I wonder if I can sneak a PS2 and a copy of Guitar Hero into our next equipment drop, I'm sure the kids would love it...
*snicker*

I got a nice visual of a bunch of Talitubbies being pounded into the ground by the audio assault of several Marshall stacks kickin out White Zombies Thunderkiss 65, a tune appropriate for Afghanistan in so many ways it ain't even funny.

Now you got me wondering... their comm security sucks, pysch warfare, hmmm.

Would be nice if they played some of the music. It sounded from what you coudl hear and what they said like it was american, but there's a pretty strong regional trend in modern music which is really quite distinct.

Careful with the PS2 idea, Frem. There might be some issues getting them into Afghanistan; apparently you can daisy-chain the processors together pretty easily and come up with a VERY powerful supercomputer.

I've heard a few of the metal bands coming out of Iraq recently; there have been a few shows on NPR about them. Can't remember their names, though. It didn't sound *bad*, it just sounded like kinda plain metal.

ETA: Ah-hah - found 'em. ACRASSICAUDA. Also, there's a film, "No One Knows About Persian Cats", which deals with musicians in Iraq, including metal bands and any kind of "subversive" music.

Isn't the best music always at least a little bit subversive?

PS3, Mike, you can daisychain the PS3. Someone broke into Wall Streets super-secure stock transaction system with that trick. Maybe we should be more worried about Indian Muslims giving them a hand.

Fairly sure you can do it with the PS2 as well, though. The PS3's cell processor is allegedly "hack proof", and Sony has offered rewards for anyone who can hack cheats for PS3 games. So far as I know, no one has succeeded. Yet. There are always ways...

Perhaps I recall incorrectly, but I thought it was the PS3

I'm not even sure it's anything unique to the PlayStation platforms, since the new cell processor is so different from the older PS2 processors. I think the key is more in the number of processors, rather than in the particular KIND of processors.

But I'm a Luddite on things like this, so that could be just whacky talk... :)

Still, there does come that unwarranted sense of "kewl" realizing that my li'l game console is coveted by the military for its processing power.

Mike

It's probably the bus speed, so it is somewhat connected to the platform. The game machine undoubted has a bus speed much closer to the processor speed, making it easier
