According to AICN, David Simkins, hired to replace DG, has left after just 2 months on the job because of creative differences. It is suggested that AtS writer-producer Jeff Bell will be promoted to take his place as showrunner.

That was quick. I wonder what exactly were the creative differences? Or perhaps he was an outsider that simply didn't gel with tight Whedon team.

"Hercules" isn't too impressed with Simkins' credentials and, come to think of it, neither am I.

The internal promotion of a proven commodity such as Jeffrey Bell sounds much better.

I'd prefer to see Mere Smith get the slot. I think she's the best writer on what's left of the staff. But Bell must have seniority. Oh, well.

EDIT: Here's a zap2it link that also reports the Simkins exit. It contains a spoilerish comment on the AtS ep that Joss plans to write for November sweeps.

I'm not sure about that. In defense of Simkins he also had writer/producer credits on The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. and Louis and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman that a lot of people are think are at least somewhat successfull projects.

Also, JEffrey Bell's only producer experience was as a co-producer (basically the lowest level for a producer) for Angel last season. While I know he wrote some good Angel episodes (and some X-Files eps as well) he is going to be taking on a lot more duties in his role as exec. producer than he had as a co-producer. Him making that big a jump in responsibilty is a bit worrying (that is supposing that AICN is right on that bit of speculation).

Steve Deknight confirmed last night on the Beta Bronze that Jeff was taking over day-to-day ops.
