This isn't really surprising. Most of the geologists I know have been saying for YEARS that oil shale and gas shale aren't viable because of the content and pore space issues, coupled with the fact that they're harder to process than oil or gas from other material. If you think about the properties of the medium, it's pretty obvious. Then you intentionally try to disturb large scale areas of explosive and shockable gas in order to increase product... What do they think is going to happen? If the industry isn't aware of it and aren't doing all this on purpose or at the behest of some crazy agendas, then they have to be extremely stupid.
