The interesting thing about that, is that we're seeing a strange pattern here, and I don't wanna call confirmation till we have enough evidence, but it *looks* like when you reduce the number of police in an area (usually by hacking their bloated budget down) that the level of crime decreases...

Now, whether that is because no one bothers with petty nitpick bullshit or that there's less reporting, or what, we're still workin up the data, but there *does* seem to be a correlation between how many cops and how much crime - since actually doin that part of the job seems less important to them than things like rabid traffic enforcement and asset seizure, yanno, things that make money, grrr.

They're about to take *another* budget busting in retaliation for raiding a charity poker game, during which a damned lot of money went missing all quick and quiet like.

This sticks *ME* in a bad position because of the moral and ethical implications of stomping on them, because I will in fact profit from it, whether that is my motivation or not, and the whole idea of a "private army takeover" as some of the boys in blue have called it, doesn't exactly sit well with me even if the local attitude *IS* "hail to the overlord", cause of the Chavez factor - you do *not* concentrate that much power in the hands of so small a group, or even one person, no matter how decent they are because some day it'll fall to someone who isn't, and no one is immune to the corruption of power and the temptation to misuse it.

And yet, if it comes down to either my people, or some slime like Wackenhut/Group4 - THEN what ?

You wanna talk about a moral headache, takin power just to keep it out of the hands of someone far more dastardly, while trying to prevent it's concentration and the related corruption, well, that one's a real bitch.
