Howdy fellow browncoats.

I figure I haven't been here in probably over a year. Mostly due to health issues. But I'm back and I wanted to talk about possibilities.

Maybe a few people might remember my website saveserenity.com. If you're not among them, I don't mind. The site was mainly focused on the promotion of some sort of Firefly media, be it a movie, TV show, or whatever your imagination can come up with. Sadly, the site was mostly a failure. However we certainly worked hard to bring the message to the powers that be that we weren't ready to give up on our 9 favorite characters.

Anyway, lately I've felt a calling to return to what I started, to pick up where we left off, and keep flying. But I have one major question: are you interested? Are there enough people here that would want to join a site for the purpose of pushing our message that we will never stop flying, no matter how remote those possibilities may be? Or do you at least want to say that you gave it your all, that you didn't give up on the dream?

I personally would rather go down fighting. How about you?

Yep, I started a thread a few months ago, asking who is up for doing something for the 10th 'Versary of the Airing in September... We got about 15 people, which is respectable enough for a post from silly ol' me, and I would still love to be part of whatever I can do, but I have a feeling we'd need a rallying cry from someone on our Shiny Crew, to get anything DONE! We've been lazily stuck in limbo-land since the "Help Nathan Buy Firefly" fiasco, and could use a kick start... Free Comic day is May 5th (I think)and I was waiting to see how that goes, and if things perk up around here much...

I gots a knife, and I'll go down fighting...I'm just not sure where the pointy end goes anymore......... ??????????????

Well that's at least somewhat encouraging. Theoretically I could have a site up and running around June 1st. I want to do this one way or another, but I wanted to think ahead this time and build up some interest first. It would also be nice to have a kind of partnership with FFF in order to stay connected with the fan base.

BWAH!

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

Please don't take this the wrong way. I appreciate your enthusiasm, but do we really need another website? We already have this one, and Haken has Facebook and Twitter accounts, there's serenitymovie.org and whedonesque.com, and TheOneTrueBix has recently created firefly10th.com.

Well, I understand where you're coming from. I've discouraged people from making unneeded websites before for the sake of avoiding redundancy. The sites you mentioned are okay, but they don't seem to have the singular goal of trying to bring back the show/make another movie or whatever. I know it's a long shot, but at the very least it would show just how dedicated we are to the people and actors we care about.

FFF is great, don't get me wrong. This is the best place for Firefly fans to meet. But that's the difference. This site is a fan meeting place, not a hub for planning "campaigns" as we did a couple years ago. SaveSerenity would be focused on one thing and one thing only.

I don't see the harm in making another site. At worst it would simply fade away. At best it would grab the attention (dare I say) of the actors, Joss Whedon, FOX, etc. I know they know just how much we love the show and the movie, but I think it would be a shame if we didn't try.

BWAH!

I know it sounds like I am discouraging you, but I'm not. I want more Firefly/Serenity as much, if not more, than any other Browncoat. Go ahead and create your site, post a link here and I'll visit. Start a petition and I'll sign it, just as I have done for every other one I've ever seen. I've voted in most of the polls, signed the petitions, bought the DVDs and Blu-Rays, plus tons of other merchandise. I've sent emails to FOX, Universal and Sci-Fi, as well as snail-mail letters.

You do realize that you are not the first, and you won't be the last, to come up with an idea like this? Others have gone so far as to solicit donations, which they later had to refund since Hollywood just doesn't work like that. I'm sure Joss, FOX, Universal, plus many others, know exactly how much we want more show or another movie. As much as I hate to say it, and despite what it seems like sometimes, we're just not that big of a fanbase, and I'm not sure we ever will be, at least not as big as the studios would want.

I just think what you want to accomplish can be done with existing sites. Every mention of Firefly and Serenity usually ends up here, and the creators of some of these other sites have contacts within the industry, and they know through experience what works and what doesn't. TheOneTrueBix, Gossi (original creator of serenitymovie.org), Jeremy Neish (creator of serenitymovie.net/fireflydvd.com, which I neglected to mention before). He also was one of the producers of the Done the Impossible documentary DVD. There are others but I'm not sure who is responsible for The Signal podcasts or the organization of the Flanventions, the Browncoat Balls and cruises. Then there is Can't Stop the Serenity. All of this activity, and we still don't have a sequel. What more can be done?

not to fret!

Faith is a very strong ally.

The website may not do much, but I don't see the harm in it. At least it's something to do. I've been itchin for another go.

I'm in.

Soon's Joss says it's a go, we'll have fans just crawling out of the woodworks. I think there's far more fans than people give us credit for, it's just most are inactive right now.

Help Nathan Buy Firefly kinda showed just how volatile the situation is, and is an indication if you ask me. It only took two days for there to be enough Firefly fans getting involved in that that we actually got some article blurbs about it in the mainstream media.

Organizing stuff can be done here. But, it won't go anywhere because of the lack of people. Sorry.

What is needed (which I've been saying for a *long* time) is for people to actually do something. "Getting the word out" type stuff doesn't fit that bill. It's like talking about a FF video game without actually starting to make it. It accomplishes nothing.

Point of fact, anything official is exceedingly unlikely to happen (remember the MMO that the lawyers killed?).

In other words, if you want something to happen, you'll have to make it yourself. You'll also have to keep it secret until release because as soon as you get close to release, the lawyers will be after you. Also, releasing must be done anonymously and must be done in a way that prevents whatever you make from being taken down (e.g. bittorrent).

There has been ONE exception to this. That being Browncoat Redemption. Not sure how they got permission (probably had to do with 100% going to charity). But, they'd be the ones to ask about that.
