"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

Yup, he really said that.

"I supported Bush in 2000 and 2004 and intellegence [sic] had very little to do with that decision." - Hero

Mitt Romney, introducing his running mate: "Join me in welcoming the next President of the United States, Paul Ryan!"

Rappy's response? "You're lying, gullible ( believing in some BS you heard on msnbc ) or hard of hearing."

And Arizona Governor Jan Brewer came out and endorsed President Obama:

Rappy's been going on for 4 years now about Obama saying "57 states"; can you give an example of me "getting upset" about it?

JONGSSTRAW

I thought Rubio's speech was as absurdly bad as Christie's. These so-called future stars of the Republican Party gave speeches that primarily showcased their over-bloated egos as they blathered on waaaaay tooooo long about themselves and their records. Then they'd add before closing...oh yeah, by the way vote for Romney, like they were never told why the fuck they were there in the first place. Hey guys... like, well, yanno...the Romney versus Obama thingy thing? Anyone? Bueller? Amazing that all the hyped power speakers fell embarrassingly short of properly supporting Romney. Hell, any regular weeknight Hannity show could have done the job better than all of them combined.

Hmmm, better than Reuben's.
..One more.
Ben!
..My last one.
Okay.

NIKI2

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

Sounds like I didn't miss anything last night...did Rubio bother to correct himself? Or did the crowd even notice? Brewer is no surprise, that ditz can't keep her head on straight.

As to Rappy's "57 states", yes, I too have seen it over and over and over; it seems to be his backup, and I don't recall Mike responding to it the last few times, or ever being particularly upset by it. We're just used to it and him, and ignore his repetitive shit.

Rats--I looked up "Obama gaffes" and the first site I found listed some. But their first three "gaffes" were "Overuse of Teleprompter", "Bows Deepl(sic) Saudi King Abdul" and "Delivers Muslim 'Love Speech' in Cairo".

I didn't look further. Those aren't "gaffes".

Next site: Gaffe #1: "President Obama failed to warn Israeli officials before declaring last year, over the objections of senior advisers, that β€œthe borders of Israel and Palestine should be based on the 1967 lines with mutually agreed swaps.” That's not a "gaffe", it's a policy statement, and it's exactly what he intended to say (and I happen to agree with him).

Gaffe #2: "President Obama and then-French President Nicholas Sarkozy were overheard trash-talking Netanyahu at the G-20 summit". I guess that does constitute a gaffe.

Gaffe #3: "President Obama chose Sept. 17, 2009 β€” the 70th anniversary of the Soviet invasion of Poland β€” to tell Poland that he was caving in to Russian demands and abandoning their missile defense agreement." Again, was that a gaffe or a policy statement? Does it matter what DAY he said it on?

You certainly don't have to AGREE with his policies, but I'm beginning to wonder if these guys understand what a gaffe IS...as in something said in public which either was misstated, showed ignorance on a topic or was just plain silly. You know, like Biden's "chains" remark.

The definitions I found were "a social blunder, esp a tactless remark", "a noticeable mistake", "a social blunder; faux pas". I thought it was a misstatement, something the person intended to say differently (such as the two examples here), or was caught saying what they really believe (but politically shouldn't have said).

I'm sure Raptor will be along to give us a detailed LIST of Obama's actual speaking gaffes. I'll wait until then, but personally, I get an equal a kick out of anyone's gaffes--IF they were gaffes, not edited to make them seem like gaffes. And no, "you didn't build that" (which they "built" their entire convention on) wasn't a gaff. It was deliberately cut to omit what he said in order to make a political point--the identical point Romney made at another time.

Just for fun, I found these on the "57 states" thing:

http://www.fireflyfans.net/mthread.aspx?bid=18&tid=35727&mid=6
55592

11/26/08
Raptor: Barack " 57 States" Obama ??
No response from Mike.

http://www.fireflyfans.net/mthread.aspx?bid=18&tid=48739&mid=8
47736

6/15/11:
Raptor: And that's not even a scandal, say , like saying there are 57 states, might be.
No response from Mike.

http://www.fireflyfans.net/mthread.aspx?bid=18&tid=49778&mid=8
63493

9/29/11:
Raptor: Cain knows there are 50, not 57 states in the USA
Mike's reply: Can you prove that he knows that? Do you think he knows how many Amendments our Constitution has? Isn't that one of those things that you find too trivial to even respond to? Or is it only trivial when Herman Cain misspeaks?

http://beta.fireflyfans.net/mthread.aspx?bid=18&tid=52769&mid=
907893

8/15/12:
Raptor: Obama flatly lied ( or is too FUCKING stupid to know the truth...hell, he thinks there are 57 states, after all )
Mike: Meanwhile, House Speaker Boehner is so FUCKING stupid that he actually thinks Obama caused the drought all by himself.

http://blu.fireflyfans.net/linearmthread.asp?d=8/11/2012
8/11/12
Raptor: At least he didn't claim there were 57 states. At least, someday, Ryan MAY be President... in 8 years.
Mike: Thing is, that wouldn't make Ryan "the next President of the United States", would it?

http://blu.fireflyfans.net/linearmthread.asp?d=8/12/2012
8/12/12
Raptor: It's not like he said there were 57 states, and then never corrected himself
No comment from Mike.

That was kinda fun, but jeez Mike, even I didn't realize Raptor's been at this for FOUR YEARS!! He really needs some new material!

Thanks, Niki. That's funny, because I seem to remember Rappy saying he KNEW it was just a harmless gaffe by Obama, and no big deal... and yet he constantly brings it up, sometimes even rather insistently seeming to believe that Obama really thinks there are 57 states, or is "too FUCKING stupid" to know how many there are.

I don't seem to be too upset in any of those instances, and I can't recall ever claiming that the gaffe itself never happened, or that Rappy was just making it up, or being gullible and believing something he'd heard on his chosen news outlets.
