Hello,

I think the prospect for the Republicans in upcoming elections will rest on their ability to provide inspirational candidates with distinct plans for improvement.

This is a particularly difficult challenge for them, and it will be interesting to see how they attempt to meet it. I continue to wonder who will rise to challenge the President in the next presidential election cycle, and on what platform they will stand.

In my area local elections, Republican platforms seem to center on fear (things I want to avoid), and Democrat platforms seem to center on desire (things I want to have.)

I wonder which will be the stronger motivator for the populace, and how this will translate into a big picture platform for both parties in two years.

2012 is too far away to even discuss now. The 2010 Mid Terms are 74 days away....that's what is important now.

I'm not seeing any Dems stand up and actually run on anything they've done, then again how can they?

Obamacare? : Dems are not campaigning on that "accomplishment"....57% of Americans want it repealed, and all Americans will never forget how low in the gutter the Dems went to shove it down our throats. I pray for Dems to run on that accomplishment!

Stimulus? : Obama wasted $ 1+ trillion tax dollars, and unemployment got much worse, gdp growth is worse...a total failure...Dems can't run on that either. But please do by all means!!!!!

Arizona Lawsuit? 65%-70% of all Americans support Arizona Law. Obama sued against the will of the people. Dems certainly can't run on that issue. But please do by all means!!!!!

Sheik Khalid Mohammed NYC Civil Trial?: 70% of all Americans oppose, no Democrat will campaign for it.

Oil Spill? 70% of all Americans thought Obama did a lousy job..Well Dems can't tout that one either.

And now, as the economy continues to get worse, and businesses are not hiring due to Obamacare cost fears, the arrogant Harvard Professor Arrogant Elitist Fool In Chief wants to RAISE our taxes! Hey, just shoot the economy point blank in the skull why dontcha! The clueless idiot President went to Nevada, which has the highest un-employement in the country, and actually tried to say how great everything was, and this would be the Summer of Recovery!!!LMAO!!!! Democrats are not going to campaign on the Economy, are they?? But please do!!

So all the so-called "accomplishments" of Obama/Pelsoi/Reid are SO in conflict and against the will of the American People that no Democrat candidate can run on them. All they have left is the same old Bush/Republican bashing. Then there's the great Democrat Leader Nancy Pelosi. How many Dems want to be associated with her in any way? But hey, please do!!!

Hello,

I think you are correct that the Democratic party has very little it can point to in the immediate election cycle as a major success.

On the other hand, I have seen no significant plans for improvement from their opposition.

My honest opinion is that the local elections will hinge on the issue of taxes. In tough economic times, people tend to vote for fiscal conservatives who will tend to slash budgets as opposed to raising taxes.

Unfortunately, with the tendency to create or raise government 'fees' as a disguise for 'taxes' I'm not sure who I can count on in my local elections to actually be fiscally conservative.

As a for instance, there is a plan to institute fees at parks here for anyone who brings a vehicle to the park. This would be almost fine and sensible if the fees went towards the maintenance and improvement of the parks. However, the fees are being raised to prop up other departments of government.

Normally, slashing police budgets is something we would see in tight financial times. However, due to the fear of over-the-border criminals in my area, the police department is relatively safe from budget cuts. Instead, it is the department of education that is cringing.

And so it comes to one side offering to raise taxes to support continued services, or the other side claiming to cut taxes and the education budget while offering fees as a sneaky supplantation for taxes.

Because of the buzz word 'taxes' and the fear lever of 'border crime' I expect Republicans to do well in the local elections. I hope at least one Libertarian gets elected somewhere, but I'm not holding my breath. It's very rough for me, because there are few viable candidates who are actually pushing something I want to buy.

I'm in agreement with you Anthony on many points, namely what are the Republicans bringing to the table other than their recent record of obstruction. On the other hand, with Obama approval going into the high 30's, and Democrat-led Congressional approval around 11% approval, maybe the Republicans only have to say they oppose ANYTHING from Obama/Pelosi/Reid in order to win everything.

Paul Ryan's Road Map is the only comprehensive plan I've seen to put America back on track. I'm afraid that it contains to may tough choices to be imbraced by most politicians. We will probably have to see the bankruptcy of medicare or social security before any real change will be taken seriously. http://www.roadmap.republicans.budget.house.gov/

Hello,

You know, as the election grows closer, I expect to see this more and more. Two guys standing on two pulpits. Each points to the other and says, "Well folks, I'm not THAT guy."

I think you can add Obama's statement on the nyc mosque, Afghanistan, his vacationitis, and Arizona...to Riverlove's list of things going against the Dems in 2010.

Now add to that the enthusiastic tea partiers and I believe it is going to be a blow-out for the conservatives.

And calling the Republicans obstructionists is a good thing. Think about who and what they are obstructing.

Take Missouri as an example. Do you know they had a higher voter turn out to smash Obamacare than in their last cycle which was highly competitive?

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

From what I've seen, the Dems position is pretty much "Do you want to go back to what we had?" and the Repubs position seems to be "Obama/Dems are destroying the country." Not much on either side.

The thing that's bothered me the most about the Repubs is their lack of anything to offer. Their answers seem to be the same as always: "Cut taxes, deregulate". Given what both have resulted in, and the fact that they've offered no NEW ideas, that leaves them pretty flat on the positive side, so negative works better.

The Dems haven't offered anything either, and it would be hard to run on their accomplishments because (leaving aside my own opinions) a lot of Americans don't (yet) like what they've done, if they ever will.

Then there's the fact that the Republicans have put up numerous candidates who are so far on the fringe that they will turn off a lot of independents, moderates and even some Republicans.

Counter that with the anti-incumbent fervor in the country, and one could cancel out the other, leaving it, as Anthony said, to local issues deciding each race individually.

Thus far, incumbents have won more than the "anti-incumbency sweep" predicted hasn't come true. Alternatively, the Tea Party has managed to put more people on the ballot than one would have reasonably expected.

So we shall have to wait and see. I expect no "clean sweep" as others do; every winning party loses seats in the next election, and it may turn out to be just as it has always been in that respect, and nothing more.

I suspect that at this point, the Republicans could offer no platform, or reduce their platform to a single syllable ("NO") and still kick the Democrats asses all over the contiguous United States. The act of voting is fundamentally emotional, not rational, and people will vent their frustration against the party in power.

In response to ads, these, on the other hand, aren't going to help the Republicans much:

I have no doubt the Repubs will try to tone down their more outrageous 2010 candidates, but, again, I'm not sure how they'll convince moderates that some of their more far-out candidates are worth voting for.

This musical number from the Byrds on Hullabaloo expresses my feelings towards the expected and desired departures of Reid & Pelosi and the rest of the Obamacare Democrats. Play it loud and enjoy!!

Someone preserve this, for when this critter comes back, edits it, and pretends they never said it in the first place when the GOP gets their clocks cleaned.

Remember what I said about when and how "elections" are really decided ?
