Many cars have stereotypes, and typically Hummer owners and drivers are thought of as being selfish, uncaring people. That's mainly because they are driving a car that drinks gas like Natty Light at a fraternity rush.

But not all owners are selfish. For example, one Canadian Hummer driver used his car to shield four children from being run over. That's pretty ok, eh?

The driver, Darrell Krushelnicki, had just dropped his girlfriend off at a mall in Edmonton, Canada, and was waiting at an intersection to go about his day. As he sat there, he saw four kids crossing the road.

But then he saw trouble. A driver was coming quickly up the inside lane towards the red light and didn't look like he was going to stop. Unsurprisingly, it appeared he was on a cell phone.

Instead of letting the kids, who ranged in age from three to 16, get mowed down, Krushelnicki eased his Hummer into the intersection to block the path of the oncoming car.

It worked.

The man in the speeding car hit the Hummer and not the kids. Other than a loose tooth, Krushelnicki was not injured and he immediately went to check on the kids and make sure they were ok. The driver that was on his phone was shaken up, but also uninjured.

Police are recommending Krushelnicki for a citizen award for his actions. The other driver, John Troy Heitzman, is being charged with dangerous driving. That sounds aboot right.

Too bad they stopped building the "Hummer"

He couldn't have done that in a "Smart" car.

No, but perhaps if several smart cars, all working together, you know... for the common good of the community ?

Ha! I made myself laugh at that one.

"Smart" cars are disposable, they're the "BIC" lighters of cars.

Why do you imagine a Prius wouldn't have been able to do that?

Don't get me wrong - it's an awesome story, and I'm glad the guy chose to put himself between children and danger. But it's not about the car, is it? Isn't it more about the actions of the guy behind the wheel?

Crediting the Hummer for this guy's good deed is like crediting the aircraft manufacturer for Capt. Sully's heroism.

Smart cars are neither. They're not smart, and they're not quite cars, either. They're far overweight for their size, and the mileage just isn't there.

You kinda have to read the story to get it.

I did read the story.

Why do you find the story so shocking? Because somebody documented a single case of a Hummer owner not acting like a selfish prick? That's what shocks you? That a Hummer driver actually did something altruistic? Ayn Rand would call him a weakling.

Hell, I had some random guy in a minivan do something similar after the wreck which near killed me, he pulled his van in position to make sure no one else hit me while I was down, and then once the area was secured simply drove off.
People are generally decent folk, no matter what they drive.

Although according to my ex, most BMW owners are assholes.
I found that terribly amusing cause she said it while we were en route to pick up my new ride cause she had no idea what I had bought at the time.

I'll spell it out for ya again... because some how, it's escaped you.

Now, do you get it ? Or do you just want to continue this silly, pointless game of yours where you blindly play the contrarian to anything I post ?

Again, you're actually surprised that somebody found one single Hummer driver who isn't an asshole and a selfish prick?

Setting kind of a low bar there, aren't you? Are you genuinely surprised that there's one decent Hummer owner out there? What does that say about you?

Brings to mind the old saying about the difference between a cactus and a BMW...

With a cactus, the pricks are on the OUTSIDE.

NIKI2

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

Good one. "That's mainly because they are driving a car that drinks gas like Natty Light at a fraternity rush." Another good one.

Whatever one's choice of cars, I don't think it's a COMPLETE reflection of the person...tho' I have to admit, living in a sea of Beemers (not to mention Mercedes, Lexuses, limos, etc.), it HAS been my experience that many Beemer drivers seem to have a higher opinion of themselves...

Nonetheless it's pretty silly to judge all Hummer drivers because of what they drive. I'd rather think of how great that guy was and how willing to put himself and his car (are Hummers really "cars"?) in danger like that. I hope he gets the award, and I hope the damned cell-phoner's insurance fixes it and raises his premium WAY up!

Now if we were to get on the subject of people who are driving and on a cell phone...
No. No. I won't go there...
