REAL WORLD EVENT DISCUSSIONS

This is a little disturbing. And kinda hilarious, in a kharmic way... (Not PN)

Massive break-in nets $75,000,000 worth of prescription drugs from a Lilly warehouse in Connecticut.

On the one hand, this disturbs me because of the direction it shows things moving in. If this is organized crime (and this DOES seem quite organized!), it looks like they've decided to say to hell with the middleman, forget pharmacy break-ins or small-time stuff like forging prescriptions or stealing doctors' identities, and decided to go straight to the source without even wasting the risk of hijacking the trucks.

On the other hand, there's part of me that wants to point and laugh at Lilly for having this happen to them. A spokesman says that people "should only buy prescription pharmaceuticals from a licensed professional". But they've made that prohibitively expensive, so I'm sure these will be on the black market, and they'll be considerably cheaper than what you pay at the pharmacy after seeing the doc to get your feel-good prescription. As always, if there's demand and the price is deemed too high, there WILL be a criminal black market. Simple economics in action.

But then, looking a little deeper, another source says that one of the drugs stolen (pallet loads worth) was an anti-psychotic, and that it's Lilly's biggest seller. And what I'm wondering (and pardon me if this seems like Frem's or PN's territory here) is, "How fucked are we as a country if the big seller is ANTI-PSYCHOTIC medication? Are we creating that many psychopaths now?"

And yet another story cites another spokesperson for the company saying this $75 million heist won't really impact Lilly's bottom line, hurt their finances, or deplete their supplies of these drugs.

So is that a spokesperson who just lost his job by saying that? Does anyone find that a bit outrageous, the idea that you could lose $75,000,000 worth of product and not be hurt by it at all? That tells me that they're making too much money, or that they're "too big to fail".

And if it doesn't hurt them, then I guess there's no point in investigating the crime, eh? Seems victimless to me! In fact, maybe there should be MORE of these break-ins. And there will be, I've no doubt.

Certainly trying to...or rather, trying to get as many people DIAGNOSED as needing anti-psychotics, I should say. We all know over-diagnosis is a problem, and I just saw an ad on TV for a "depression" medication which Choey is on for Bipolarity and we both know is actually an ANTI-PSYCHOTIC!

As to the rest: scary, and yes, it does indicate something about their profit margin and how effective Big Pharma has been and is being...sigh...
