"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)
Quote:WASHINGTON -- At some point this weekend, whether on a stage in South Carolina or Iowa, Texas Gov. Rick Perry is expected step up to a microphone, put an end to months of media speculation and formally announce his bid for the presidency. But in doing so, Perry would be violating the spirit of an amendment he proposed to the Texas constitution in 1989. Filed that March, the amendment called for "the automatic resignation from office of certain public officials seeking other elective office." In other words, the 1989 version of Perry would probably think Gov. Perry should resign from office before hopping on that plane to South Carolina. Perry's amendment did not equivocate: "The candidacy constitutes an automatic resignation of the office then held, and the vacancy created shall be filled pursuant to law in the same manner as other vacancies for the office are filled." The forced resignation would kick in for anyone holding elected office that paid $10,000 or more per year. Gov. Perry certainly falls into that category.

The 'automatic resignation' only applies if the person files for another office within the time between election to their position and the first 180 days of their term of office. Perry was sworn in on Jan 18, 2011 for his third term, so the 180 days has passed. "Keep the Shiny side up"

Quote:Originally posted by Hero: He didn't ask anyone to resign back then or now. He proposed a change in the law that both did not pass and would not apply in this situation.

You'll find that the vast majority of those serving in Iraq and Afghanistan are Republicans. And Republicans are not against all public services, but we'd be happy to not use the ones we don't get taxed for and agree we don't need. H "Hero. I have come to respect you."
