Question is if we got the prequels would it diminish the verse just as bad as they did for the Star Wars universe? Is Firefly/Serenity only as good as it is because it didn't last long enough to hit the down swing?

Do you count the SW prequels in that comparison?

I never do.

I do.
And I'll admit that episodes 4 thru 6 are iconic & ingrained in our pop mythos, but like Blade Runner, Firefly is already having its influence felt in good SF like a positive viral agent- take the anime series Planetes for example. SO influenced by Joss.

No, I believe it would have stayed great throughout most of its run.
But resurrecting now would be like the Trek films. And don't get me wrong- I loves me my Trek, but re-capturing that magic is SOOO tricky. For the most part, the Trek movies failed IMO. I'd rather Firefly not continue, unless the SAME, COMPLETE team could be put back together.

Nothing had ever made me feel the incredibly satisfying and thrilling emotions as when I first saw Star Wars opening weekend in May of 1977. They gave me a button at the box office which said "May the Force be with you." I had no idea what that meant, but I soon learned.

Empire Strikes Back was great, but it wasn't the same as Star Wars for me. The rest of the movies were never able to capture the same magic either.

First time I watched Serenity was at home on a big screen without any knowledge of Joss or the FF 'verse. It blew me away. It was thrilling and different, and I just knew that I had to find out what it was that I had just seen. That led me to Amazon and Firefly DVDs. If I was only allowed to have 1 franchise to ever view again I would choose Firefly/Serenity over anything else.

I have that kind of memory about Serenity. I got to see it in a prescreening and it was the best environment ever. Just a ton of browncoats who were sooooo excited. Best movie going experience ever.

Agreed, but in that unlikely eventuality, I think a resurrection of the verse would definitely be great. I don't know what the plot would be with Book and Wash dead but I trust Joss.

I know a lot of the reasoning at this moment is that everyone is working on different things and couldn't get together but I'm sure they could find the time to do a mini-series and if sci-fi let them it would outstrip any of the garbage I've seen from them lately or have heard that they have in production. Plus, given the length of season 1, a mini-series would be just like a season 2. I still don't know why this isn't happening.

I pray for one last landing,
on the globe that gave me birth.
Let me rest my eyes on the fleecy skies
and the cool, green hills of Earth.
