I never considered the Tea Party anything other than some folks protesting Obama's policies, which is certainly ok. But as they've seemingly grown in numbers and political strength, I just cannot accept some of the questionable and immature rhetoric that comes out of their own mouths. They are just too explosive, while RNC Michael Steele is a sleeping sheep. Somewhere in the middle is where Republicans ought to be.

I agree wholeheartedly JS. I wasn't aware of the original Tea Party (prior to the on from '08 election on), except for a remark here and there--I wasn't paying that much attention to politics back then. But from what I've read here, it seems they had some good ideas and were (correct me if I'm wrong) pretty libertarian.

The current one...well, everything you said. I don't really think they're as much against Obama's POLICIES as they are against Obama himself...from what I hear them say on clips of rallies and speeches, the rhetoric is flammable and the actual PARTICIPANTS seem to be unable to verbalize what they want, just "not what we have".

And omigawsh, HOW I wish the Republican Party were somewhere in the middle of just about ANYTHING. I say it over and over: We need a VIABLE two-party system, not just one that wants to destroy the other, but one where both opposing views can debate and compromise to do what's right for the country and the people. I know; but I'm allowed to dream!
