Sometimes you own the libs. Sometimes, the libs own you.

Who told you she was ours, or anyone's brain on AGW?

It's not personal. It's just war.

I posted an article recently about how despite the extremely cold temperatures in temperate zones the arctic is currently pretty mild at 50 degrees in a number of places, and that this could be because the arctic ocean in the summer and fall is warm enough to create a lot of vapour in the air when winter sets in.

This causes record snowfall in Siberia (normally cold, but a desert that doesn't really get much snowfall), and which forces the jet stream down into temperate zones, producing a frigid blast.

No one cared, not even the global warming supporters. *shrug*

Frankly I try to avoid commenting on whether a short term regional weather system has anything to do with anything. Weather is complicated, and difficult to make any inference about on a global or climate level.

Perhaps you missed it, but following the discussion of the blizzard and blaming THAT on global warming, the news anchor ( CNN ) queried if perhaps global warming was in any way related to the approach of the impending asteroid headed our way.

There has to be plenty of ways she could have segued from the blizzard to the story of the asteroid, but she simply could not get away from the AGW mantra, and how it MUST be the cause for all things bad and scary.

( A longer clip shows a slightly confused Bill Nye, trying to assess if the anchorette was kidding, and if not, how to politely gloss over her colossal idiocy. )

I am unable to watch clips at work, but I can help clear up part of this.

No. It's not.

And I can only hope she was joking.

There's nothing in her delivery which indicates she was joking, at all.

It reminds me of the tabloid headlines, which predicted dire weather consequences , here on Earth, as a result of the Shoemaker-Levy 9 impact... with JUPITER.

But this was CNN, and not some 2 bit tabloid magazine at the grocery store checkout line.

And this was Fox, and "not some 2 bit tabloid magazine at the" - Oh, wait. Yup, pretty much a two-bit tabloid after all.

Much respect for Bill Nye. All the feels.

It's okay Bill. The desk has a big enough dent in it. Take some tylenol, and be at ease.

As a fellow scientist, I share his pain, and would like to speak out against the logic bombs that popular media likes to hit us with. A forced mental reboot due is never a fun experience.

And can we really blame the CNN anchorette ? I mean, with all those sweet French benefits she's got with the job, maybe she deserves some slack.

Saw the 1st video, ignored the Left wing commentary. Lots of talks about subsidies, and the failed returns in ' clean' energy.

Germany is a lot smaller country than the US, and their energy demands are no where near on par as a country our size.

But, you're wrong in that it was FOX and Friends who claimed that Germany gets lots more sun. It was their guest , from FOX Business, who said it. No clue as to what Joshi was trying to say, but it does seem absurd to claim that Germany has " lots more sun ", as she put it.

Still, there's no real direct comparison to what the ANCHOR of CNN actually said, and what some guest said, in a quick wrap up of the segment.

As for Bill Nye and the moon..., again, another clumsy attempted comparison. The anchor was trying ( poorly ) to connect the issue of volcanic activity to a rise in the temperature here on Earth. Not volcanoes on the MOON, but volcanoes here.

Bill even goes on to say that the science, the geology that goes on on Venus , Earth and the Moon, is all the same stuff happening. So, in a sense, the answer is yes, we can look at the volcanic activity of other planets to learn about our own, but NOT that volcanoes on the Moon causes global warming here.

Nice try, but still a whiff on your part.

Not real sure what your point is here, other than the childish need to claim " Oh yeah, but FOX does it too ! ", which is totally irrelevant to the issue I posted.

PS - I will add that , much like the CNN clip, the anchor talking to Bill Nye here is trying to tie in one really cool find to something which does get far too much attention here, and that's the issue of AGW. All that proves is that those who run the media are less concerned w/ the science of that find, and more driven to make things topical and relatable to the vieweres, in this sound bite age we have. Nye could have easily gone on for several minutes more on the interesting details about the moon's geology, but it's clear from the clip that the producers were in the anchor's ear, telling him to wrap it up and get to commercial.

Another reason why I loathe cable news shows these days. They try to cater to so many, while offering so little.
