immediate responses:

1) While we will never truly know anything - not even whether we exist - some information has proven to be more useful than others, for example F = ma. If you are experienced and the questions are technical, it may be that you do have the best ideas going.

2) Perhaps there is a way to state your opinions, your experiences, the facts you are drawing from, and your beliefs so as to invite discussion about differences, rather than becoming a target.

3) I would LIKE to think that we have all grown (or most of us, anyway) through posting here and through our lives such that, at some point, you will feel more comfortable expressing yourself.

Familiar, JS. My way of being has always been rather "dramatic" (bipolarity to blame; my story and I'm sticking to it!), but I've always been a pacifist. I just sound aggressive.

Supervisor once told me my co-workers were afraid of me, too, which shocked me as I liked them all and thought we got along.

Buddhism has helped immensely, as has therapy. Mostly I learned to accept myself, and somehow just doing that moderated me somewhat. Will always be me, tho', and no amount of meditation, going to temple or intellectual attempts will change that. All I can do is make sure I TRY, and make sure my actions aren't aggressive (which never was a problem).

So I can relate, believe me!

Worry not Jong, even at the very worst, I did note that you were moving in that direction, and ironically it was over something thrown at you with MUCH more vitriol than Chris was winging here - but as you've seen me do to Wulfie, and yourself back then, even when dispensing vitriol like a firehose I *AM* trying to argue a point or educate, cause if I truly felt someone was hopeless I wouldn't even acknowledge em for the most part.

I don't recall the exact specifics of the discussion, but it was about *why* the folk in the middle east are so pissed off, and the motivations behind it, as well as how the only thing keeping them fundamentalists in power was the threat we present, which if we removed, and then quietly sat by while they railed and screeched about a "threat" that never materialised, would find them out of power in short order, especially if we quietly supported the more reasonable folk without being offensive about it...

I was anything but nice about it at the time cause was annoyed as hell with ya in much the same fashion and for similar reasons, that I currently am with Wulfie, but upon seeing your reaction was more "Well shit, I gotta think about that." than "Die heretic!", I was convinced you would at least try to think it over, which was enough for me.

And look, here we are, talkin like reasonable folk do over coffee, eh ?

I don't rip folks heads off for the sake of doin it, yanno.

Yesterday's little sidetrack-to-the-soul was a good experience for me, and hopefully others too. I appreciate the input I got from everyone here.
