Hello Chris,

You are a renowned modelmaker. I wonder if you would consider making a model of the K'teremny class starship?

It's a sleeker, more modern alternative to the K'tinga. If the K'tinga was the counterpart to the Constitution refit, then the K'teremny would be the Klingon answer to the Excelsior.

Hello,

A bigger profile view comparing the ship to the K'tinga.

I have inserted the word 'dot' instead of a '.' in the link to prevent an overlarge picture from blowing up the thread.

Hey Tony! Honestly, I think that design is a little 'flat'- excuse the, um, is that a pun?
I'll build what anyone wants, and find a way to be fascinated by it.
But if it's from scratch, it wouldn't be cheap.
Still wanna talk?

Hey Chris,

Well, I wouldn't want to saddle you with something you considered uninteresting, but I am interested in your rates.

Let's open a dialogue.

Tony, I have different rates if I'm modifying an existing kit as opposed to scratch-building. Basic scratch build is $500 + material. $300 for kit modification. Less for smaller models, more for bigger.

Hello Chris,

How much do materials generally run? Your prices might be competitive with 3D CGI modelers.

On a typical 12-18" scratch build, materials can be about $100, twice that if the model is to be lighted. And even more than that if you're starting with nothing. I have a lot of paints glues & tools at my disposal.

Hello,

So ~ 800 bucks to do a ship from scratch, more or less.

I'll keep that in mind, because cgi work costs about the same, but you don't get an object to hold when you're done.

Well, less if not lit & not too big- by a couple hundred.

Forget which Trek movie it was, but one of the designers for the Klingon ships said they got their inspiration from watching body builders flex, and wanted that sort of imposing feel for when their ship comes on screen. I believe it was the Bird of Prey class they were talking about.
