James is a funny and gracious fellow. He was the main guest at the one and only Con I've ever attended. He stayed way over time to ensure everyone got something signed. I thought that was lovely Though he did call me "weird and not in a good way" which was weird in itself because he seemed to mean it as a compliment. (I was entertaining people while we waited in line as well as bantering backwards and forwards with him and officials oh yeah and calming down the hysterical lady who was a bit overwhelmed by it all and shooting daggery looks at the mean chick I'd made cry earlier in the day because she'd said despicable things about the friend I was with who she didn't even know and others). Hope y'all get to meet/hear him speak sometime.

You ever had this feeling, like you jumped into a conversation at the exact wrong moment?

I feel like that ALL the TIME.

What? James Marsters did indeed bite me for a photo op. And he can still get that perfect 'Spike' look on his face while he does.

I have no idea what's happening here. See, my brain has quickly built a fortress of obtusity surrounding it's vulnerable imagination centers and meats, but it's cut off most of my higher functionality. I'm responding now only through rote memorization that I trained into myself under mysterious circumstances, as it's very likely I've also forgotten how to breathe.

Air make pretty colour.

He's also the recurring villain on the new Hawaii 5-O, so he has two new shows.

According to my dictionary, the form you are looking for is obtuseness. Obtusity is not a word. I must say, though, it's an excellent example of Buffy-speak.

That would be the possessive form, its.

So you know that scene in Serenity, when Kaylee starts talking about things that run on batteries? And Mal's reaction? And how it's supposed to be funny?

You're fine, I am fine with people having their pictures taken with their favourite actors, and asking them if they'll do a funny pose.

I'm being the annoying guy who pops up and says "kinky!" or "you don't hear that every day!" Then I tried to hint even more at the Just-Kidding-ness by doing a self-deprecation guy parody with an extreme unnecessary overreaction. Are you unfamiliar with geek to geek humour, where we tease each other for our unusual and quirky obsessions? Hey, I'm posting on a Firefly board. Interesting.

According to your dictionary, you are in fact wrong.

obtusity is one of my favourite words...it can be used to great effect when isnulting people...particularly ignorant people because they don't actually know what you're saying and any comebcak they have is usually unintentionally funny. e.g's from real life:
Me "oh please continue revelling in your obtusity bubble you intellectually undernourished troglodite!"
Victims Response "yeah! I am a rebel and that bothers you doesn't it?"
or "What is that fragrance you are wearing? it smells like...Oh I know it's eau d'obtusity...I didn't think you could get it any more...my bad". response " I'm wearing Calvin Klein thanks very much!"
I may sound mean but I am all too often surrounded by stupid people and have to keep myself amused somehow.

Yes, a word having an entry defining it as its proper form is certainly evidence enough for me. I withdraw the objection.

Acting like you've never heard anything so offensive is how you do this, now?
Considering you never, in any way, seemed to be actually poking any kind of fun and really just acted unreasonably squicked, while I am lamenting something that genuinely makes me sad, it's pretty funny that you would accuse me of missing the point.

I'm continuing this in PM, because this is derailing the point of what was supposed to be a Dragon Con related thread.

People, feel free to continue. Please step around the caution: flamethrower signs.

"lamenting something that genuinely makes me sad"

I missed this, and if I missed completely very obvious hints that you were not in any mood to play, then I'm sorry. My understanding was you were going to ask some actor to pretend to bite you for a photograph, which would make for a good photograph, fun. I've never seen Buffy, I have no idea who any of you are talking about, and I wasn't sure if you meant you were going to ask this James, or Sean. I assumed Sean, because that's who you talked about, and I understood he was still going to BE at DragonCon. If I'm mistaken here, I also apologize, but that was ignorance, not intentional.

James Marsters did not cancel Dragon*Con. There's 40,000 people here. Unfortunately, James Marsters is not one of them. *snort*

That's too bad. Maybe he just couldn't resist con overload - I know that he was at Wizard World Chicago two weeks ago, and Fan Expo last weekend, where his meet/greet/sig line was insane. (I didn't get to meet him in person, but I was at his guitar concert and his Q&A, he was great.)

America loves a winner!

Just wanted to update on how DC is being widely played up by the local media. Even the sports talk stations are giving it big props, amongst all the goings on in ATL this week. There was GA State U's first ever football game, as well as 2 college games in town on Saturday. I think NASCAR is also in town as well, for the entire weekend.... and yet all the radio stations were having their comments ( not all of it favorable, you can imagine )

I won't make it down there this time, unless I force my way down on Sunday...but it's good to see that DC is getting so much attention.
