Dozier will be closing at the end of the month, and good bloody riddance, it being one of the worst state-run hellcamps, a veritable pustule on the face of Florida, which along with Arkansas, Mississippi and North Carolina, rank among the worst in youth mistreatment - but even so, the nightmare of Dozier goes far beyond even the worst abuses of WWASPS.

Of course, fuckers like Romney and Dobson would just say "tough love", but everytime you rub the bullshit off, you find stories like this.

And piles of dead kids.

Quote:

Dozier has such a long and ugly history of violence and secrets that the governor last year ordered an investigation into the graveyard, to identify the dead and determine whether any crimes were committed. The state can now match names to the 31 crosses on the hill.

But those bodies may not be the only ones buried at Dozier. The St. Petersburg Times has interviewed three former inmates who say they unearthed bones in other parts of the campus. Another man who was in search of his uncle's grave in the early 1990s says a staffer at the school showed him two separate burial grounds.

And according to the school's records, at least 50 more boys who died here remain unaccounted for.

Of course, this is one of the few cases where such is being investigated at all - find any current or former hellcamp, draw a ten mile circle around it, and without fail, somewhere in there you'll find bodies.

Officially they're listed as runaway, escaped, or often - not listed at all, just... gone, without a trace, and no one much cares, National Center for Missing and Exploited Children flags them as /null (1), the police look the other way, and social services has enough on their plate trying to deal with the living, even badly as they do, and so, they become... forgotten.

YOUR State does this, YOUR tax dollars pay for it.
Perhaps you should have something to say about that.

(1) - This is why I don't respect NCMEC, when they *know* a "missing" kid is in fact dead, but due to circumstances it's never going to be investigated or prosecuted, they punch the data in and flag the file a /null so that while it remains on the books for the purposes of obtaining funding, it cannot be brought up or accessed by conventional means, to avoid certain inconvenient questions if someone does find remains later.
There *is* a way to get to those files, but I ain't sharing that, not till NCMEC faces a full investigation.

Also worth a read.

Their apparent exemption from both scrutiny and accountability is quite meaningful in that one of the questions no one dares ask is just how far they may have gone to bend politicians into increasing and continuing their funding.

I don't like "official" organisations or personnel wandering in the "grey area", it's not where they belong, and it can have devastating consequences.
