Amusing...they seem to be having trouble keeping their act together.

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said Tuesday that his campaign is "thoroughly vetting" Marco Rubio as it searches for a running mate despite reports that the popular Cuban-American senator from Florida is not being considered.

ABC News and The Washington Post cited unnamed advisers in reporting that Rubio — a rising star in Republican politics and one of the most prominent Hispanic leaders serving in elected office — wasn't on the short list to run for vice-president alongside Romney in the November election.

"I can't imagine who such people are, but I can tell you this: They know nothing about the vice-presidential selection or evaluation process," Romney told reporters Tuesday evening outside a Michigan ice cream shop. "The story was entirely false. Marco Rubio is being thoroughly vetted as part of our process."

Earlier in the day, Romney had refused to comment on reports that Rubio, the son of Cuban immigrants, wasn't under consideration as a potential running mate.

The presumptive Republican nominee initially told Fox News only that "a number of people are being vetted" but that only two people — he and a senior adviser — know who's on the list. He repeated that statement Tuesday evening but clarified Rubio's status as a potential vice-presidential pick. Two Romney representatives would not say if or when Rubio had submitted paperwork for the vetting process.

The unanswered question was among several that lingered Tuesday as Romney's campaign sought to counter media reports suggesting that Romney had bypassed Rubio. http://www.canada.com/entertainment/Romney+says+Marco+Rubio+being+vett

You can bet your bippy they'd make all the right moves to make it look like Rubio IS being vetted NOW. I loved this: "The presumptive Republican nominee initially told Fox News only that "a number of people are being vetted" but that only two people — he and a senior adviser — know who's on the list." How dumb does he actually think we are?! LOTS of people know who he's vetting, including all the potential VP's staffs which have been asked for all the paperwork involved:

News report which had suggested that because the Florida senator had not received any request for paperwork, he wasn't being vetted for the vice presidential nominee search.

Beth Myers (ph) is the long-time Romney aide now leading his V.P. search and true to form, she wasn't talking. But other campaign aides told Fox News, Romney and Meyers are still in the early stages and not to read too much into the failure to demand paperwork from any given individual just yet. http://www6.lexisnexis.com/publisher/EndUser?Action=UserDisplayFullDoc

I find that hard to believe, this far into the campaign and this close to the convention. More likely, as I see it, it got leaked that Rubio wasn't on the list, Romney's campaign had to scramble to address it because it would be a real slap in the face if he wasn't being seriously vetted, after a few hours Romney said he WAS being vetted to forestall outrage by the Hispanic community, and the end result will be that Rubio won't be on the list.

We'll have to wait and see if this becomes a "Has so-and-so been vetted?" question asked of Romney from here on out. That's inconvenient, to say the least.

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

R-Money also took time off from his campaign to say that Obama should not get any credit for the improving economy, after spending months lying about the economy and claiming that Obama was making it worse.

So the FauxNews talking point is:

If the economy is getting better and adding jobs, lie and say Obama's making it worse. And when called on your bullshit, just turn around and say that IF it's getting better, Obama deserves no credit.

Just like R-Money deserves all the money he got from his vulture-capitalist firm, Bain Capital, but he deserves none of the blame for any of the companies they bankrupted, or any of the people whose pensions and retirements they stole when they put them out of work.
