The United States has 82.7 Trillion dollars of debt on and off the books. Look on,(usdebtclock.org).
We have 154,000,000 people working in the United States out of 307 million people.

When you divide 82.7 Trillion dollars by 154 million people....we each owe $538,000.00 dollars. We each owe over half a million dollars for the debt. We are bankrupt.

I understand that the Unemployment rate the governmemt uses is based on "working aged able bodied people" and this uses all americans. However, the taxes only come from those working and the debt supports all 307 million.

Is there another way to look at this or is this really the bottom line?

Hmmmm...dunno, that's a complex equation. Given in part I don't believe "we" are responsible for the debt, our government is. Beyond that, the government and business sectors make money off many things that the Americans themselves can't compete with, its share of the debt which IT can make up comes into it, for me.

But as to bankrupt? Yes, of course we are. Have been, actually, for decades. Our decline has been going DOWN for decades; our profits due to letting other countries earn OFF us, as in shipping business out of the country, has been going on for quite some time, as well. IF we were to retrieve our position in the world (which we could do a lot of by being on the cutting edge of things rather than letting the world leave us behind in new technology, etc.) we could recoup a lot. Don't see it happening any times soon, however...

Those numbers are real. But they don't include $70-trillion stolen from govt CAFR "pension" funds EVERY YEAR. You'll NEVER hear the word CAFR mentioned on any TV "news" nor any "university", but every politician and stockbroker worships their own CAFR like the Piggybank God.
