Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

After voting to shut down the federal government, members of the GOP are now at a loss to understand why there are government facility closures. When they're not claiming Obama PERSONALLY shut down this or that, they're probing into why certain federal buildings and monuments are not open. Seriously. On October 2nd House Republicans launched a probe into the closing of the federally operated World War II Monument in Washington.

Darrell Issa’s Spokesman, Frederick Hill, told Politico that Issa is “in the early stages of examining it ( http://www.politico.com/story/2013/10/house-republicans-dc-monument-cl
osures-government-shutdown-97758.html
).” “It” in this case, meaning the cause of federal facilities, like the World War II Monument, not being open. Good old Darrell Issa, Republican Chairman of House Oversight and Government Reform, needs an official probe to figure this one out...On your tax dollars, of course; fiscal responsibility at its best!

Republicans on the Senior House Natural Resources Committee are also baffled regarding the reason federal buildings are shut down. They say that they are “considering an oversight hearing in the very near future ( http://www.politico.com/story/2013/10/house-republicans-dc-monument-cl
osures-government-shutdown-97758.html
).” Two Republican lawmakers heading up that pending investigation, Doc Hastings (WA) and Rob Bishop (Utah,) are also bound and determined to figure out this mystery. Republicans Eric Cantor and Reince Priebus have both thrown fine temper tantrums for the folks at FauxNews. They’re outraged, just outraged, that the shutdown they demanded has resulted in, well, things being shut down.

They should be confused. In 2011, the last time the Republicans in Congress threatened to hold the entire country hostage if they didn’t get their way ( http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/Budget-Battle-Furloughs/2013/09/27/id
/528052?ns_mail_uid=63080677&ns_mail_job=1539407_09272013
), all federal agencies were directed to make contingency plans. The plans describe in detail how each government facility will handle a government shutdown. The US Department of Interior, which oversees the World War II Memorial, first posted the contigency plan ( http://www.wildlandfire.com/docs/2011/fed/DOI-ContigencyPlan.pdf) for facilities they manage on April 7th, 2011.

These plans have been available for the public to look at for the past two and a half years. Anyone who really wanted to know what government facility closures could happen during a shut down, could have easily accessed the information at http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/contingency-plans.

Reporters did. Federal workers did. Concerned citizens did. Apparently members of the Republican party couldn’t be bothered. Instead, they just scream to anyone who will listen that "Obama shut it down!" Personally, he called every agency and told them to shut down, that's what they're saying.

What I don't get is why they even WANT to blame Obama. They were excited about shutting down the government:
Quote:

On cusp of shutdown, House conservatives excited, say they are doing the right thing

While much of official Washington on Saturday somberly faced the likelihood of a government shutdown, the most conservative members of the House sported a different expression.

They were smiling.

“We’re very excited,” said Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.). “It’s exactly what we wanted, and we got it.”

“It’s wonderful,” said Rep. John Abney Culberson (R-Tex.), clapping his hands to emphasize the point. “We’re 100 percent united!”

“Ulysses S. Grant said, ‘Quit worrying about what Bobby Lee’s doing and let’s focus on what we are doing,’?” Culberson added. “We are focusing on what we need to do and not worrying about what the other guy is going to do. .?.?. That’s how Ulysses S. Grant won the war.”

Outside groups that lifted many of these lawmakers into office praised Saturday’s move as the kind of action that had originally drawn their support. Jenny Beth Martin, national coordinator for the Tea Party Patriots, on Saturday applauded Republicans “for their courage and their refusal to be cowed by the Senate and the president.” http://articles.washingtonpost.com/2013-09-28/politics/42481675_1_hous

Then when they shut it down, they celebrated... http://www.examiner.com/article/tea-party-celebrates-government-shut-d

And they WANT the credit...Forbes says "Republicans Must Aggressively Seek Credit For The Federal Government Shutdown" http://www.forbes.com/sites/johntamny/2013/10/01/the-republicans-must-

And think it should STAY shut down! American Thinker: “…the public is learning that most of the federal government employees are not essential, and that we can get along fine with a smaller government.”

Redstate:

The GOP only has something if it now stands its ground and demands defunding Obamacare. They must be in this to win this. It is the only way to improve their hand. A quick shutdown will do nothing but embarrass them, as it should. The fight must be to either now keep government shut down till the Democrats blink or drive from office Republicans who vote to fund Obamacare.

In the meantime, life will go on. Americans will see they really can get along without Washington’s constant, daily interference in their lives. http://www.redstate.com/2013/10/01/surprise-the-world-spins-on/]

Many conservatives think the shutdown is good for the country because government is bad. A shutdown means there won’t be any government regulations in the way of things the billionaires and giant corporations want to do: http://dailycaller.com/2013/10/01/the-damage-often-done-by-on-duty-non

So why all the cries of "Obama shut down..."? Why blaming Harry Reid and the Democrats? They wanted it, they were excited to think they might get it, they GOT IT, they think it's great and want to keep it going. And why are they so surprised things are closed? You don't think they're...uh...not being honest with us or something, do you? Nah, that can't be it...

It has been said by many, in and out of Washington, that they have no end game. No exit strategy, no agenda (hidden or otherwise).

Does it surprise you?
