Well, she won in Nevada, tho' to consider it a "win" for the Republicans is kind of a joke. She was up against Sue "Chicken" Lowden--no great winner either, but Angle is just hysterical.

To start with, she's a Scientologist. Gulp.

--She wants prisoners to get massages, saunas and vitamins:
Quote:

In 2003, Angle arranged a trip to an Ensenada, Baja California prison which employed an organization with affiliations to Scientology and its founder L. Ron Hubbard, called the "Second Chance Program" Angle sponsored legislation aimed at placing this program in women's prisons in Nevada. Assembly Majority Leader Barbara Buckley stated that Nevada lawmakers should not go on the trip arranged by Angle. "At a time when our kids might be going without books and teachers it would be impossible to justify spending money on an unproven massage, sauna and vitamin plan for prisoners.

Seriously. Massages. There’s so much more it would take a book to cover all her “beliefs”:

--Angle is a member of the "Oath Keepers," the conservative group that advocates law enforcement and military types disobey orders they feel are unconstitutional. They warn members to resist some sort of nefarious plot that apparently exists -- who hatched it is unclear -- to create "giant concentration camps.

--She suggested she favors outlawing alcohol. This, in Nevada! In an interview with Liberty Watch magazine, Angle expressed her opposition to legalizing marijuana, and added: "I feel the same about legalizing alcohol. The effect on society is so great that I'm just not a real proponent of legalizing any drug or encouraging any drug abuse," Angle said. "I'm elected by the people to protect, and I think that law should protect."

--She thinks morality should be the legislature’s business: "Asked whether legislating morality is appropriate, she added: "I don't think you can get away from that; people just make value judgments. We're not a neutral society. Politics, especially, are not neutral and no one can come to the table value-less or moral-less."

--Her conversion to Scientology appears to have been political, not religious, in nature. After her recovery from a tumor was blocking her spinal fluid, a friend told Angle she had seen Deborah from the Bible in a dream about her, though she didn't know what it meant. Angle knew.

"Deborah was really the first woman politician," Angle says of the judge, prophetess and heroine of the Old Testament who inspired the longtime teacher to get into politics. “When you see God move in these kinds of ways, you see God is real," Angle says.

--At a time like this, she wants to Deregulate Big Oil:
Quote:

Angle said in a recent interview that the Gulf spill was an "accident" and opined that we need to further "deregulate" the oil industry in the wake of the disaster.

--Then there’s Angle's proposal of a bill that "would have required doctors to inform women seeking abortions about a controversial theory linking an increased risk of breast cancer with abortion." Angle is devoutly pro-life. But the abortion-causes-breast cancer theory is myth (spread, in part, to discourage abortions).

--Back on October 2009, Angle suggested pretty clearly that it is unacceptable and wrong for both parents to actually hold jobs simultaneously. Right now, we say in a traditional home one parent stays home with the children and the other provides the financial support for that family," she said. "That is the acceptable and right thing to do."

--Earlier in her career, she spoke out strongly against fluoride, the substance known alternately for improving dental health and as a Communist plot to undermine Western democracy. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported in April 1999 that the state assembly, of which Angle was a member, voted 26-16 for a bill that required fluoridation in two counties including the cities of Reno and Las Vegas. Angle was a strong opponent of the measure. While other opponents were against it for frinancial reasons, she “spoke out strongly against fluoride, the substance known alternately for improving dental health and as a Communist plot to undermine Western democracy.”

She believes that this time around, Republicans in Nevada are ready for her brand of right-wing politics. It seems the tea party movement agrees, at least according to the statement from Tea Party Express political director Bryan Shroyer this morning. "It a time when politicians of both parties have betrayed the people's trust, Sharron Angle is a rare gem," he said.

The GOP is distancing themselves from her as fast as they can run. “They always try to marginalize me, treat me like I don't exist," Angle complains of political analysts and mainstream Republicans even as the party shifts to the right in 2010. "They say, 'You're too conservative.' Was Thomas Jefferson too conservative? I'm tired of some people calling me wacky."

Harry Reid is no doubt turning cartwheels. I'm waiting to hear our RWAs rush to her defense. She truly is a whackjob, and gawd help Nevada if she wins!

Ooohhhh-kay... I'm probably going to lose allies and alienate people with this post, but what the hell...

What's wrong with her being a Scientologist? I mean, what's MORE wrong with her being THAT brand of religious whackjob, as opposed to being some other brand of religious whackjob (say, a Baptist or a Catholic, or - god forbid! - a Mormon)?

I mean sure, *I* think Scientology is a cult, a pyramid scheme, and a scam, but I think that about every organized religion. But only because it's true...

Next, what's the problem with trying out massage therapy on prisoners, or saunas, or vitamins and supplements? They point out that it's "new and unproven" - well, isn't EVERYTHING, until it's proven or disproven, and no longer new? Unproven is no reason not to try something new; it's a reason TO try it, to see if it has any measurable effect. That's not to say that we should coddle prisoners; that's just saying that what we're doing has pretty clearly been proven NOT to work. Maybe it's time to try a few innovative pilot programs.

Niki, I thought you were a fan of holistic healing. I'm a little disappointed you wouldn't condone such programs for prisoners. I figured that would be the one thing of hers you WOULD support. Hell, having prisoners keep and train and take care of service dogs in prison seemed like a batshit crazy idea, too - until it showed positive results, that is (positive for dogs AND prisoners, it should be noted).

Is it a Crazy Eddie idea? Sure as hell is. But as noted, we already know what DOESN'T work. What's the harm in trying something new and novel in a limited trial program?

Soldiers and police are SUPPOSED to refuse to carry out orders they feel are unconstitutional. I wish more of them would hold themselves to that standard. I've no doubt a few "oath keepers" (whether they belong to that organization or not) will lose their jobs in Arizona for not shaking down brown folk at quite a brisk enough pace.

In other words, she's a libertarian tea partier, except she doesn't party. I think maybe she moved to the wrong state. Utah's thataway!

And yes, I'm with you on this one; hers is just a flat-out moronic position to take, ESPECIALLY IN NEVADA!

Again, the "personal liberty" tea partiers should be running as far and as fast from her as their stumpy little legs can carry them. You can have your morals; you just can't impose them on ME. I thought that's what those so-called libertarians believed in. Guess not these particular tea baggers...

That's just a flat-out stupid thing to say, and an even stupider position to hold, especially in the midst of this BP disaster.

If she's got a theory, then she's doubtless got scientific data and studies to back up her claims, right? Right?

If not, she just has an unfounded guess.

So her husband is a domestic servant, yes? Surely he doesn't work, because that would be unacceptable and wrong, according to her.

Thomas Jefferson was a radical, a reactionary knee-jerk liberal.

Actually, I was hoping for more of a contest against Reid, a milquetoast of the highest order. It would not have hurt my feelings at all to see him ousted in November; sadly, that's very unlikely, given the opponent he now faces...

Some of her positions are wonky, some are a little bit refreshing, and some are just plain dumb. And the digging into her record has just begun, so expect more craziness to surface.

Fluoride in water actually is a bad idea, though it's less to do with a communist conspiracy, and more to being a dangerous and toxic scam from the fertilizer industry to get rid of excess fluoride shit.

There was a study from China I read (translated and published to a journal in English) where they looked at a bunch of kids from a fluoridated area versus a non-fluoridated area, with similiar socio-economic levels. The kids in the fluoridated area performed lower than the kids in the non-flouridated area on IQ tests.

There was also a study done by a bunch of EPA scientists that fluoride binds to fat cells in the brains of rats at about the same concentrations they put fluoride in drinking water at, and that humans are actually more susceptible to fluoride than rats are.

There's a union of EPA scientists complaining their administration covers up and alters scientific studies for political reasons, and fluoride studies are one of the big ones they complain about.

And it's also little known that most of the studies cited that suggested that there's a link between fluoride, stronger teeth, decreased cavities and decreased tooth decay were performed in the 1940s, with one of the later ones performed in the 1960s. Many of these studies suffer from poor sample size, small time frame, and were not replicated.

...As for the lady, she's crazy, and the legislating morality business annoys me, but on the other hand, at least she might be entertaining to have around just for being so batshit.

Hey, if all of us elect completely batshit people into office, you think the parties will run away from all of them?

Y'know, Anthony, that's kinda what I was thinking, too. I mean, it's really kind of pathetic that these fine men and women think we NEED a special organization to remind them to do what they're sworn to do already. I would hope they'd all have the honor and integrity to already know when to stand up and say "No, sir; this order I will not follow, because I can not, as it is against the Constitution of the United States of America, and I am sworn to uphold that Constitution."

Of course, when the former Commander In Chief is bragging about ordering the torture of prisoners, and saying he'd gladly do it again, one begins to wonder...

You mean Mr. Dys Functional's brain? (and it's EYE-gore, thank you) No, I think that one's already taken by Crappy. Gawd, I love that movie...a tour de force, unquestionably!

I have nothing against people with guns not being willing to act against the Constitution, but it's more than that from what I've read. It's ultra-right-wing, tho' they claim to be non-partisan, and pretty militia-oriented. They believe "The greatest threat we face today is not terrorists; it is our federal government… "One of the best and easiest solutions is to depend on local officials, especially the sheriff, to stand against federal intervention and federal criminality." They are described as concerned about a coming dictatorship, concentration camps and a 'New World Order', and they regard President Obama as an enemy of the state.

Among their oaths that I question are the following. I’m just posting the text of the first one as an example; the complete text and all the oaths can be found at http://oathkeepers.org/oath/2009/03/03/declaration-of-orders-we-will-n
ot-obey
/ Basically, they’re not as simple as they sound:

--We will NOT obey orders to disarm the American people.

The attempt to disarm the people on April 19, 1775 was the spark of open conflict in the American Revolution. That vile attempt was an act of war, and the American people fought back in justified, righteous self-defense of their natural rights. Any such order today would also be an act of war against the American people, and thus an act of treason. We will not make war on our own people, and we will not commit treason by obeying any such treasonous order. Nor will we assist, or support any such attempt to disarm the people by other government entities, either state or federal.

In addition, we affirm that the purpose of the Second Amendment is to preserve the military power of the people so that they will, in the last resort, have effective final recourse to arms and to the God of Hosts in the face of tyranny. Accordingly, we oppose any and all further infringements on the right of the people to keep and bear arms. In particular we oppose a renewal of the misnamed “assault-weapons” ban or the enactment of H.R. 45 (which would register and track gun owners like convicted pedophiles).

--We will NOT obey orders to impose martial law or a “state of emergency” on a state, or to enter with force into a state, without the express consent and invitation of that state’s legislature and governor.

--We will NOT obey any order to force American citizens into any form of detention camps under any pretext.

...and it ends with “And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually affirm our oath and pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor.”

While I think the basic precept is laudable, I have serious questions about the group itself, which appears to be, as I said, pretty militia oriented and very, VERY right wing. I know some here will disagree and also see the federal government and Obama as enemies, but I'm not one of them.

Oh, don't tempt me Crappy...I could SLATHER this place with photos of wingnut right-wing politicians if I wanted to take the time, but I'll let you waste yours that way...

Right now I'm getting increasingly angry with a number of political situations connected to the people who are currently in control of all branches of our govt., who, inspite of being in complete control, appear unable to do anything.

I guess I'd be tempted to support anything that wasn't straight line politics as usual at the moment. I've never been one to quickly judge and reject a political figure. I give Obama a lot more than just the old college try, not just because he's the president, but because I like the guy. But, as I said, and have said, every president gets 18 months for me. Obama would have to radically turn it around at this point...

As for what I think of as far right: Ron Paul. Maybe Pat Buchanan. Not all that scary.

They sound rational to me. I don't think the president is an enemy of the state, that all sheriffs can be trusted, and everyone knows I'm not a big second amendment fan, but these don't strike me as unreasonable postions. Any federal or executive overreach can be considered a breach of trust and a threat to american sovereignty, the second amendment is a founding principle of this country, and impositions and restrictions being imposed by the globalist power brokers is really somewhat scary, probably scarier than they realize. They sound like hard core constitutionalists, I'm not even sure they're necessarily far right, but I'd be glad to have them, from what it sounds like. They actually sound like reformers. I'd actually like to hear some of that kind of thought in the senate, or on the supreme court, and I say that realizing that these people are undoubtedly christians, possibly dominionists, and realize that I am emphatically not. But one seat to a voice like this would probably help.

Of course, what were really concerned about is what her views on water usage are. Its a funny game, politics. Her views on water usage can make or break the entire game. Unfortunately, people in nevada are liable to have irresponsible water use ideas, because they get their water from elsewhere.

ETA: No comments on water. I see that every single story k looked up ran a picture of Harry Reid. Its reminiscent of the last election, when they ran a picture of Hillary Clinton for every single presidential race story, including one that was only about Mike Huckabee. Anyway, the results are all about fluoridation. This is absurd. Lefty media needs more competition than just FOX.

To put things in perspective, her claim that fluoridation, which the Washington post couldn't spell, was that the fluoridating solute contained heavy metals. It's been argued many times that fluoride is used to mask metal content in water, and there have been no end of studies showing that it has no health benefit, and that children who drink fluoridated water show symptoms of heavy metal poisoning. I suspect the real story here will be like the chemical dispersants in the BP oil spill: toxic, and used to hide the problem, not fix it.

Hopefully she won't be as stupid as Rand Paul when some reporter drags something up from their closet and takes it out of context. A fresh tea party voice in the senate without a tinge of dynastic politics would be a good idea. I do have some serious reservations however about the club for growth. It's not, by itself, enough to make me oppose her.

If you want a target to attack, Niki, I'll give you one, free of charge. Carla Fiorina. I can't believe they actually nominated her. What is this, a suicide pact? Okay, so she's not a Tim Pawlenty, but she's pretty bad. At least the crazed pez collector made a fortune out of her insanity. Anyway, if the democrats lose to Fiorina, they might as well give up.

BYTEMITE

That's consistent. Symptoms of fluoride, especially the binding to fat-cells stuff, is very similar to the effects of mercury and bioaccumulation.

Fluorosis is not fun either.

Water rights... Anything anyone in Nevada passes involves stealing water from somewhere else. Especially if they represent freaking Las Vegas.

DREAMTROVE

On second thought, obama should contribute to her campaign. Harry Reid is the biggest liability Obama has in the senate, and part of why he isn't getting anything done. Reid stands for the Bush agenda, though he would never admit it. He corrals deem support for the war, the patriot act, etc. And all the while, ticking the hell out of random republicans, making it harder for Obama to reach across the aisle. A perfect opportunity to get rid of Reid.

She never claims it's a Communist plot. That phrase was written by Justin Elliot in this TPM article... http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/06/flashback-goper-angle-spoke

As for Angle's reasons, the same article states...
Quote:

Before the vote, Assemblywoman Sharron Angle, R-Reno, sought to postpone the vote so she could add an amendment to block fluoridation in Washoe County. The Washoe County Commission in 1992 rejected fluoridation, and Angle said the Legislature should not approve fluoridation in her county without a vote of its people. While another member of the Assembly suggested opponents of the measure were worried about the financial implications of fluoridation, the Review-Journal reported: "Angle said she simply does not like fluoride." Angle added she believed most fluoride used in water supplies could contain "lead, arsenic, [or] mercury."

So Angle was reflecting the will of her constituents.

Niki, I suspect that you get a good bit of stuff from, shall we say, anti-conservative sites. In just this one instance they have led you to two erroneous conclusions. Might I suggest you consider that the source might be a bit biased and vett the contents a bit prior to posting.
