I absolutely ADORE that! Great way to keep people's attention on the announcement, since most people don't pay attention.

Air New Zealand partnered with WETA Workshop on a brand new Hobbit inspired Safety Video. It features cameo appearances including Sir Peter Jackson.

Go Sir Peter!!!

Being a hard-core Tolkienite since the sixties, I think it's great New Zealand is taking advantage of LOTR having been shot there to put it to good use. I LOVED Jackson and recognized all the characters, but didn't catch any of the other 'cameos'--did anyone else?

It's fun to watch, too...I've already watched it three times, and giggled several times--prize for first giggle of the morning goes to CTTS, easily!

For those too lazy to cut and paste:

And the fourth time around I just caught: Jackson (?) is making The Hobbit! I'm in seventh heaven...

Tit for tat got us where we are today. If we want to be grownups, we need to resist the ugliness. If we each did, this would be a better reflection on Firefly and a more welcome place. I will try.

That just made my day.

Thanks.

( and Yes, Niki. PJ is on board. First installment comes up 'round Christmas, I believe. Gonna effort to keep my streak for midnight premiers of Middle Earth movies alive for 3 more times, not just one. darn! )

"Installment"? More than one?

Okay, got it. Found it on the internet--shivers down my spine--OH BOY!!!

Blanchet, Lee, McKellen, BLOOM (easy on the eyes, and have a couple of his other movies!), WEAVING (BIG Weaving fan!), all back! I imagine I didn't recognize the "cameos" because they're from the new movie? Did YOU see any recognizable faces from LOTR, Rap? I know aside from dogs and LOTR, we have a mutual...uh, dislike? (may be too mild a word for me)...but you're my go-to man for LOTR. Tell me everything you know, quick!

I'm in heaven...not sure how they'll stretch it to THREE installments (?), but I'll enjoy every minute. Trailer is amazing (no surprise).

So did you work out the Elvish? I tried, but no luck...I used to be able to write in Elvish, but those days are long gone. And I spent far too much time trying--time to get off the internet.

Oh boy oh boy oh boy, a Christmas present to look forward to...(says Dec. 13, close enough)

Seems they're working in the goings on of The White Council, and first skirmish with Sauron aka the Necromancer, at Dol Guldur, into the whole Hobbit story. Originally ( assuming there's anyone who didn't read The Hobbit ...really ? ) Gandalf rides off leaving Bilbo to deal w/ the Dwarves on his own. It's that part of the story not told in The Hobbit that has stretched out 1 movie into 3.

To say I'm as apprehensive as I am excited...well. They ARE messing w/ canon here, by going into great detail which wasn't IN The Hobbit.

I suspect we'll see Radagast - The Brown, along w/ Gandalf The Gray and Saruman The White. I think there were 5 wizards of that order in all, but I don't recall who the other 2 were.

From the trailer I've already seen, Thorin looks a bit younger than I'd have expected. ( But I thought the same with both kings of Gondor AND Rohan, and they ended up being simply awesome ).

And no, I don't dabble in Elvish, but there's a documentary on LOTR where Liv Tyler recites one line by memory... it's about the most beautiful sounding thing in the spoken word I think I've ever heard. Maybe I'll post a clip of it, if I can find it.

Here's a sample, which is near enough...

Oh, you DID see Gollum, when the lights went out...I guess that's about as close to a cameo as we could get.

The top Nazgul, of course, The Witch King of Angmar, isn't properly IN The Hobbit, but does show up in the ad, in a middle seat. That sorta annoys me some, the more that I think about it. Reason is, if that's suppose to be some reference to the upcoming movie, then that seems flat out wrong. "Sauron" wasn't really known to be the Necromancer, though they did have their suspicions. If one of his black riders was corporeal, then that would have been a clear give away that Sauron and the Necromancer were one in the same. But in the time of Bilbo, the 9 hadn't come to power yet, as their master wasn't even all back to full strength himself. I'm just going on memory here, but the utterance by Saruman that " the 9 have risen " was of great surprise to Gandalf, in 'Fellowship'. So , the appearance of any of the Nazgul, at this stage, wouldn't make any sense.

*eta - watched it again, and it seems that folks are just dressed in general 'Middle Earth' costumes, not so much a promotion of the Hobbit, per se. One appeared to be in a giant eye ball costume, as in THE EYE of Sauron. hee hee.
