I have a pack of Marlboro Cigs signed by William. He came and spoke to a crowd locally years back. He's a brilliant speaker. Very entertaining.

What a great actor Mr. Davis is.

I've never seen anything else he was in, but I recently watched the entire run of the X-Files for the first time, and whether you loved him or hated him the best episodes (in my book) were the major plotline episodes when he was on the show.

As only a master at his/her craft can make you do, I often found my emotional hatred or love for his character swinging back and forth like a pendulum throughout the series!,

What a treat when he was the only "cameo" appearance in the final episode that wasn't dead and a figment of Fox's imagination!!!!!!

In the end, if what he said in his final dialogue to Fox was true... what a truly sadistic bastard Cancer Man was.

I wonder if he weighs in on the fact that his book is coming out in 2012 and well, yanno....

Here's hoping for the 3rd X-Files film this year, when it's still relevant.

I'm going to definitely try to be there for the chat. I'm not usually the type that gets all excited about celebrity meet and greets, but WBD is awesome!

Thanks for the info.

Wow!

That sounds really cool man, thanks.

Is this going to be recorded and available for download afterward?

I almost wish I could re-watch all of the pertinent episodes from the entire series before the meet to refresh any questions I'd have.

But it's been like 10 years since he did the show, so he'd probably know less about it than I do since I just finished X-Files about 4 months ago lol.

I can't believe I don't remember him from anything else. I watched a lot of the late 90's-2000's version of "The Outer Limits". Maybe that's why he was familiar looking when I watched X-Files.

I've watched a quite a bit of Human Target too, which was an awesome show, but I lost interest when I found out it was canceled prematurely, so I didn't see the ep he guest starred in.

Everything else he's done is not stuff I would normally watch, except for "Caprica" which I haven't yet looked at since I heard it was also cancelled early.

Good for him for being a voice in the video game "The Thing" though. That gig probably didn't pay a lot, but since The Thing has been in my top 5 movies since I was 4 years old and I watched it with my Dad, I would have done his voice role in that game for free

yes, i will clean up the audio in post-production and add music and bumpers etc.
then X-FILES TRUTH will release a 3-part special, with the cleaned up interview itself being part 2.
part 1 will be reviews on his book and hie website, part 3 - outtakes, a CSM music special and other oddities.

Please subscribe to X-FILES TRUTH at itunes
[launch itunes-go to 'store'-search for x-files-scroll down to 'podcasts'-click 'see more'-click on x-files truth and subscribe].
and you'll get all this plus much more.
we cover each episode in order plus lots of music - especially mark snows soundtrack, but other stuff too.

also, i forgot to mention, if you like all the episodes with C.S.M. buy the mythology set:
ABDUCTION, BLACK OIL, SUPER SOLDIERS, and COLONIZATION.
each is a 4 disk [mythology only] set, so you can buy 1 at a time if you want.
these are superb!
its the best set of any movie/tv DVDs that i own.
there's also extra features that are not on the regular season disks.
you can probably get them cheap at amazon.com or similar.

No joke? You can actually buy all of the X-Files episodes that matter while ditching all of the "freak of the week" eps? I was thinking that would be a great idea every single time I had to sit through another mindless filler episode in hopes that maybe something would happen at the end for the real story... (the "mythology", I now know it's referred to).

There were a couple episodes where that happened. Memory doesn't serve now, but do these collections contain any of the "freak of the week" episodes where Cancer Man would make a 2 minute appearance speaking with Skinner in his office at the end, or do they at least have those scenes cropped out?

Anyways... Thanks again for all the info. I'll do my best to be a part of this on Saturday night. Unless something unexpected comes up, I should be there, ready to chain smoke.

BTW... do you watch "Burn Notice"? I only ask because while watching an episode from either Season 4 or Season 5, i noticed that the cigs that Michael Weston's mom smokes are "Morley's". Just thought it was a cool nod to X-Files and Cancer Man, even though it was probably some sort of subliminal ploy to further associate smoking with cancer to the viewers.

"To Serve Man" comes to mind...... (a Twilight Zone episode, if you're too young to get the reference)

I don't know how I'll word it just yet, but I think I will ask WBD what he thinks about the seemingly bi-partisan effort to find the perfect balance of getting the most possible people as possible off of cigarette addiction by making them feel alienated from the rest of society while also raising the taxes on cigarettes for the ones who continue to smoke at exorbitant rates. His very character was a great example of how the only people since the late 90's who smoke in TV or movies are "bad" people.

I know I'm not the only one who thinks this. There's no doubt in my mind that while the Government has succeeded in the last 15 or so years to curb cigarette smoking, especially in the popular media, with their Nazi-nanny-state tactics in their right hand, that they've also magically been able to raise the taxes in their left hand on those who still hold out just enough to come out even in the end, if not make a profit.

LOL.... I can't imagine my corpse would taste good to any alien with all of that smoke running through my veins. I'm sure they REALLY cared they'd TRULY try to get us all off of smokes and make them outright illegal if the side effects from the over-night loss of cigarette tax revenue country-wide wouldn't make every "non-smoking" household in America pay 1k-2k more in property taxes per year to make up for the deficit. And if it were said to "the people" in that way, they'd no doubt vote for further smoke tax raises in a vast majority.

Haha... for all I know, WBD doesn't even really smoke. Maybe he was just using fake cigarettes. I'd still like to hear his thoughts on the issue given that he was one of the first super-villans that was known primarily for his smoking at the very same time that an American Hero's Clint Eastwood's aging persona as "Frank Horrigan" (an irreproachable "good guy") in "In the Line of Fire" was the last curmudgeon hold-out at his place of work that told the non-smoker where to shove their policy.

Actually, that reminds me of another episode that WBD was in. Skinner told him there was no smoking in the office and showed him the no smoking sign on his desk.

Actions speaking louder than words, Cancer Man just lit up, looked Skinner straight in the eyes, and pretended that those meaningless words were never even spoken.

yup, pretty cool huh? - just the main story arc episodes back-to-back. it's really a different and great experience watching the story unfold with no 'monster of the week' episodes in between.
you have to get the 1st set at least - ABDUCTION.
...but the episodes where he just say's a word or 2 in a non-mythos ep are not in the set - just the mythos ep's.

'no' on BURN NOTICE, but 'yes', the MORLEY reference is a nod to THE X-FILES. Those butts were made just for C.S.M., and funny you should mention it [nice intuition] but they WERE herbal cig's.
at least for some of the time, because [good call again] William B. Davis WAS a smoker but then quit, and now is very vocal against it [he mentions this in his book].

"To Serve Man" is one of my favorite ep's of TZ.

Mr. Davis will talk about the whole smoking issue i'm sure but go easy on him :)
we want him back later in the year to do a follow up :)

can't wait to talk to you sat nite ay 8pm ET
i'll be looking for 6ixstringjack.

i'm sure we ALL taste ok with a little catsup :)

Hey Shadow,

I'll definitely look into the DVD set you're talking about in the future. I think I need a little away time from X-Files though, since I just finished watching the entire run about 2 months ago. Anything that great I usually revisit every 5 years or so (Lost and Battlestar are definitely on that list, as well as many movies like Donnie Darko and Ink)

Great to know that the next time I watch X-Files, I won't have to sit through an entire 9 series run while only about 2/5ths of the episodes really held any interest to me. You could usually tell in the opening scene if it was going to be one of the great episodes, but even on the ones that you couldn't tell straight away, it always brought a smile on my face when I saw WBD in the credits because I knew I was in for a great ep.

Bummer that they don't have the few things he may have said in non-mythology eps as "extras". I can't even remember if any of that was very important, but at least if the episode was particularly mediocre otherwise (as more of them than I care to admit were), it was at least satisfying that you got a tiny bit of insight on the main story at the end.

Haha!!! He smoked fakes the whole time! No kidding?

I don't know if I'd call it intuition so much as a natural "Mulder-esque" open mind to the truth (which is often chock-full of irony such as Cancer Man not even smoking real cigarrettes).

Great for him for quitting, since he obviously wanted to quit. Bummer that he is vocally against it now though. I can only hope that while he uses his book as a soap-box about any negative energy he has about cigarettes and those who produce and distribute them, I hope that he doesn't vilify those who continue to smoke and spend any of his free time or voting rights to further the cause of belittling those who do smoke or making life harder for them by making sure that even though people like me can still pay 6 bucks a pack for the privilege of smoking, we can't actually smoke them anywhere except for in our closet with the lights out under a blanket.

Even though I have no intention on quitting because I fully admit I enjoy it, I understand where he's coming from though. They say that nicotine is even more addictive than heroin. Not that I've ever tried heroin before, but if that "fact" is really true, I think I may be partaking in the wrong addictive drug when you consider the "payoff". Let's just say I've never seen a movie where somebody lights up and the nearly instant result from the first puff seems orgasmic (or even better than orgasmic, if that's even possible).

Haha! To Serve Man! Right on. I remember watching that one with my dad when I was like 5 years old. My grandma told me that she watched the old Outer Limits and Twilight Zone with my dad all the time when he was about that age. I'm in the likely small demographic that is only in their 30s but has a deep love for Rod Serling and Monty Python.

Don't worry about me man... I'd never go RWED on Mr. Davis!

I've got too much respect for the man to ever overstep those boundaries. Put aside any pro/con ideology regarding smoking in general, and my admiration for his acting ability is even greater knowing that he played the Cancer Man role so convincingly, all the while he was not only a guy who quit, but he was outright against the practice.

Who knows, maybe I'll even buy his book after the chat? The only "celebrity" auto-biography I've ever read was Anthony Kiedis' "Scar Tissue", which my late uncle recommended. I always liked Red Hot Chili Peppers, but would never have picked up the book on my own. Glad he recommended it though because it was actually a fascinating read.

I'm pretty psyched about it too! Just to make sure, 8pm ET is 7pm CT, right? I'll have to make sure to wrap up my work early so I don't miss the beginning.

Care to tell us how you think this might all go down? I've rarely ever spoken to more than one person in a "messenger" setting, and otherwise my only internet interactions were posting like we do here.

Quote:

ps
i'm sure we ALL taste ok with a little catsup :)

LOL....

I think I read somewhere that the only mammal that is actually toxic to eat is the human being. No doubt a beer swilling, chain smoking guy like me would not be a healty meal in the end, but unless you know somebody who buys all of their food organically or eats only what they produce on their non-genetically enginerred farm, they wouldn't make a much better meal. Maybe only the farmers fall into this category..... who knows really how much better the top-dollar "Whole Food's" crowd is truly eating than the rest of us?

In the end, they may be better tasting, even without catsup perhaps, but the average non-smoker/non-drinker would be nearly as toxic as me because of all of the BS we consume and consider food.

I'm okay with it all though. I'm no idiot, so I know that if I don't change my habits I'll likely die of lung cancer or liver failure in the end, but in the mean time I rarely ever get sick since I started the bad habits, and I used to get sick quite often before I started them. The way I figure it, most "nasties" trying to compromise an otherwise young and healthy body don't stand a chance when they're up against the combined forces of constant nicotine infusions and at least a bi-nightly .18% blood alcohol content.

Alcohol in my bloodstream says to any flu trying to make it's way in, in Denzel Washington's booming baritone of course, "I'll burn this whole MF down! Flu Shots ain't got SHIT on me!"

It's cool that u may buy WBDs book after the interview - you could buy it before so you can ask him something right out of it but you sound like you know your WBD trivia anyway.

Haha, Caprica.... nope. I'm related to the Six String Samurai though... I'm his less musically talented, Texas Hold'em playing cousin.

I never saw more than about 3 minutes of the original BSG on reruns when I when I was a kid and said I'd never watch the remake. I hated the original. It was like watching "The Monkees in Space". I'm glad a friend at work turned me on to it though. That close minded mentality could have cost me seeing one of the best shows ever made!

So we're going to be actually talking with him then. Haha.... I'll be even more likely to be on my best behavior then. My fingers sometimes write checks that my mouth can't cash. I'm actually a little nervous about it now, lol. I'm not a celebophile by nature and I've actually never even attended any event where the opportunity to meet and speak with a celebrity would take place. The closest I ever got to a celebrity was shaking John Paxson's hand at my Great Aunt's funeral (from the Chicago Bulls dynasty Era). They lived on the same block.

That... and living vicariously through my family's wild celebrity encounters. My brother worked at Kohl's and Mario Van Peebles showed up to buy some underwear of all things. My mom and step dad were at the Wal-Mart near the touristy town they owned a cottage at and when they asked somebody who worked there why everybody seemed so interested in the tall, long haired guy walking through the store in his bare feet it was because he was Anthony Kedis of the Red Hot Chili Peppers (that story didn't make it into Scar Tissue, but if you read the book you'll probably know what was going on in his head that day).

Looking forward to tomorrow night. Thanks again,

well, you'll have the best celeb story soon.

i'll be opening it up to callers from the chat room after we're [my fellow agents and i] done asking mr. davis all the questions.

just remember to be in the chat so you can remind me to "unmute" you when we're ready. - if you aren't in the chat i'll look for your name anyway - all callers names are listed but it will help if you are also in the chat so you can send a message and talk with other philes.

i'll put the info here 1 more time to make it easy;

To listen live and chat (if you want), just go to www.Talkshoe.Com on Feb 4th at 8pm EST, 5pm PST and Enter Call ID 91161 at the top of the page. Then click the “Join call” button.

To call in and ask William B. Davis a question, just call in:

Phone Number: (724) 444-7444 and enter Call ID: 91161# when prompted.

You will need to be in the chat room to be available for us to take your call because callers will be muted to reduce background noise.

(just let us know in chat that you have a question and we’ll “un-mute” you when we’re ready for the next caller).

ok 6, think of some good questions - cant wait to talk to you!

We had a lot of people join us before and after the interview in the chat room and on the phone, as well as live tweets to Chelsea.
You’ll hear us talking a lot of ‘behind the scenes’ stuff about some issues some people had trying to join in, cookies, love and a lot of joking around.
Some of our guests include Salome from ‘Musing of an X-Phile‘ on the phone,
Roxane from ‘X-Files Memories‘, also thanks to Matt Allair from ‘X-Files Lexicon‘
