Days after the UN general assembly where the hot topic was a potentially free Palestinian state, President Obama is touring the country giving speeches about the 'Buffett tax' intended to increase tax rates for millionaires.
In a speech on Saturday, the President embarrassingly got the two issues mixed-up.

Instead of referring to the low tax rate of janitors, Mr Obama said that it was a mistake to have billionaires pay the same tax rate as Jews.

'If asking a billionaire to pay the same tax rate as a Jew, as a janitor, makes me a warrior for the working class, I wear that with a badge of honour. I have no problem with that. It's about time,' he said.

Named after billionaire Warren Buffett, the new tax that President Obama is promoting would put a higher tax rate on the salaries of Americans earning more than $1million annually.

The speech was given at the Caucus' Foundation Annual Phoenix Awards in Washington DC and first lady Michele Obama attended as well.

Among guests at the event included pop singer Lady Gaga who paid $35,800 for a seat at the exclusive event.

The singer did not perform at the event attended by around 75 guests, but thanked the President for what he has accomplished and asked a question during a Q&A.

Obama re-election faces "Titanic struggle"

Obama told 'you wouldn't treat Jews like this' as he orders black caucus to 'stop complaining'

Representative Maxine Waters of California claimed Mr Obama "never would say that" to Hispanic, gay or Jewish groups.

She took umbrage at Mr Obama's fiery weekend speech in which he told black members of Congress: "I expect all of you to march with me and press on. Take off your bedroom slippers, put on your marching shoes.

"Shake it off. Stop complaining, stop grumbling, stop crying. We are going to press on. We've got work to do, CBC."

Mrs Waters, a former CBC chairman, told CBS News that she found the comments "a bit curious" and "not appropriate". She said that she was "not sure exactly who the president was talking to" when he made the speech.

"The president spoke to the Hispanic Caucus – he certainly didn't tell them to stop complaining," she said.

"And he never would say that to the gay and lesbian community who really pushed him on 'don't ask don't tell'. Or even in a speech to AIPAC [American-Israel Public Affairs Committee], he would never say to the Jewish community 'stop complaining about Israel'."

Although Mr Obama's newly combative rhetoric and demeanour in recent days has won praise from many liberal groups, his words on Saturday ran the risk of alienating a key group. Blacks voted overwhelmingly for Mr Obama in 2008 and turned out in record numbers.

Democratic strategists doubt that many black voters would switch to Republicans in 2012 but fear that they could stay at home, imperilling Mr Obama's re-election chances.

Mrs Waters's comments came as David Axelrod, Mr Obama's chief campaign strategist, warned that the president faced a "titanic struggle" to cling onto the White House next year.

How is it that anyone misspeaks in saying ' jew ' for 'janitor' ?

Funny, as he had just said 'billionaires', it seems to me that he mentally associates jews and billionaires as being one in the same. Wonder what sort of discussions he has, when out of the public eyes, when talking about 'jews'.

Jew janitors ? I'm guessing there are some, but not what comes to mind with MOST folks.

It's stupid...was a half-second slip of the tongue, which crazies like PN and idiots on the right grabbed with both hands, drooling, and posted all over the web as proof of...something. It's childish and assinine--if we dug up every slip of the tongue people make (especially remembering Dubya!), we could make anything we wanted out of it. I watched the video--of COURSE PN grabbed and ran with it, but that doesn't make it relevant. But hey, it works for them!

Slipping 'Jew' for 'Janitor'?

Could be, but it's still curious. I've heard it several times, and he does catch himself, after saying ' Jew ... '. It's as if he was going to add something else to that word too... , Jew ' something'.

But, I guess if you want to equate Obama's oratory skills to those of W, as if that's some sort of explanation.... knock yourself out.

How am I suppose to prove to you that I've heard the clip several times ?

The right likes to ignore W's unintelligibility?

Really? Where's your evidence for THAT ? It was extremely well documented that most, if not all Republicans were overly aware that W had weak public speaking skills. It was CONSTANTLY brought up by the MSM. Hell, it was almost routinely parodied on SNL. How is it that you can possibly say that any one ignored it ?

Weird.

This is a fine example of your LACK of reading comprehension.

I never said that I heard Obama say such on many occasions, but weird that you took it that way. I guess you've just conditioned yourself to expect the worse possible outcome, regardless of the facts.

That'd be a example of prejudice, on your part.

8 years of documentation out there, as well as the aforementioned SNL skits by Will Ferrell.

The news that W spoke poorly in public was not some well kept secret.

Obama ? He's made his living and reputation off of speaking well in public. Of course, he has little else to show on his resume', but the guy sure can speak well. ( Except when he goes off teleprompter )

Well, yes. Because that literally IS what is happening. Neither the person or the words change, no matter how many times you replay the clip.

Crazy how that happens, huh?

Only in your twisted, petty , little minds could you come up with the nonsensical claim that I said I had heard Obama say this on many different occasions.

You're making shit up, completely out of thin air, because you know, deep in your peanut sized heart, you have nothing, Fear, false pride and irrational hatred fuels you to respond with such inanities.

Might I suggest you seek professional help? Seems some of y'all need it.

Well, I agree that Story is no one, but he did claim I said exactly that.

I didn't " make " it sound like any such thing. Niki just misunderstood, ( or distorted ) what I said. Storybook, having such a do-nothing job which allows him to play on the internet all day, and having no real input to add to the thread, decided to toss in a mindless snark, based on a completely false premise, over something I never said, implied, suggested or promoted.

My gawd you're pathetic, Raptor. You spend so much time here, it's like you LIVE here...post after post after post about the same thing, nitpicking and calling everyone else names. Must reeeely suck to be you!

You wrote
Quote:

I've heard it several times
It's perfectly normal that someone could take that to mean "I've heard him say it several times"--as in several different occasions, okay? Are you still with me? Which is why I asked you to prove it, because it would have made the news more if he'd done it more than once.

Had me laughing, reading all your blather...you really do go on, don't you? You can knock Story's job, but what's YOUR excuse for hanging out here all day, putting up more posts than probably anyone else, certainly more posts with nothing to say? Pot calling kettle...something...

Funnier that you took Story's crack
Quote:

to mean...I'm not sure what. But even FUNNIER, perhaps funniest of all, is that you admit to playing the clip over and over. That's incredibly amusing to imagine, and speaks so clearly to your obsession, I couldn't help smiling.

So you had to clarify what you'd written by striking out at everyone, calling them names, and insinuating that I "distorted" what you wrote...which is damned silly, since it's right there in "white and black" (as it were). Let's see, because you said you'd heard what Obama said several times (that still makes me giggle), you came roaring back,

equating that to poor reading skills,
claiming it was prejudice,
snarking at Obama,
claiming my misunderstanding was the result of "twisted, petty , little minds",
snarking at Story, his job
repeating in four different ways "something I never said, implied, suggested or promoted".

Holy shit: defensive much? I can't figure out whether you're defensive, paranoid, in love with overblown rhetoric, or just like to see what you type. Either way, it's sure silly. (Oh, my, I should find something far more offensive and verbose than just "silly", shouldn't I, just to keep up with you...)

and oh, the best one: this about a misunderstanding of a sentence:
Quote:

You're making shit up, completely out of thin air, because you know, deep in your peanut sized heart, you have nothing, Fear, false pride and irrational hatred fuels you to respond with such inanities.
Damn, you sure can get carried away!
The point Nick made was "why not just clearify what you said, and move on?" I guess you missed the "move on" part...I'm glad you had fun tearing into everyone for three verbose posts about a minor misunderstanding.

Y'know, given the "How am I suppose to prove to you that I've heard the clip several times ?", I think I'll vote for "incredibly paranoid". Wonder if we're getting to you or something?

Oh, wait, I know; here comes your response--something (with a lot of adjectives and snarks) about my verbosity in this post. Yeah, but I'm having FUN!

On that other issue, let's see if you can follow: If you truly believe that "the right likes to forget Dubya's unintelligibility" is wrong, then show us some examples of those on the right TALKING or WRITING about his incoherence. See? Sure, it's documented. Sure, they couldn't help but be aware of it. But Republicans weren't given to mentioning it much; in other words, they'd like to forget it--which is what I wrote. Can you follow that reasoning? It's not about whether his incoherent utterances were documented or not, okay? It's about Republicans not wanting to talk or write about it...that they'd be happier if it were forgotten. Get it?

Okay, I've had my fun...on to more constructive things. Check that, on to constructive things. Impossible to be "more" when there was none in the first place. (Watch him go bonkers on this one, anyone wanna bet on the number of pejorative adjectives he can come up with?)

Niki - you're wrong.

If I had MEANT that I heard him say it on several different occasions, I'd have said exactly that.

I never said it, I never implied it. It was played on the radio, and replayed, several times, so I did in fact hear him say it, several times.

You just have a fundamental flaw in understanding what folks say is what they MEAN. It's logic, something which constantly seems to escape you.

If anyone took the time to even ASK, before driving off road and into the lost frontier of inanities, this likely would have been all averted.

One thing folks here seem to excel at, is making the simple into the most excruciatingly, needlessly difficult.

My gawd, you poor fool, you just don't get it, do you? I'll try one last time, and be as clear as I possibly can.

You wrote: "I've heard it several times". I thought that meant you'd heard it several DIFFERENT times, which surprised me because I'd never heard it mentioned before now. So I said "hogwash" if you couldn't prove it.

YOU misunderstood ME to think I was saying "prove you heard (the same clip) several times", and asked "How am I suppose to prove to you that I've heard the clip several times?"

Now understanding, I WROTE "Ah, you heard the ONE clip...sounded like you said he'd done it more than once."

Are you starting to catch up...or is this whole thing another gambit to keep me on the hook and get attention? I can't tell, because it's very simple to the rest of us. But you seem determined to stretch this out and make someone...me?...Story?...all of us? the bad guy(s).

It was a simple misunderstanding on both our parts. I thought you were saying "I heard it several (different) times." You thought I was saying "Prove you heard (the same clip) several times."

See? We both misunderstood one another...it's just that simple. No lies, no evil intent, no deliberate--what was it you said..."distortion"--no poor reading skills, prejudice, twisted, petty, little minds, no making shit up, out of thin air or otherwise, none of the things you accuse everyone of. I should think you'd feel a bit silly, all that furor over a small misunderstanding on BOTH our parts, but that's the sum total off all this anger and meanness:

We had a glitch in communication, that's all.

Nobody "drove off the road", and you could have asked ME before jumping to the conclusion I was lying about what you said, or all the rest. The MINUTE I understood you were saying you'd heard the same clip several times, it was over for me, I didn't bother you further. Ergo, your argument is with OTHERS, and you save keep all the name calling for them. Seriously, "You just have a fundamental flaw in understanding what folks say is what they MEAN. It's logic, something which constantly seems to escape you." ??? Jezus, you've never misunderstood what somene on the internet wrote, of course not. That's...ach, why bother, you'll never admit it was a simple mistake on both our parts or credit me with a brain or apologize for going overboard (gawd forbid, right?) or anything. Silly me.

So can we, please, do as asked and just move ON now? Or do you have a lot more nasty things to say that you've just gotta get off your chest? If so, be my guest; I came back to see if you understood the mistake. Obviously you didn't; I hope you do now, and I don't think you're a liar, twisted, petty, prejudice, or any of the other things you're convinced we are/I am. Now I'm gone for the day.
