The Green Star, a local ultralite, has crashed very near here, both pilot and passenger survived but were evac'd and their condition is listed as critical - FAA inspectors are looking over the plane at the moment.
Imma go see about the recovery/repair of the aircraft if possible since that's all I can do at the moment.

Oh wow. You don't think... Sabotage? Your interest suggests to me you're looking to recover the black box before someone else is.

Good luck.

Oh nahhh, not an ultralight run by folk who I don't even really know - just that I feel a lot of common cause with ultralight pilots since the FAA deliberately set up the rules to MAKE them unsafe to operate, and then uses the inevitable crashes to trump up their claims of how important their ridiculously expensive licensing is.

The GT400 was barely within compliance, and mosta the time I ran the Dominator there was a bit of rule bending, sure.

Mostly I wanted to get their plane back to em in good condition, but the inspectors wouldn't let me cause they wanna look it over some more - they did hint that they wouldn't have to take it apart though.

Mostly I suspect maintanence failure, some of these engines, especially the Rotax, have a couple QC problems so you really have to be all over it, and keep a good log, which I kinda-maybe think might be an issue here.

But no, not suspecting anything untoward in this event.
From what I hear the couple is doin better, no real info on their condition though.

(ETA: Also, I *can* probably fix the plane/engine if anyone lets me, and I would just out of solidarity.)

ETA2: Yanno, I don't think most ultralights HAVE black boxes, just more weight on an already underpowered airframe.
