Just saw this quotation on Twitter. I found it exceptionally insightful.

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

Had a government professor point this out to me about 25 years ago when he noted that the job of welfare workers is to get everyone off welfare - which if they do successfully, will result in them being out of work, and on welfare...

Doesn't just apply to welfare/charity. Applies to medicine. Government. Religion. Environmental institutions. Most institutions.

The only exception I can think of is education, where there is a steady supply of newly minted human beings to be educated.

So many gods, so many creeds,
So many paths that wind and wind,
While just the art of being kind
is all the sad world needs.

Don't be excludin' people, that's rude.

There are a lot of places where actually educating kids has lost out to an agenda of keeping the kids contained for 8 hours of their day and get them used to violations of privacy and civil rights. Expect this to get progressively worse.

I feel sorry for teachers, a lot of them are honest people who do want to do their job, but the school districts and administration are backwards ass stupid. And that's if there aren't other politics involved...

Well, of course. He was just using the welfare department as an example to illustrate the point.

Look at our counterterrorism apparatus: Can you think of a machine better designed to manufacture more and more terrorists? It's become its own branch of the military-industrial complex: the Terror-Industrial Complex. They take people who are disaffected, but no real threat, and train them and equip them to be real threats, then claim that they've thwarted a credible threat. Or sometimes they don't even bother to thwart them, if it's more politically expedient to let them "succeed" in a mission at the moment...

And of course that's the one the GOP would prefer to do away with completely.

Hello,

I was talking about this recently in another thread. Once an organization is created, it begins to act like an organism. Whatever its stated goals are, its first goal will be to survive.
