Can't deny it, I love the chaos of a good storm, and this looks to be a doozy!
Here is my attempt at a photo blog.

Friday Feb 8, 8 AM

4 pm: things are getting more interesting.

And the final result - not as crazy as I hoped!

Looks pleasantly calm so far. Only sign of impending chaos: that chair.

LOL! Poor chair. It's been through a lot lately...

I'll add pictures to the OP as things change. It's been snowing steadily, but pretty wet stuff still. Not piling up much.

I did a last trip out for groceries, and timed it perfectly. I pulled into the parking lot of Trader Joe's just when they opened the door at 9 AM and this big ole mob started squeezing in. The lot was almost full, the shelves tending toward empty. But my shopping needs are simple - by 9:15 I was back in my car with $120 of frozen food. And some beer, of course.

Long long lines for gas. I'm on E but can get to work without a car, so I skipped that mess. So it looks like I'm all set.

BTW, I've been following a thread on wunderground...

...and last night one outlying model (NAM) was predicting up to 4 feet of snow in the north of NYC area. Which is me. This model seems to be less of an outlier this morning, depending on which poster you believe.

Bring it on!

(lol @ chair chain)

The chair broke up with the table, by which I mean it forcibly threw itself backwards from unwanted table hug. The chair has been sitting there ever since, contemplating where the dream went wrong.

But the table is involved with all the other chairs, and doesn't care.

4 feet? Wow. That really is a blizzard. We had 2 feet here in a day about a month ago, but 4 feet is crazy.

Hey, whattaya know - the second "Storm of the Century" in as many months!

At this rate, they're going to have to start calling extreme weather events "Tuesday".

Well.... that's not a likely forecast, but it'd be cool, in a way. (I do enjoy chaos.) I can't imagine what 4 foot of snow would look like around here!

I don't what kind of tawdry business has been going on next door, but you can see the result:

Tawdry, tawdry chairs. It's like they spent a night of debauchery and just fell asleep where exhaustion dropped them. Won't they be surprised when they wake up completely embedded in snow?

I hope the President will finally address Snow Control in the State of the Union.

It's not that we need to emliminate Snow, we just need to restrict it. The President loves snow, throws snowballs at Camp David all the time. Nobody is talking about eliminating snow for people who like to use snow for recreational purposes. But surely, for the children, we can all agree that snow should not be generally available or at the least the amount of snow should be restricted to ten inches or less. Nobody needs more then ten inches of snow. Twenty or thirty inches is just too dangerous.

I'm also hoping the President will also address Hurricanes. I'm fairly certain that if Congressional Republicans would only grant him the power he needs then the President, seeing the approaching storm surge, could simply go to the beach and command the tide to roll out. Yes, I know its been tried before, but Canute was not the elected leader of the free world and did not have nearly the support of the African American Community that the President has.

Poor little Hero. Still trying the same old strawman. See, the difference is, guns are made for just one thing: to kill.

Snow, on the other hand, has many purposes. Skiing, sledding, cat entertainment, an excuse to put on my AWESOME moonboots:

And of course there's artistic expression - honoring my fellow RWED'ers by building their snowman twins. Like this one, of "Hero":

Update: snow is piling up a bit now. My cat is out in it, little bastard. I did a walk-around looking for him, but he won't come in till he's good and ready. I hate it when he makes me worry!

I bought those after our Halloween storm last year, and then it didn't snow again all winter. :(

Very cool. We never get more that the lightest smattering of snow every 10 years or so, and never in the city.

One of these days, I'd love to expience a real blizzard, in a cosy warm cabin with a fire and lots to eat of course.

Mal4Prez,

thanks for sharing the cat videos! Adorable! And that does look like a lot of snow.

Reminded me of a German children's song, actually, about a cat in the snow.

But the most important question: how did the orgy chairs fair??

What a great cat. I appreciate the videos.

All of my cats hated the stuff from back when I lived in the snow belt. They'd put a paw down in it, shake it off and double back in through the door as fast as they could.

I love the chairopera, who knows what will ensue next! little chairs will start appearing, with vague resemblences to the full grown ones I expect. I always enjoy Mal4's coverage of storms in her area. When I was a kid, and still a little today though not as much, I loved the live coverage on the news of any weather event, I think in an alternate universe I would have become the live reporter who broadcasts from the middle of it all in mid storm. I think maybe Mal4 might have too.
