Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney broke with many in his party on Friday when he said he believes humans have contributed to global warming.

"I believe the world is getting warmer, and I believe that humans have contributed to that," said at a New Hampshire town hall meeting, according to Reuters.

There is widespread consensus within the scientific community that the earth warming and that human beings are at least partially responsible. But many Republicans dispute that conclusion, including Oklahoma Sen. James Inhofe, the top Republican on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee.

Inhofe has suggested that global warming is a hoax that "started in the United Nations and the ones in the United States who really grab a hold of this is the Hollywood elite."

Romney reportedly said Friday that he believed the United States as well as foreign nations need to "reduce our emissions of pollutants and greenhouse gases," saying they "may be significant contributors" to climate change.

As Reuters notes, one of 2012 GOP Romney's rivals, former House speaker Newt Gingrich, said last week that the push to address climate change is "the newest excuse to take control of lives" by "left-wing intellectuals." Gingrich had previously suggested that "our country must take action on climate change."

Gingrich is not the only Republican presidential contender to shift on climate change issues. Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman said in 2007 that "it's time for Congress to act by capping greenhouse gas pollution," but he now says it isn't the time to address the issue. And former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty has backed off his previous support for cap-and-trade energy legislation, saying he had been wrong in once calling for a cap on carbon emissions.

Well hot damn; kudos to Romney for standing up for what he believes.

Much like Raptor here, Republicans seem to believe or disbelieve depending on who says it. There's also the fact that believing in global warming wouldn't be good for the industries who don't WANT us to believe it. Both of which contribute to the "disbelief" (or stance to that effect) of those whose interests coincide with big business, oil, etc.

That'll finish him with the teabaggers.

Pawlenty is also a believer. Gingrich even did a public-service announcement about it with - GASP! - Nancy Pelosi!

Of course, none of them want that brought up in front of their tea party paymasters, do they?

I could say something about him later claiming it wasn't intended to be a factual statement, or that anyone who quotes him is lying, but that would be unkind, wouldn't it? Besides, his constituency will probably forget before the election, he's probably counting on that. Oh, my, I'm being nasty today, time to get off and go out in the real world. I really DO admire him for having the guts to say it.

Rather, Mitt Romney's constituents are currently Massachusetts. What does Massachusetts believe?

Trust me, Romney is finished before he even started.
Just ask where the MONEY came from.

He's got enough skeletons in his closet for folk like me to cut him off from the support of most Mormons, without which his campaign is like a car missing two cylinders, it may make noise but it ain't really going anywhere much.

These just for starters.
http://reason.com/archives/2007/06/27/romney-torture-and-teens

http://www.guardian.co.uk/education/2003/jun/29/schools.uk1

Say what you will about Mormons, despite certain ongoing problems within their society they DO really treasure their kids - and that much of Romneys initial political bankroll came from the abuse and mistreatment of them isn't gonna go over well, neh ?

And that's the LEAST of the skellies in that bastards closet, so taking him seriously as a candidate is pointless.

Herman Cain, who doesn't know the Constitution from the Declaration of Independence.

Quote:

CAIN: We don’t need to rewrite the Constitution of the United States of America, we need to reread the Constitution and enforce the Constitution. … And I know that there are some people that are not going to do that, so for the benefit of those who are not going to read it because they don’t want us to go by the Constitution, there’s a little section in there that talks about “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”
You know, those ideals that we live by, we believe in, your parents believed in, they instilled in you. When you get to the part about “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness,” don’t stop there, keep reading. Cause that’s when it says “when any form of government becomes destructive of those ideals, it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it.” We’ve got some altering and some abolishing to do!

And why does he want to abolish America in the first place?

Oh well - at least he's in the right party for it.

"it is founding documents"?

Funny that you think Cain knows anything about this country's founding or its history. Obama actually was a constitutional scholar. Cain? Not so much. He has quite clearly shown that, and shown that he doesn't know what documents he's citing, nor what they say.

He's as much an idiot about American history as Bachmann and Palin.

Cain knows more, as I've said, than Obama, and it's not even close.

Obama, not so much.

But you are so clearly wrong, it's not even funny.

Herman Cain gave an entire speech about the Declaration of Independence, and REPEATEDLY referred to it as the Constitution, and claimed that we all need to re-read the Constitution, because all that stuff was in there.

Thing is, none of what he claims is true. It's not there. Wrong document, and he kept hammering on about it.

He's as stupid as Palin, at least.

Don't worry - I'm sure his followers (like you, for one) will go and edit the Constitution's page on Wiki to reflect Cain's woefully inadequate education about our history.

Given how Romney ran Bain Capital, basically a corporate raider seige engine bent on taking the good names of reputable companies and spending them into the ground by cutting corners, I can see what he would... Oh wait, we've already been doing that for at least three presidents.  As for Mike and Rap, they're gunning to waste more time than

That's what a ship is, you know - it's not just a keel and a hull and a deck and sails, that's what a ship needs.

Oh come now, don't tell me you ever even bought that in the first place...

No, but sometimes it's nice to see him come right out and show some of the newer members EXACTLY how dishonest he really is.

Sometimes you own the libs. Sometimes, the libs own you.

It's both surreal and sad that a candidate's siding with the scientific concensus is enough to virtually disqualify him from the nomination in 1 of the 2 major political parties... :-/

It's not personal. It's just war.

It's simply sad when you vilify a truly great American while backing the most inept, inexperienced and worthless pos man to hold the office of President since Jimmy Carter.

And no matter how much you hate Palin, she's right. Ring THAT bell.

Aaaaand, Raptor tries for the trigger once again. Fail. At least with me; I smile sadly at your vitriol and attempts to call me “racist” or whatever. It says everything about you, nothing about me.
Quote:

Now, you seem to be challenging Wulfie for the dumbest mutherfucker on the board prize.
I disagree. I think Wulf is usually more “ignorant” and “immature”, and I KNOW Raptor is here to get attention. I don’t think either one is “dumb” per se, just sad.

But they're not falsehoods, and no matter how much you cling to the lies and distortions, you can't change the facts.

All your juvenile name calling and petty insults only vindicate my position all that much more.

oh, dear, you ARE hysterical...or would be if you weren’t so damned predictable!

( And were I to lower myself to your level, I'd constantly bring up Obama's off teleprompter comments, the " 57 states " and such, but I'm better than that. )
Story, Mike, I THINK he’s being facetious (or I certainly HOPE so!)

Goddamn, Mikey - you're worse than my cat when she catches a fly, sometimes, and spends HALF AN HOUR chewing it, like just swallow the goddamn thing already!

Seriously, whatever point you intended to make, and yeah, I know-I know, yeesh... has been lost in this, and now you're just being an ass.

Give it a rest will ya, the drone isn't gonna own up, and beating on it might be in some way satisfying (and gee, who DOESN'T like a good curb-stomp now and then?) but yanno that runs out of gas after a while, damn.

How many times have I chided Mike just the same?

Not that it will get through (I sometimes think Mike has as empty a life as Raptor, given he keeps his back-and-forth idiocy up just as long and has no more substance when he does). I guess he enjoys it, but it triggers Raptor and just ends up being a playground battle for many posts. That’s okay,

Well, he SAYS he wants to "discuss" things in a rational manner, but if he can't even get past his own lies and irrational behavior, how does he ever expect to partake of a real discussion?
Bah, Mike, you KNOW Raptor has no desire whatsoever in actually COMMUNICATING, so that’s no excuse whatsoever. I see Frem has the same admonition. You enjoy baiting him, ‘fess up; that HAS to be the only reason, given how childish and silly your arguments get!

Storymark - Palin was and IS right. Much to the chagrin of the historians
That’s all you’re good for, Raptor, that and nothing else. Tho eventually kicks in.

Mike, you and he go at it for sooo long, and over such silly things, that I'm sorry, your excuse no longer works. Ever heard of "overkill"?
