Hi all,

I have the feeling this has been discussed before, but Google searches (yes, plural) have yielded no results.

As I understand it, within the series there were more than one model used (I'm referring to digital models).

At least the model used in the Pilot and in Trash are different (don't flame me for not noticing this immediately, even though I have seen the series three times, and I wouldn't blame you), and the model in the BDM was different (although just slightly).

So what are the specifics of this, and are there any good pictures to compare the different models?

Thanks in advance.

To add to that:

In the episode "The Message" there were definitely two different models used.

When the ship pulls away from the airlock, it's roughly the same model as in the film, but when we see the ship just before the scene with Kaylee in the engine room (when she's listening to the recording, and Simon is about to walk in), you can see it's the model as seen on the DVD cover.

Really weird that they wouldn't use the same model consistently.

Since nobody has replied yet, I'm going to add another update.

I was startled to notice that even in the pilot they made use of both the model shown on the dvd box, as well as the more modern model on which the movie version is based.

I can understand using a lower quality model (less polygons) for shots from afar, but in this case, both models were used for close-up and far off alike.

It just doesn't make sense.

There are actually fairly significant differences between the television version and the movie version.

TV -

Movie -

The differences are mostly in the VTOL engines. A lot of it is simply more detail.

There was also a physical model used in the crash sequence at the end of the movie. It's not very accurate to the digital version.

I hadn't noticed different models in the tv show itself. I'll have to look closer at that.

IIRC there were at least a couple versions in the series. One was shorter and more squished together. The other was longer and I think it was the version used most often and sort of the defacto version used ever since.

DALEK!

One thing I noticed that in Serenity (Pilot) the ship had a box like section between the cargo bay and the aft engine section. You don't see that again in any of the other episodes. It also seems that the "more squished" version would fit the internals better.

The first one you posted was the one on the DVD cover, but there was another one in the series, which was used as a reference for the film version.

I want to know two things, essentially:

1. How do the three known models stack up (in detail, shape and stuff like that)

2. Why did Zoic use two clearly different looking models in the series?

1 shouldn't really be a problem, but 2, the more interesting of the two, might be a problem.

Any way, I hope someday we will know.

If you look very carefully, you'll see that even in the pilot they used two models.
