I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

Halloween is over! YES!!! *pumps fist*

The costume turned out... done. It was OK, really, not a great work of sewing, but good enough, and VERY pretty! And we learned a lot.

The garden is sleeping now, except the French marigolds or whatever-the-heck they are, that have turned into garden thugs. I hate their usual color- what I think of as school bus orange.

When they self-seeded (from a seed packet I threw into the garden two years ago) they showed a lot of natural variation. There were the knee-high summer bloomers. I pulled up all of the orange-flowered ones and left the non-blooming and two yellow-flowered ones alone. Apparently, all I did was select for the humungous winter-bloomers. Those non-bloomers kept growing, and growing, and growing... most are now taller than my head. Three weeks ago, they decided to start blooming, and most of them are that horrible color. Unfortunately, both hubby and the bees decided they LIKE those plants! So I have a roughly 15'-8' patch of mystery plants, with ugly orange-ish flowers that are taller than my head, filled with bees taking advantage of the only thing blooming right now.

And did I mention that I hate that color?

My plan... heh, heh, heh... I am religiously deadheading the flowers, except the pretty yellow and saffron ones. When they're done blooming, I'll pull them out and replsce them with creeping Oregon grape, Catalina perfume, sagebrush and sage.

Of course, the seeds in the soil (hopefully from the yellow-flowered plants) will come up. It will be interesting to see what my genetics experiment turns up next year.
