I just read this rather profound quotation. I thought I would share it here.

Quote:

"Your children are not your children. They are the sons and daughters of life's longing for itself. They come through you, but not from you. Though they are with you, yet they belong not to you. You may give them your love but not your thoughts. You may house their bodies, but not their souls. You may strive to be like them but seek not to make them like you.” - Khalil Gibran

Despite lib-prog-Obama acolytes working desperately to destroy the backbone of all humanity,(i.e. families), its not working.

So, for all the Thulsa Doom slaves... a quote:

"She follows him as a slave. Seeking for the truth of her soul... as if *I* could not give it to her?!!"

"None of you seem to understand. I'm not locked in here with you... YOU are locked in here with ME."

A person should be looking for their own truths, not truths from others. A guy who thinks he's more equipped to give the truth about someone's "soul" to them is a guy I'd question in general. Whether slaves are following them or not. :|

How many here have created children?

How many have created children, and raised them?

Not adopted. Not took in. Not mentored. Not been step-parents to. (Tho there is absolutely nothing wrong with that)

Those are the ones whose opinion on this quote actually matter.

Hello,

For some people, personal achievements serve not to enrich their souls, but rather to set them above and apart from their fellow men.

Well, that's why I passed the buck on CTS' quote, but the quote you responded with wasn't all that topical Wulf. In fact I'd say that it carries the exact OPPOSITE sentiment from CTS' quote, in that you just endorsed telling people what to do and how to live, because you have the truth and some other person is wrong.

It's a fancy way of saying what I say all the damn time.

They're PEOPLE, not PROPERTY.

And the Wulfenwhiner has once again revealed the true colors behind his lies, by his simple, willful, and intentional ignorance deluding him into not realizing that the meaning behind either that quote, or mine, is exactly the same - as he argues for one, and against the other.

THAT, shithead, is how gullible you are - and why you are a danger to anyone and everyone, because your own ignorant jackass, pre-programmed, knee-jerk STUPIDITY can be counted on, but you as a person cannot.

Which makes you less than a machine.
And no, nobody did it to you, but you.

Mixed feelings about this comment. On one hand, I'm not liberal but I'm crazy and that's not a good realm to be raising kids from, which is something I don't really want to do. On the other hand, mocking people if they happen to be sterile or infertile is kind of a jerk move. Also, unfortunate implications about whether some people should breed - the answer is up to them.

America loves a winner!

Though not about child abuse here, I'm reminded of the lyrics from a 10,000 Maniacs song, What's the matter here.

I'm tired of the excuses everybody uses, he's your kid, do as you see fit,

but get this through that I don't approve of what you did to your own flesh and blood.

Even in those 2 lines, we have a disconnect.

- he's your kid.
- your own flesh and blood.

Yes, we bring our kids into this world. They are OF us. And like the old ( hopefully humorous ) threat... " I brought you into this world, I can take you out ... " , that only holds for so long.

Eventually, the child becomes the adult, and the adult the child.

*que Circle of Life background music... *

As we don't belong to our parents, our children don't belong to us.

We belong... to ourselves.

Reasonable quote.

I think everyone has the right to have an opinion on this quote, since we were all children once. I do think though that when you've been the other part of the equation, the parent, you might have additional useful thoughts on the matter and a more rounded and full perspective.

I assume you're my pal until you let me know otherwise.

Magnificent quote. Wish more people understood it; far too many, as Frem has taught us, view their children the same way they view their pets or sofas: Property. If only parents realized the treasure they had in each child and encouraged the child, praised the child, and learned how to help the child think for THEMSELVES instead of indoctrinating them into their own religion/politics/etc. Wouldn't that be grand?

Re Wulf...really sad, isn't it? Talk about clueless...it's not even worth the trouble trying to explain it to him.
Quote:

Despite lib-prog-Obama acolytes working desperately to destroy the backbone of all humanity,(i.e. families), its not working.
I can't even figure out what he MEANS by this...does HE even know?

His comment, I'm betting, isn't about political sides, I think there's a good chance it's aimed at me. I posted at one point that it occurred to me, after reading his snark that I didn't know shit 'cuz all I had was dogs, that I'd raised two of Jim's kids. So now STEP-parents aren't "legit" either. What's most amusing of ALL, as mentioned, is that he doesn't even HAVE a kid yet, but seems to have deluded himself into thinking only HE knows what's right--talk about unclear on the subject! Wulf is, to me, the very saddest person here. He seems like such a child, throwing childish tantrums, claiming "I'm the only one who's right!", putting up fantasies and imaginary heroes, not understanding what's going on around him, yet determined to have his say, kind of like the braggadocio you see in a young child. Really saddense me for him...and others who shall remain nameless.
Quote:

That's hysterical. What makes you "one", Wulf? Have YOU parented a child? Yes, you either just became a father or are about to, but what makes you think that entitles you to...anything!? You don't know shit from shinola about child rearing, so your opinion isn't just the idiocy it appears on the surface, it truly IS ignorant about parenting!

You realize that the creating part of having children is the least important one, right?

I'm no saying that the biological bond is meaningless on an emotional level (or a legal one, obviously) but in terms of human dignity and the actual effort that goes into raising a human being, it's utterly irrelevant.

Anytime you hear about biological parents neglecting, abusing or even killing their own children you should realize that you earn your worth as a parent by what you do, continuously, for children, for years.

Ejecting sperm in the right place or even going through the hard work of giving birth is NOT part of that effort.

I'd rethink that. No one's ever left me alone with an infant because I physically recoil from them if they're within five feet of me.

Hee, hee, hee...Byte, you're funny. Also about a hundred times classier than Wulf, not to mention more mature. I giggled when I read the bit about "if they're within five feet of me". I'm more subtle than you; I smile and try to say something appropos...like "what a cute baby", but inside I'm recoiling. Have seen some actually beautiful babies, some babies with beautific smiles, and a few that have looked right at me and given me the feeling they know more than they're saying, but also many of a more negative type.

See, my M.O. is that if a dog (or a baby) is beautiful TO ME, I'll say so; if they're ugly (like little rat dogs or crying babies), I'll say "isn't he cute"--becaue everyone loves their dog and everyone loves their baby, so I don't want to hurt their feelings. Beyond that...show me the door!

As to Wulf, I find it hysterical that--I believe even before his baby is born?--he's spouting like a puffed-up rooster and thinks he knows it all. Parenting IS hard...as is the times, years later, when you look back and think "oh, shit, I should have said/done THAT!" and castigate yourself. Then, too, there have been the times Jeff has told me how much I mean to him and relates something I did that he actually REMEMBERS and it was important to him. Then Ipuff up like a rooster (inwardly) and feel good.

Sadly, sometimes you have to wait until they're in their forties to hear that stuff, but it still feels great!
