NEWOLDBROWNCOAT

"Hey, I've got a great idea! Let's schedule our convention in the hurricane region, right in the middle of hurricane season. Maybe we could all get flooded, or drowned, or impaled by flying debris. Maybe the hall could cave in because of heavy rain on the roof, or wind pressure. Maybe our airplanes could crash while we're arriving, or going home. Maybe vital services like electricity for the TV cameras could get cut off. Maybe all the satelite uplinks and cable connections could get blown away. Maybe all the hookers and bellboys could be too busy surviving or leaving town to serve the delegates. Maybe the cops could be too busy actually protecting local property and lives during the disaster to protect us."

"Nah, never happen. God is on our side. Nothing could possibly go wrong."

Mmm, I wonder, given past statements about such things, why God is so angry with them...

However, I'm sure they'll keep busy:
Quote:

Many clubs have taken out ads inviting GOP delegates "to party like a liberal" in a city where the "poles are open all night." City officials say the convention, expected to draw more than 50,000 visitors, could be Tampa's biggest party ever. Imagine all those rainmakers.

A strip club with a spaceship on the roof seems an odd place to expect Republicans. At first blush, one might not equate lap dances with the political party that wraps itself in buttoned-down family values.

But at convention time, even upstanding men seem to seek out undressed women. When the Christian group Promise Keepers held a convention in Tampa a couple of years ago, attendees flooded the 2001 Odyssey, co-owner Jim Kleinhans recalls. They had such a good time that "they kept their promise to come back the next night."

If past conventions are any indicator, Republicans are likely to outspend Democrats heavily at topless bars and strip clubs, says Angelina Spencer. She heads the Association of Club Executives, an organization for the nation's 4,000 "gentleman's club" owners. The group talked to members in the host cities of past conventions.

"When we compared spending," Spencer notes, "the average showed Republicans spending $150 per person at an adult club, versus Democrats, who averaged $50 a person."

Asked about the notion of Republicans patronizing strip clubs, convention spokesman James Davis told CNN, "We're focused on having a great convention and nominating Mitt Romney."

But Tampa sees dollar signs. The city, which hosted four Super Bowls, is known as "the lap dance capital of the world." (Actually, it's not.) Las Vegas, New Orleans and Atlanta -- even Cincinnati -- have more strip clubs.

But Tampa has the rep.

Most "gentleman's clubs" are enthusiastically gearing up for the Republicans. At 2001 Odyssey, they're hiring dancers, spiffing up the stage and spaceship VIP rooms, and erecting a tented red carpet at the back door to shield patrons from prying paparazzi.

Across town, at a club quaintly named Thee DollHouse, they're finishing a $1.5 million face-lift. Waitresses and shot girls sport red, white and blue Wonder Woman corsets. And the porn star known for her resemblance to a certain former vice-presidential candidate -- Lisa Ann of Hustler's "Nailin' Paylin" videos -- has been signed for a "stimulating keynote undress.

;

"I'll be getting topless," Lisa Ann says over the phone from Los Angeles. "You betcha I'm excited. It's going to be a lot of fun." She says she's an Obama supporter but is grateful to Alaska's former governor for the career boost.

Nice to know they'll be "distributing the wealth" to those less fortunate...it's all that repression, you know, makes a guy itchy when he's out of town and away from the church.

Maybe the hurricane will give them more time to hunker down at their favorite strip clubs...all those good old "family values" guys.

ETA: A lot of the move to Tuesday is because the networks won't be broadcasting Monday, the official first day. That's why they moved Ann Romney's speaking gig from Monday, too...

When you think about it, (libs don't think) will MORE people be watching TV now because of the story? Will this mean a larger audience for the convention? Also don't forget that the Demorats had to shorten their convention to 2 days because of $ not a storm, and the weather maybe better for protesting.

The Tea Party and Occupy DNC may enjoy their protests

Hey, I'm all in favor of higher viewership (not that a hurricane is gong to cause ANY)--let the American people listen to the lies and bullshit they spout to the cheers of their base! Intelligent people already know what's happening and how further and further out the GOP is getting from reality; let 'em hear the over-the-top rhetoric and self-agrandizing speeches. Won't change anyone's mind, but may get more to the polls out of fear of these crazies, and rightfully so!

The more this election's Republicans open their mouths, the more they show themselves for what they are, and they'll be spouting idiocy right and left at their little "party", you can be sure. At least those who aren't out at the strip clubs...

Should make for some wonderful news cycles, and fun to watch!

Hell, when HAVEN'T they bin all wet for a long time now, what with their "witch" candidate, Bachman playing McCarthy, Romney and Ryan lying through their teeth, Romney too scared to show his tax returns to the public, one of their nominiees saying women can't get pregnant from rape, and on and on...

Keep it up, GOP, you're doing GREAT!

If the DNC convention does turn into a disaster it's likely Barry won't go, you have to drag him to disaster areas

Apparently the RNC wants an antiseptic convention.

They've banned banners, umbrellas, etc. (no Ron Paul mention), and changed the rules so the Ron Paul supporters get no say.

They certainly do like to control things...

I thought it was announced months ago that the President wouldn't be attending, since he's already the nominee and there's no reason for him to be there.

I believe quite a few Congresspeople aren't attending either convention; some have tough races, some have other reasons, but in both cases, there are some who aren't going. Which has nothing to do with the thread, of course--as usual.

RNC Swag Bag Has Early Version of Romney Book
Philip Klein: "All credentialed media checking into the Republican National Convention are being given a swag bag featuring brochures and items from various sponsors such as sunglasses and a pocket fan. But the bag also contains a copy of the original hardcover version of Mitt Romney's book No Apology, in which he suggested his approach to health care in Massachusetts could be accomplished in the rest of the country."

The paperback version, which came out early last year, completely revised the section on his health care plan.

Hee, hee, hee...WHY are the Repubs so incompetent this time around, from the big things to the little ones? Getting more and more fascinated by this as time goes on.

Just as I was loth to believe, and eventually grudgingly came to accept, that the Repubs were determined to oppose everything in the hopes it would get rid of Obama and give them back power, even if it was to the detriment of the country, I am now getting nigglings in the back of my brain that they might be deliberately sabotaging themselves to set up a 2016 win (or SOMETHING). It seems TOTALLY contrary to common sense, but I can't figure out why they are being so incredibly incompetent (almost seemingly deliberately) otherwise...

Boy, you got THAT right! The egregious twists and turns they have gone through just to block the Paul people from having their voices heard disgusts me--it shows all too clearly that they are willing to change the rules and do whatever underhanded thing they want to gain unlimited power, rather than let there be any voice of dissent. This is how I envision they would govern the country, especially given how they have done precisely the same sort of things to block millions of Americans from even being able to cast their ballots! There is no conscience, no concept of right and wrong, obviously, merely utilizing whatever is to hand in order to get their way and achieve power. It sickens me heartily.
