Hello,

Quote:

6. Teachers' Classroom Materials

It's something nearly all educators do these days -- buying classroom supplies and paying for them out of their own pockets. For years, K-12 teachers, instructors, counselors, principals or aides who worked in a school for at least 900 hours during a school year could claim an "above the line" deduction for up to $250 of expenses incurred for books, supplies, computer equipment or supplementary materials used in the classroom. Shop now, teachers: Starting next year, that deduction will disappear like kids vanishing from the classroom when the bell rings.

I find this one lamentable in particular, because I have witnessed with my own eyes just how much teachers spend to supplement school materials.

My nephew's class all had to buy large amounts of school supplies to be shared among all the kids because the budget doesn't cover them anymore in his little city. So parents are paying for it now it seems.

The payroll tax cut was presented, and sold, as a 1 time tax " holiday ", meant to help out Americans in a time of need.

Holidays end.

The Bush tax cuts, in contrast, were originally intended to be permanent. Only because the Democrats wouldn't negotiate in good faith unless a bargain was offered, was there a limit set on how long these tax cuts would last, with the understanding that their status would be voted on at a later date.

So, when any Democrat tries to sell the line that the GOP wants to raise your taxes, on this particular matter, at least, the Democrats are lying.

The GOP *does* want to raise your taxes. They have the chance to keep them lower, and they're refusing. Ergo, they are raising your taxes.

The Bush tax cuts were set to expire, too, but we were told that you can't raise taxes in a recession.

Seems you CAN, just as long as it's not on the rich, according to the GOP.

Oh, no, they don't. They want *democrats* to raise your taxes, and then they want to be able to spend the money without getting blamed for it.

Ayep, I'm still SORELY pissed over them submitting a fake budget and causing total chaos and a showdown-to-shutdown, with what amounted to a blatant lies, to force Gov Granholm to submit some really unpopular tax increases to make up for a non-existent shortfall when in fact we were running surplus, and when this was discovered and the Gov tried to cut motor fuel taxes as an across the board relief, which was a damn smart idea since it affects everything from your own bill at the pump to the groceries at the store which come with added transportation costs...

The same lying bastards blockaded it and looted the extra money for pork, the fucks.
Half a pence of blame on Jenny for that, too - since as a politician she shoulda KNOWN better than to expect GOP shills to actually do their fucking job instead of destroying everything around them in a petty temper fit cause they're not in charge - me, I'd have cut them out of the loop entire and kept em there.

Oh, and in regards to school supplies, well....
I was a less moral fellow in my youth and not only willing to stand in and keep projectors, reel and overhead, operational, as well as other equipment - I was also in the habit of "finding" extra supplies in the storage room which didn't happen to be there when anyone ELSE looked.

You just like to ignore what anyone says, and just keep on yapping away, huh?

This is beyond lunacy and reckless on the part of the Democrats. SSI, which is already a worthless, dying ponzi scheme, has taken a hit from what's being 'contributed' into it, with this tax cut. This will only hasten the collapse of Social security, while the Dems blatantly lie to the American public, and say " all is well, remain calm ". The hell it is, but that's exactly what the Dems said about the housing market and Freddie / Fannie, for YEARS, before it all collapsed.

Same song, differnt verse.

Well said and on point, DT...I hadn't thought of it that way, but it's obvious when you think about it. Accurate for both parties over time, actually.

I won't go into the usual bullshit of which party taxes or spends more; given the last decade, it should be clear to any not blinded by partisan jihad that both do both. AND hope people's memories are short enough to forget what the last administration did, so they can blame it on the current one. Seems to have worked wonderfully recently, and no doubt worked just as well for the Dems in times past.

MY first thought was "oh, gawd, here we go again..." and wondering how much of a mess it will be, with everyone focused on it and paying attention to nothing else, pundits disecting it endlessly, and on and on.

Pffft.

Well, I feel free to ignore what YOU say, because (1) you've got a history of lying and making shit up out of thin air, and (2) you can't ever be bothered to produce any substantiating evidence.

You've made allegations here that you completely fail to back up. Nothing new there, of course - it's what you do.

You can claim that the Bush tax cuts were intended to be forever, but that isn't how they went into effect. They had a specific expiration date. It was extended, and the payroll tax rate reduction could be extended the same way, except that the GOP cares far more about kowtowing to the rich then they've ever cared about the working class.

This is where you lost me. You claim it's a "ponzi scheme", but then suggest that it SHOULDN'T have its funding cut. If it's a Ponzi scheme, you should want it gone, dead, today if not sooner. You should applaud cutting the payroll taxes; in fact, you should hope they're cut to zero, and right now!

Meanwhile, we've all been told time and again (often by you) that tax cuts don't have to pay for themselves. But now we're told THESE tax cuts do indeed have to pay for themselves.

There's a lot of flip-flopping from the right on this issue, it seems.

As for myself, I don't support cutting payroll tax rates unless the cap is raised as well. See, I *do* think tax cuts should be paid for, especially when those tax cuts are actually cutting the revenue of the Social Security system.

Hello,

I would personally be happy to see the program ended and all monies returned to those who have invested. As government has repeatedly 'borrowed' from the piggy bank, they can simply put money back to cover shortfalls and eliminate the program entire. Perhaps they will need to end a war or two, or close a dozen military bases on foreign soil in order to find the money they need. That's okay. Just give me back everything I put in, and we'll call it even.

Hello,

That would be nice, because otherwise you lose money for inflation.

But I'd even be willing to take the hit.

I have no confidence in the government being there for me. I'd like to take my money and make what use I may for myself.
