I know this reminiscing of favorite old episodes may be getting old to some. But hey, I can't get enough of it. So, here goes:

I've narrowed some of the most shocking scenes from Angel down to three groups: Hi-larious! (shockingly funny), Oh My God! (shockingly dramatic or vicious), and What The FK!? (shockingly 'what were they thinking'). Here they go.

Hi-larious!-"She", Season 1. The Angel dance scene. I almost pissed myself when I saw this for the first time. I still laugh out loud about it when it crosses my mind.

Oh My God!-"Forgiving", Season 3. The scene where Angel SSNNNAPS on Wes for stealing Conner. It comes out of nowhere and it's Angel totally losing his cool. Even Angelus never did that. I didn't see this until I got the DVD set and it was four in the morning after watching the whole season from the beginning. I was floored. I watched that scene at least four more times before moving on to the next episode.

What The FK!?-"Apocolypse.." I'm not sure on the title, Season 4. The Cordy/Conner sex scene. I was kinda, OK really, disgusted when I saw this. One; this was the first episode of the season I saw after getting my cable reinstalled so I was totally lost, and Two; Cordy and freakin' Conner getting it on!? Damn.

I realize there's tons more of these in the series, but these were the three that I felt were at the peak of such a categorization. If you haven't seen them in a while, take a load off and go back over them again. Enjoy!

I'm not sure if this counts as "Oh my god!" or "What the FK", but the last scene of Reunion, (middle of 2nd season, when Angel fires Cordy, Wes & Gunn) beats either of your suggestions in my book. I immediately called a friend one time zone over, who answered the phone, "Joss Whedon is an evil evil man."

Oh My God!
My original fav was the Angel about to smother Wes moment, but as it was already taken I chose this as my second fav. (Reunion)
Quote:

Angel: "You set things in motion, play your little games up here in your glass and chrome tower, and people die - innocent people."
Holland: "And yet I just can't seem to care.
Angel upon finding Darla and Dru in the bomb/wine celler ready to feed on its patrons:
Holland: "Angel - please. - People are going to die."
Angel: "And yet, somehow, I just can't seem to care." Angel closes and locks the doors.

I loved this prelude to his dark Angel period which made him all the more evil and interesting to me since he still had a soul.

Hi-larius (Smile Time)
Quote:

PUPPET ANGEL: What are you people looking at?
SPIKE: They're looking at the wee, little puppet man.

I can't stop myself from smiling just thinking about it.

I guess this would qualify as the what the
This one was really hard for me as I don't believe anything beats the Cordy/Connor But I wanted to pick something different, so my very distant second choice is: (Shiny Happy People)

Gina Torres takes over the world. Its not that I disliked Gina in this part, but that I disliked the story line as a whole. I enjoyed the fourth season up to this point (minus the afore mentioned

Perhaps I'm a twisted, twisted girl, but that is one of my top Angel moments. It really was just so "NO.....WAY!" and I just giggled in glee for days.

Here's two more --

When Justine cut Wes's throat. I was half-watching and half-doing homework, and I happened to look up just as she grabbed him and I literally shrieked at the TV, "Holy BLEEP!!!" and I kept yelling at the TV for the little bit that was left of the episode.

And really, everyone completely shunning Wes was a season-long freak out for me, especially when he hooked up with Lilah. Now that I think about it, though, my #3 may be finding out that Wes had Justine locked in a closet on a boat for an entire summer. Holy If someone had predicted that season one Wes would grow a pair that big, I'd've called them the biggest moron to ever walk.

"We're just happy to be doin' good works."

For Oh My God!

I came up out of my seat when the cyborg impersonating Wesley's father moved toward Fred and Wesley rapidly put nine shots into the man he thought was his father. Wesley was on shot number seven before I quickly replayed the series of events in my head and realized what he had done.

I hope you like Guinness, sir. I find it a refreshing substitute for . . . food.

Oh yeah. How could I have forgotten that one? The whole sequence blew me away: Wes's immediate action, the vomiting, the realization that his father was sparking...

Off thread topic. I recently re-watched 4th season. Up until now I really enjoyed the 4th season but like you thought the Jasmine story line dragged on a bit. However, this time around the whole thing came together and made more sense to me, especially when I look at the Jasmine arc as a metaphor for the religious right fanatics. It made total sense to me when I looked at the story arc from that perspective. Anyone have thoughts on that topic?

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Strangely enough, I too have been rewatching those episodes as they are currently at that point on TNT, and found myself enjoying them a lot more. It still is my least favorite, but I have a different persepective now as you did, the allegoric use of storyline to question extremist organized religion was beautifully done, which I somehow missed the first time around. THe quote below was probably the point that I really got it -

FRED: Now that she's here, everything just... seems so easy.
ANGEL: I know. Feels like a dream.
FRED: Mm-hmm. But have you noticed how we all just kinda do what she says, don't ask questions?
ANGEL: Isn't it a relief? Constant questioning—it's finally over.

You know, I often find these types of allegoric story line parallels upon multiple watchings, perhaps I will start a thread based on this idea.

okay heres mine...

Hi-larious!: besides the dancing in 'she' it has to be 'spin the bottle' the whole wesley retractable sword part heh heh heh kills me every time.

Oh My God!: "you are my sunshine my only sunshine" the song fred sings in 'a hole in the the world' just before the virus kicks in.its just the look on lornes face when he reads her, fred coughing up the blood i was so taken aback, typical whedon lure you into a false sense of security then take it away in one fell swoop.

What The Fk!: well besides cordelia not being a part of season 5, it has to be hands down cordy lip locking with the beast 'give momma some sugar' i'm sure i saw tounge....eugh my spine just detached itself and crawled away at the thought of it. eugh.
