You honestly think actual policy enacted by politicians is comparable to actions by individuals, reprehensible as they may be?

And I'm just going to voice my doubt here that sexist, disturbing behavior toward women by individuals is limited to liberal politicians, or "HuffPost contributors". Seriously.

Trying to spin this into a liberal "war on women" is incredibly lazy.

So, no admonishment of what this dirtbag said, huh? First reply MUST be " Yeah, but the Right ... "

Crassic.

And which policies are so " anti-women " ?

Opposing free birth control ? Or late term abortions?
Please.

Anti women and the right...

Refusing the give women the vote
Allowing husbands to beat their wives
Allowing unequal pay for equal work (because women are working for "pin money")
In fact, allowing (if not downright advocating) inequality in everything from medicine and education and housing to loans and military service and sports
Being against birth control
Being against paying for birth control (while advocating for viagra coverage)
Being against abortion, of any kind, for any reason

Yes, the right has a long and glorious history... which they continue to this day... of a war on women.

Did you miss the part where I called their actions reprehensible? Or were you just determined to ignore that?

And since the right isn't just looking to restrict access to late-term abortions, and you're utterly distorting the issue of birth control, there's likely not a lot of sensible discussion possible with you.

you didn't criticize this jag off for saying a woman wants to be raped up tha a** by a brother.

No, instead you gave a broad , general brush off, with out even commenting on THIS matter. Kinda like Obama not calling the Benghazi attack " terrorism ", and instead just saying some pansy ass remark that " teortirism is bad, where ever it happens. ". No shit, Sherlock .

I see Sig whiffed to at the thread issue as well. It's only a " war on women " if real/ imagined topics concern the Right.
Got it.

Trying to pin the actions of one nutjob on all the "Left" is pathetic, even for Rappy. Throwing the "even" on the beginning of the thread title is an example of what Byte's been after. The thread title is a blatant attempt to pull hair, to start a fight before the discussion begins.

Two thumbs down on this one.

On the plus side: this thread backs my theory. RWA's do not make statements based on observations or evidence. They are driven purely by the outcome they desire. Rappy has seen the effectiveness of folks calling out the Right's "War on Women," so he figures if he makes that same accusation against the left, he will achieve the same kind of result.

He does not grok that there must actually exist evidence of an ongoing effort by the political Left to systematically strip women of their rights in order for such an accusation to be effective.

Poor Rappy.

Only, that's NOT what I did.

Filner, Weiner, Spitzer, Clinton.. It just never ends.

It's just another in a very long line of Left wingers who disparage women. The 'even' only goes to show, after all this time, how the Left continues to do one thing, yet claim the opposite.

The 'effectiveness' of a flat out, purely politically driven lie, you mean. Yes. I've seen that. So, in contrast to the Left, I'VE chosen to post FACT.

No, I don't GET that you think you've posted evidence, and I've not. In fact, you have it 180 degrees backwards.

The hyperbole of stripping women of anything should refer to the Left, not the Right.

Oh please. I was reacting to your post and its assertion that the actions of individuals constitute a "war on women". I voiced my disagreement with that along with my disapproval of those individual actions.

That you don't like my opinion makes me neither a hypocrite nor a coward. Pretending that you get to dictate my opinion or call me names, however, makes you a troll. Congratulations.

Just have a minute, but...

Isn't it interesting that examples of the Republican's Party support of women's and minorities' rights (as I've seen in other, older threads) are more than a century old?

One of the (many) things that rappy can't get his head around is that there is a difference between how people vote, and their personal actions. If dem politicians consistently VOTED against women's interests, that would indeed be a "war on women". But I'll have to leave that to the repubs, who not only insist on calling women "sluts" (ring a bell?) and practice sexual harrassment, but IN ADDITION vote against women's freedoms.

Yanno, I shouldn't have to explain this to anyone. But apparently it's necessary.

and went to the state legislatures for ratification.

Let's see... the states that didn't ratify, or rescinded their ratification, were they left-leaning?

Well, they were...
Nebraska 3/15/73
Tennessee 4/23/74
Idaho 2/08/77
Kentucky 3/16/78
South Dakota 3/01/79

The following 15 states never ratified ERA:

Alabama
Illinois
North Carolina
Arizona
Louisiana
Oklahoma
Arkansas
Mississippi
South Carolina
Florida
Missouri
Utah
Georgia
Nevada
Virginia

Clear proof the "the left's war on women??" HARDLY. More like the right's war on women. Clearer proof of rappy's unsteady grasp of reality.

This was an eye-opener for me. Years ago in some RWED thread or another I said something about the racist tendencies of the Repubs, and Rap kicked back with some Civil War/Lincoln/Repubs-freed-the-slaves argument. I had never before known that someone could rationalize their racist policies because some completely unrelated people in a completely unrelated time had used the title "Republican" for a political party that did a massively (but unrelated to the modern political era) good thing.

Rap and Geezer ignore all that the Repubs have become in the modern times. It's convenient for their denial brains, but if they really *thought* about how stupid this argument makes them look maybe they'd reconsider.

Repubs of TODAY: actively stripping rights from women, minorities, and poorer economic classes. I don't even need to present examples, because the Repubs doing this stuff aren't trying to hide it.

Hard to find legislative makeups, but many of these states had Democratic governors during the 1970s, which usually indicates a Democratic majority. I annotated your lists with either the party of the governor in office when the ERA was recinded in a state, or(for states that never ratified) the party of the governors for the decade of the 1970s. All info from Wikipedia under "list of governors of..."

I did find some info on Georgia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/134th_Georgia_General_Assembly confirming my memory that the legislature was strongly Democrat in the 1970s.

ETA: looking at the states that did ratify the ERA and did not rescind ratification, 13 had Republican governors in 1973 (the year most ratifications occurred), and 12 had Democrats.

ETA a bit more: Checking on ratification of the 19th Amendment, it appears that of the first 36 states to vote for ratification (which made it law), 23 had Republican governors during ratification, and 13 had Democrats.
