Bellevue woman donates tax refund to Haiti relief – then wins $50,000 lottery

The time of year would suggest that she has good luck, but her story suggests that she has better karma. Renee Green is a receptionist billing clerk at a software company in Bellevue, she is also very generous – last weekend she donated her entire tax refund, $700, to the Haiti fund.

Her selfless behavior sure seems well timed. Tuesday morning she won $50,000 playing Scratch from Washington’s Lottery.

“I was on my way to work and I stopped at 7-Eleven and picked up a milk, a donut and two scratch tickets,” she Renee. “I went to work and scratched it and discovered I’d won $50,000.”

She described her reaction as “dumbfounded.”

She called her boyfriend at work and asked if he was sitting down. Then she took a picture on her phone and sent it to him. After he looked at the photo he quickly called back and said, “I got the day off! You need to get the day off!”

Renee shops at the same 7-Eleven store every day.

“I stop in and I get a milk and a donut,” she said “I went back that morning because I wanted to make sure that I wasn’t dreaming. ...The owner of the store was outside and he asked, ‘why are you back from work so soon?’” She told him why, and he gave her a big hug.

Though Renee only found out she had won this morning, but she knows exactly what she is doing with her money. “I’m buying a bed, just like the Heavenly Bed from the Westin,” she said. “They’re the bomb!”

She’s also going to give each of her two kids $1,000.

Oh yeah, her second ticket was a $10 winner.

Renee bought her $50,000 winning “5 Star Cash” Scratch ticket from 7-Eleven at 3233 156th Ave. S.E. in Bellevue.
