Says YOU guys. I'm looking forward to the debacle.

I'm hoping the term scandalous will be used, and nations of the UN will convene to speculate on what is wrong with our shit.

See the utter embarrassment of the world power by the shenanigans of it's own citizens, watch the global cornerstone teeter dangerously close to instability and collapse. Popcorn free with admission.

I'll love it far better than Obama's CCCP dream from his father.

And Byte - the UN are nothing more than a bunch of petty 3rd world thugs and degenerates. Their view of us is meaningless. WE fund their little Hate-America party, and that needs to end.

I can imagine being very happy, myself. Not so much over anObama win - but elated over a defeated Romney.

That, and its going to be a LOT of fun watching the rappy boy's meltdown. He's been cranking up the crazy for some time - soon, we get the full ovation!

Note to anyone - Please pity the poor, poor wittle Rappyboy. He's feeling put upon lately, what with all those facts disagreeing with what he believes.

I know, that's what makes it hilarious. I don't expect them to actually DO anything, that's why I used the word "speculate."

I am actually so tired of this whole world that America could collapse tomorrow, I could be stabbed and bleeding out in a ditch somewhere, and it would still be funny. I just don't care anymore.

I won't necessarily be disappointed, at least if Romney loses. RELIEVED, would be the best I can come up with. Definitely "grateful" for what WON'T happen because Romney (and more specifically, Ryan And The Tea Party Boys) doesn't get the power to do it.

But what nobody's seems to be noticing is that the GOP is continuing its strategy of 2010, going after statewide power. Republicans are in position to extend their recent gains among governors as they compete for seats they haven't won in a quarter-century. The numbers suggests that Republicans soon will claim 30 to 33 governorships after holding just 22 a few years ago.

Republicans have been aided by a cash advantage, with the RGA raising about twice as much as the Democratic Governors Association during this election cycle. Both sides have invested in three other states held by Democrats – Washington, New Hampshire and Montana – that are seen as too close to call.

Republicans already have the advantage among governors, holding 29 states. Victories in North Carolina and the three toss-up states could push that number to 33, the highest since the 1920s. From http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/28/2012-governors-races_n_203507
2.html
]

Having learned from the anti-choice crowd in a way, the GOP has realized that they can control a LOT in the country by focusing on governorships and state legislatures, the latter having the ability to affect Congress, given its power of redistricting. Just as the anti-choice crowd, realizing Roe v. Wade was here to stay (for a while at least), turned to all the other tactics they've employed: state laws and regulations, etc., so has the GOP realized that if they get Reublicans in power in the STATES, they can increase their power in several ways. Karl Rove may be many things, but he's not stupid, and he helped get this started in 2010:
Quote:

Republican State Leadership Committee Chairman Ed Gillespie says a $30 million effort to elect GOP party members at the state level will cause at least 10 legislative chambers to flip from Democrat to Republican in November – which could have a major impact on congressional redistricting."

“That can have an impact on the US House composition for a decade because of the redistricting process,” Mr. Gillespie, a former chairman of the Republican National Committee, said at a Monitor-sponsored breakfast for reporters on Thursday. http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Politics/monitor_breakfast/2010/0729/GOP-
targets-big-prize-in-state-elections-this-fall-redistricting
]
It worked, too:
Quote:

Most of the political world’s attention this year will be focused on the presidential race. But while the nation is watching President Obama and Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney duke it out, state legislatures will be forging their own battles -- all the more important because of the influence that state governments have had in recent years on hot-button issues ranging from voter identification to hydrofracking regulations.

This year’s state legislative contests are being shaped by a one-two punch: a historic shift of 20-plus chambers in the GOP’s direction on Election Day 2010, followed by a once-every-decade process of redistricting. In a strategic sense, the GOP timed its big 2010 gains perfectly since line redrawing has allowed the party to protect them.

But the big difference between 2010 and 2012 is the partisan split of these in-play chambers. At this point two years ago, it was plain to see that the GOP was poised for one-sided gains: 21 Democratic-held chambers were in play in our first rating, compared to just four Republican-held chambers. This meant that the Republicans could go on offense all across the nation without having to worry about playing much defense.

That partisan imbalance was historically unusual: In the previous four election cycles we handicapped, the typical ratio of vulnerable chambers between the parties was close to even. And this year, it is again.

This year, 12 Republican-held chambers are in play, compared to 10 Democratic-held chambers and two tied chambers. In the absence of a strong partisan wave, this would suggest a possible net shift of between zero and two seats in either party’s direction on Election Day. An outcome in that range would solidify -- or at most, roll back slightly -- the GOP’s gains from 2010.

How big were those gains from 2010? Very big. The GOP now controls 59 legislative chambers, the Democrats control 37 and two are tied. Nebraska has a unicameral, nonpartisan legislature. (A full breakdown of current margins in each of the state legislatures is provided courtesy of the National Conference of State Legislatures.)

If our ratings prove accurate, then even if the Democrats manage to seize a few chambers away from the Republicans in 2012, they will still find themselves far behind the GOP in overall control of chambers on Election Night, and quite possibly for more election cycles beyond that. http://www.governing.com/blogs/politics/gov-state-legislature-ratings.
html
]
Dems need to smarten up and realize how important (in some ways MORE important) state offices are to the running of our country than merely the Presidency.

The power of the states for both the GOP and anti-choice groups was evident by April of this year:
Quote:

...when legislators in 24 states, many elected in the 2010 Republican tide, passed a record 92 laws restricting abortions, according to the Guttmacher Institute, a group that conducts sexual and reproductive health research, policy analysis and public education.

The abortion rights group NARAL Pro-Choice America is tracking 235 bills in legislatures that it says would restrict abortion. The group says a dozen have passed so far this year.

Abortion opponents say they feel emboldened.

"Ohioans are fed up with regulating abortion. They want to end it," says Patrick Johnston, a family physician from Zanesville who is leading a petition drive to get a "personhood" amendment on November's state ballot.

"We have seen more anti-abortion legislation in this General Assembly than any time that I can remember," said Sandy Theis, spokeswoman for Healthy Families Ohio, a coalition that opposes the proposed "personhood" amendment. http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/news/health/story/2012-04-25/states-ant
i-abortion-legislation/54538866/1

We need to get our shit together and focus on more than just the Presidency and Congress if we're to protect our civil rights, dammit!

Tit for tat got us where we are today. If we want to be grownups, we need to resist the ugliness. If we each did, this would be a better reflection on Firefly and a more welcome place. I will try.

Yes, and it makes ME sick at heart, Byte. Imagining the day when our elections come under scrutiny like the nations we abhor for their corrupt elections isn't something I could conceive of looking forward to with glee, I'm sorry. I happen to love my country, fucked-up as it is, and I love democracy. What I've seen happening this year and last election just make me want to vomit, and infuriate me beyond words. I'm truly saddened that you take such joy in the thought of losing your freedom like this. Yeah, democracy is a lousey way to run a country, but that you would imagine that kind of corruption as BETTER blows my mind.

I'm about to join the food stamp party! How many people you know own their own house free and clear, yet can't acquire a job that can pay their groceries and heat bills?

There's got to be a word that does the pending situation more justice than "horribly". I think most of us would already use that word today.

Totally expected. The money boys were sure Romney was gonna make it all better to play by severely fewer financial rules, but uh, WRONG.

Again - showing a complete lack of knowledge on what the stock market is even about.

example ? Coal futures are down because, as Obama said, he'd bankrupt the industry. ( Bankrupt coal fired power plants, specifically, I recall )

But coal is bad ! And Obama is good ! YAY!!

Idiots.

One of many factors. Deregulation is a favourite trick of Rethuglicans to get money moving, and it works, just not in a way that helps many but the rich.
The money boys wanted the go ahead to do a lot of things, including dirtier power. Short term is their vision, get rich by 40 & retire- let the poor schleps next in line do the clean up & restructuring. Long term means fewer insanely nuevo rich, so of course Obama is not their guy.

Deregulation - as if ONLY Obama can keep everyone in line, and that if Mitt were elected, it'd be a complete free for all, no strings attached ?

It's sad that you may actually believe that nonsense.

You know, I hear about people complaining that regulations are killing coal all the time. But I've heard the CEO of Rocky Mountain power (who deals primarily in coal) say that it's not the coal regulations killing coal. It's that coal is simply becoming obsolete. Coal power plants are so outdated that even if regulations went back 20 years, most of them would still be closed and decommissioned in 5 to 10 years. They're old, they're breaking down, maintenance and upkeep is a bitch, and they can't keep up with electricity demands. There's not much reason to build new coal plants, and not much reason to fix up old ones.

If you'd ever like to have an adult conversation on the matter, by all means, let me know.

What you're doing here ? That ain't it.
