WASHINGTON (AP) -- Employers added no jobs in August -- an alarming setback for the economy that renewed fears of another recession and raised pressure on Washington to end the hiring standstill.

Worries flared Friday after release of the worst jobs report since September 2010. Total payrolls were unchanged, the first time since 1945 that the government reported a net job change of zero. The unemployment rate stayed at 9.1 percent.

The stock market plunged in response. The Dow Jones industrial average fell 253 points, or more than 2 percent, in mid-afternoon trading.

Analysts say the economy cannot continue to expand unless hiring picks up. In the first six months of 2011, growth was measured at an annual rate of 0.7 percent.

So nine months in, the Tea Party's "Jobs! Jobs! Jobs!" campaign rhetoric has turned into exactly no jobs?

I'm shocked. I was sure they'd have this all fixed by now.

Speaker Boehner, where are the jobs?!

Obama had 2 years with both Houses under veto proof control, and instead of dealing w/ the jobs issue, he went for the philosophical, partisan dream of O-care. This is 100% his doing, and no childish rants about the TEA Party ( which only makes up a small fraction of the GOP ) can divert blame away from where it belongs.

But Boehner was all "Jobs! Jobs! Jobs!" - where'd that go? And according to you, he controls Congress.

He's had nearly a year, and he hasn't done a single thing about jobs. Seems disingenuous to try to put 100% of it on Obama, when you also claim that Boehner controls an entire branch of the government.

By the way, the previous President had more than 6 years of a GOP-led Congress, and we saw unemployment nearly double under his "leadership", while Rappy here claimed that the economy was "on fire".

If the current economic situation is "100%" Obama's doing, then isn't that an outright admission that unemployment going from 4.2% under Clinton to over 8% under Bush was 100% Bush's fault, as well as the accompanying economic collapse?

9.2 % unemployment > 5% unemployment.

The near 'doubling' of the unemployment #'s didn't start until the Dems took control of the House. after the '06 election.

Give the GOP the WH in '12, and we'll be back in business.

Who controls the House now?

If, as you say, the Dems being in control of the House after the '06 election was the cause of the near-doubling of unemployment numbers under Bush, then by logical extension, the GOP controlling the House now means that today's unemployment numbers AREN'T "100%" Obama's.

In fact, since you imply that the Dem-controlled House was solely responsible after '06, and since you earlier claimed that the Speaker of the House controls the entire Congress and thus the entire Legislative Branch of the U.S. government, then you would seem to be admitting that the current GOP/Tea Party-controlled House is solely responsible to today's economic climate.

This sounds almost like a ransom demand or a threat. It comes across like a tacit admission that the GOP is holding the nation hostage, and won't allow anything to happen on the jobs and economic front unless their demands are met.

While deplorable and indicative of a deep hatred of your country and your fellow Americans, I suppose it's at least somewhat refreshing to hear you finally admit your agenda so honestly.

Yes, the GOP's agenda is to save this country, create more free market jobs, and turn the economy around.

I can see how that might feel threatening to a big govt, socialist loving simpleton like yourself, but too bad.

But what really has me miffed is that no one commented on my clever use of an Animal House video clip. I mean, who doesn't love Animal House ?

Sheesh.

Well, I can see why you'd be so eager to discuss Animal House rather than address the point I raised, but I'll repeat it in case you missed it:

And I can see why you're so eager to run away from Obama's miserable jobs record, given he said the exact same thing LAST year as he said THIS year, and yet he's done exactly nothing.

Spin all you want, but your partisan talking points are falling on deaf ears. America has grown tired of Obama's teleprompter routine.

He's an empty suit, lacking in any real world ideas.
