KPO

Sometimes you own the libs. Sometimes, the libs own you.

Howdy all, I'm proud to say that the predictions thread has been a successful experiment, or an interesting one at least, and I plan to wrap it up with a 'Top 10' list of the best and worst predictions of the year, to be posted in RWED in the coming days/weeks (depending on when I get the free time)

But more than just announcing that fact, I wanted to ask people here who are at least mildly interested to read through the thread and offer me their own thoughts/opinions on what they think the best/worst predictions have been. But not to do so in this thread; I want to keep the process both suspenseful and unsusceptible to any kind of groupthink... So could I ask people to please PM me any opinions they have?

Hopefully this way the lists will be better-informed, and not just my own opinion.

Here's the fabled thread, happy reading

That Obama would win. I'm not sure if that's best or worst because it was extremely blatantly obvious. But it belongs SOMEWHERE on the list.

It's kinda too soon to tell, but I doubt Egypt, Libya OR Iraq will have a functioning stable democracy in 5-10 years. In the very least they don't seem to be on track for that.

Also nothing much has changed, but that was an easy bet.

Quote:

Dreamtrove thinks the US currency is headed for a massive collapse, "but not yet".

Frem thinks there is an "unfolding epic disaster" in Libya.

Depends on what DT meant, the fiscal cliff is actually not that scary, I'm sure DT means whether the debt issue will come back to bite us.

Frem was/is correct. Also about Occupy not gaining much ground.

Quote:

Auraptor jokingly suggests that Egypt will ban alcohol, following the Muslim Brotherhood's election win.

Partially right, alcohol has only been banned during the four holy holidays (one of which, Ramadan, is a month long).

Quote:

And he discusses the possibility that the Egyptians could cover up the great pyramids, or even destroy them.

But this was wrong.

Byte - Organ donation will increase

#1 This is a very long term thing, that doesn't actually have to do with Obamacare. Basically the problem here is that the entire country is aging and birth rates are falling, and in order to support several programs - medicare, medicaid, and social security - you have to have a larger work force than there are people over 65. Which the correlation is trending downward, and it's going to keep trending downward - no baby boom for us. So the trend is that by the time people my age retire, there won't be any money left in the pie for them.

#2 I don't remember the context of this, but it sounds like a safe bet as well. The entire population is aging and while some relief is being seen on the obesity issue for younger kids, in the middle we have a whole bunch of unhealthy people who could die, but their organs might still be viable. Also accidents, wrecks, and DWI will play a role.

Actually not predictions so much as problems and trends people have already recognized.

Quote:

DT - Obama will trounce Romney, but it won't be a real world event. It's a staged theater event. Romney isn't trying to win, he's trying to convince people that there is an axis of opposition to Obama that is 97% Obama, whom he works for, and that the other 3% is called "Obama should be more pro-corporate police state than he already is if that's even conceivably possible" a message that Obama wrote because he wants to move in that direction, and wants the republicans to pull him that way. Because Obama is Bush is Clinton, it's all the NWO as Bush Sr. said.

Actually true.

Quote:

And, the thread is degrading from predictions to consipiracy theories....great.

Sorry Storymark.

Quote:

the Israel-firsters and the likudnik asshats over there are less than pleased with Obama not hopping to their tune on command and have started throwing in behind Romney since they think he's more gullible and bendable, and when his campaign finally implodes there's a substantial chance that might pry our political crowd an inch or too offa practically fellating the bastards.

Kinda!

Quote:

If Obama wins the right-wing knives will come out for Mitt Romney very quickly.

Yep.

Oh, another good one, and there's still time for this prediction to make the 2012 experiment.

There was a post recently about that there might be a nuclear terrorist/false-flag attack in New York on 12/25/12.

I didn't really think it was going to happen. Frem and CTS managed to show me there's a legitimate threat, but it might have been prevented by a leak to the fringe tactic.

My lamenting the inclusion of a whacked out comspiracy theory wasn't an actual prediction, Byte...

I was more apologizing because I felt a driving need to re-post a conspiracy theory I actually believe in, and because I knew you would not appreciate it.
