long-delayed Senate intelligence committee report released on Wednesday spreads blame among the State Department and intelligence agencies for not preventing attacks on two outposts in Libya that killed four Americans, including U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens.

The bipartisan report lays out more than a dozen findings regarding the assaults on Sept. 11 and 12, 2012 on the diplomatic compound and a CIA annex in the Libyan city of Benghazi. It says the State Department failed to increase security at the sites despite warnings, and faults intelligence agencies for not sharing information about the existence of the CIA outpost with the U.S. military.

The committee determined that the U.S. military command in Africa didn’t know about the CIA annex, and the Pentagon didn’t have the resources in place to defend the diplomatic compound in an emergency.

“The attacks were preventable, based on extensive intelligence reporting on the terrorist activity in Libya—to include prior threats and attacks against Western targets—and given the known security shortfalls at the U.S. Mission,” the panel said in a statement.

The report also notes, chillingly, that the FBI’s investigation into the attacks has been hampered inside Libya, and that 15 people “supporting the investigation or otherwise helpful to the United States” have since been killed in Benghazi. The report says it is unclear whether those killings were related to the investigation.

Much of the document recounts now-familiar facts about deteriorating security conditions in Benghazi in 2012, a year after the fall of longtime dictator Moammar Gaddafi. It fills in new details about the relationship between the CIA building and the State Department compound about a mile away, and details the rising concern among many intelligence specialists about the growing potency of Islamist militants in the city.

“In spite of the deteriorating security situation in Benghazi and ample strategic warnings, the United States Government simply did not do enough to prevent these attacks and ensure the safety of those serving in Benghazi,” said Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.), vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee.

The report is based on dozens of committee hearings, briefings and interviews—including with survivors of the attacks—and on thousands of pages of intelligence and State Department materials collected between September 2012 and December 2013.

The account sheds little light on the most politicized aspect of the incident — questions about whether the Obama administration deliberately played down the terrorist origins of the attacks. The committee described the attacks as opportunistic, and said there was no specific, advance warning that they were about to be carried out.

The report says that on Sept. 18, 2012, the “FBI and CIA reviewed the closed circuit television video from the Mission facility that showed there were no protests prior to the attacks.”

But it took six more days for intelligence officials to revise their chronology of events and state “there were no demonstrations or protests” at the diplomatic compound “prior to the attacks.”

The report says it was problematic that the CIA and State Department were not working out of the same facility together in the dangerous Benghazi environment. That meant the CIA and its well-trained contractors, who had served in elite U.S. forces, were not on location at the diplomatic outpost in case of a crisis.

Six armed CIA employees and a linguist responded to the attack on the diplomatic compound, the report says. About 30 minutes passed before the CIA team arrived on the scene and “exchanged fire with the attackers.” They neither asked permission to come to the aid of the diplomats nor were told to stand down.

Detailed accounts provided to the committee describe a harrowing attack and U.S. personal scrambling to survive the assault.

Attackers used “diesel fuel to set the main building ablaze, and thick smoke rapidly filled the entire structure,” the report said. According to testimony by the director of the National Counterterrorism Center, a diplomatic security agent led Stevens, the ambassador, to an escape window at the diplomatic compound.

“Nearing unconsciousness himself, the agent opened the emergency escape window and crawled out. He then realized he had become separated from the Ambassador… so he reentered and searched the building multiple times,” the report says. “The DS agent, suffering from severe smoke inhalation, climbed a ladder to the roof where he radioed the other DS agents for assistance and attempted unsuccessfully to ventilate the building by breaking a skylight.”

The committee found that the military response to the attacks was slow and hindered, but not purposely so. “At approximately 1:15 a.m. Benghazi time, a seven-man reinforcement team of additional U.S. security personnel from Tripoli landed at the Benghazi airport and began to negotiate with the local Libyan militias for transportation and a security convoy,” the report said. The team would not leave the airport for the annex until more than three hours later.

In the weeks leading up to the attacks, the CIA knew that conditions on the ground were worsening. In August, the agency alerted the intelligence community that there were Islamist training camps and militias in Benghazi. The agency said it was concerned about local militias providing security at U.S. facilities, and about the outpost’s lack of defense.

That same month, there were 20 security incidents in Benghazi.

The report said that the Libyan militia charged with protecting the diplomatic compound didn’t defend it during the attack.

The committee’s minority criticized the White House for obstructing the report, which the committee had wanted to complete much earlier, and accused Patrick Kennedy, U.S. undersecretary of state for management, of shielding the Obama administration from Congressional oversight.

Hmm. "the State Department failed to increase security at the sites despite warnings."

At least they didn't close some lanes on a bridge.

Laughable and sad that you'd compare a complicated and coordinated covert attack on multiple sites here in the US to a open military attack on a sole US compound in Libya, following that country's civil war.

It was never about a video, and this administration KNEW it.

DEM SENATOR: NY TIMES BENGHAZI REPORT ‘DOESN’T JIBE WITH ME’

“I believe that groups loosely associated with al Qaeda were” involved in the attack, [Feinstein] told The Hill last week. “That’s my understanding.”

She also disputed the notion that the Sept. 11, 2012, assault evolved from a protest against the video, which was widely disseminated by Islamic clerics shortly before the attack.

“It doesn’t jibe with me,” she said.

Feinstein is head of the Senate Intelligence Committee.

I guess the lyrics for a song that blames Hillary for Benghazi wasn't hip enough for The Boss to perform, so he went with doing one for Christie and Bridge-Gate.

If ever there was a case for putting to song of this country cutting and running, it's Benghazi. But as it doesn't fit's cultural view of the world, they'll ignore it.

Geezer, what you will never see in your blindness is that Benghazi has been discussed and discussed to death here for how many months now, whereas the bridge thing has lost most peoples' interest already, as well as the fact that people here on the left have decried what happened in Benghazi quite clearly, as well as decrying the IRS scandal, the NSA problems, Obamacare rollout, drones, Gitmo and many other things. You live in a black-and-white world where anything "left" is just as bad as humanly possible, all those on "the left" are only what you make them out to be, and you can't see beyond that.

And you will go on and on claiming you're not right wing.

Benghazi has been dismissed as being caused by a video ( it wasn't ) or simply ' one of those things' that was caused by the GOP's cutting of funds. What hasn't been mentioned nearly enough is that this administration and Hillary in particular were grossly incompetent , at best. And most of the decrying of those other things have come from the Right, with the " Left " here dismissing pretty much all of it, out of hand, or in the case of the NSA stuff, putting most of the blame on Bush, not Obama.

Yep. And a good bit of it was excuses why it couldn't have been prevented, or why no one could do anything, or that it was no one's fault, or that it was all the Republicans' fault, or that it was just folks outraged about a video, etc.

The Senate report gives a clear picture that failings in the State Department and the intelligence community, and lack of communication between agencies, was greatly to blame.

When you consider that the head of the State Department at the time of the Benghazi attack will probably be running for president in a short while, it does seem important to mention the senate's view.

Now if someone who was in in Bush's administration with oversight of embassy security was running for president shortly, I'd expect that to be brought up as well.

Bullshit, all of it.

The ONLY reason the rightwingnuts wanted to throw more US Servicepeople under the bus was to create even more outrage when they were slaughtered by locals rather justifiably pissed off by us violating their sovereignity by using our embassy not only as a C3 center for the overthrow of the legitimate government of the country it was based in, but also torturing some of those locals in the basement till they told us what we wanted to hear, accurate intelligence be damned.

Gee, that other locals would get pissed off about it is something you don't need a useless, counterproductive and downright fuckin treasonous "Intelligence Agency" to tell you - nor is the fact that adding another platoon against THOUSANDS of Opfors would be a goddamn fart in the wind and insure their deaths as well, not that the reichwing cares about em save as political points to whinge about anyways....

And ask yourself WHO was demanding our hand-handed, invite-to-disaster, doomed-to-fucking-fail "intervention" anyways, erm-hmm ?
Why these self-same scumbag fucknuts oh so desperate to take attention from the fact that THEY pushed for this disaster, after having been TOLD it would be a disaster, out of idealogical reasons which *make no sense*, and by doing so directly themselves contributed to casualties which were INEVITABLE from the moment we got involved, as a natural course of events they were fully warned about in advance.

So take every whiner who wants to point the finger at the administration for not throwing more troops under the bus to die pointlessly and slather them with the blame for having forced the involvement, malice, and perfidy which caused those casualties in the first friggin place, cause they deserve no less.

As usual, it's all about the cowards of the reichwing denying and defying all responsibility for their own actions, so desperate to point the finger somewhere, anywhere else, that they'd condemn any number of our own troops they only pretend to care about to grisly slaughter than ever have to face up to the RESPONSIBILITY of their own actions, in perfect keeping with their sociopathic Randroid so-called-ethics.

And still, you sneer at me when I call these scum insane.

I follow your lead.

I only compare in regards to information received prior to the attack that wasn't followed up by the proper authorities. There too was failure in communication and resulted in Americans losing their lives.

Was that due to a failure by the administration at the time? Or was it due to an individual?

My point being that it's something that happened due to a breakdown in communication within the state department, the CIA and the Embassy. Of course, it's a lot more than that.

I don't sneer at you, I just think that everyone is a little insane.

Also, I out-crazy everyone, so it's hard for me to justify treating someone else poorly because they're insane, even if there's things that they say that I really don't like or agree with. Words spoken on the internet are unlikely to specifically impact anything in the real world.

If someone actually does something in the real world I disagree with, then I can take a little more rigorous action.

History is already showing what morons these people are. Even Republicans are crying foul about who is responsible for the negative turns in the middle east. Already Bush's attempt to rewrite history is being thrown back in his face. Bush's own CIA briefer is touring with his new book explaining how Bush and Cheney lied about what the CIA was saying in those briefings.

These same neocons responsible for the biggest blunder in recent history have nothing to say about that, but scream the sky is falling over four regretable deaths. What a joke.

Benghazi four dead; or Iraq hundreds of thousands of Iraqis dead, trillions of dollars lost, over four thousand Americans dead and 40,000 wounded, and creating a power vacuum that is responsible for the creation of ISIS, while turning Iraq over to the Iranians.

What da ya think?

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

That Benghazi and Syria are intertwined, and that...

The whole Mideast destabilization project is a joint project between the USA and Saudi Arabia and its hangers-on: the rest of the Gulf Cooperation Council: Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. All of the GCC nations are theocratic monarchies, which gives you an idea of their commitment to "democracy" and "our way of life". At some point, the GCC would like to fold in Jordan (another al-Qaida-loving, Sunni-licking King) Morocco (ditto) and Yemen (although it seems they would rather take that by military force)

You can't judge Benghazi in absence of other facts, otherwise it doesn't make sense.

Our State Department embassies and consulates are, in addition to their regular State Department functions, working CIA outposts. You can bet that at least half of the staff in sensitive locations (drivers, secretaries, tech people etc) have a dual job, one of which involves intelligence gathering. Our Ambassadors per se are usually "clean", but this particular guy was "highly experienced", and what I read THAT to mean is that although he was a State Department Guy through and through, he wasn't above providing active assistance to/ intell about some of the less transparent operations going on.

Including, one reads, shipping arms from Libya ("mission accomplished") to Syria (mission not yet accomplished). By all accounts Stevens was a "highly experienced ambassador, one who was at least aware of the goings-on aside from official State Department functions/ responsibilites. BUT wiki can explain this better than I

Quote:

Within months of the start of the Libyan revolution in February 2011, the CIA began building a covert presence in Benghazi. During the war, elite counter-terrorist operators from America's Delta Force were deployed to Libya as analysts, instructing the rebels on specifics about weapons and tactics. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens was named the first liaison with the Libyan opposition in March 2011.

After the end of the war, both the CIA and the US State Department were tasked with continuing to identify and collect arms that had flooded the country during the war, particularly shoulder-fired missiles taken from the arsenal of the Gaddafi regime, as well as securing Libyan chemical weapon stockpiles, and helping to train Libya's new intelligence service.

Eastern Libya and Benghazi were key intelligence-gathering hubs for intelligence operatives. Before the attack, the CIA was monitoring Ansar al-Sharia and suspected members of Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, as well as attempting to define the leadership and loyalty of the various militias present and their interaction with the Salafi elements of Libyan society. By the time of the attack, dozens of CIA operatives were on the ground in Benghazi.

In addition, it has been reported that in the summer of 2012, American Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) missions had begun to target Libyan militias linked to the Al-Qaeda network of Yasin al-Suri. By the time of the attack, a composite US Special Operations team with two JSOC members was already in Libya working on their mission profile independently of the CIA and State department operations.

Multiple anonymous sources reported that the diplomatic mission in Benghazi was used by CIA as a cover to smuggle weapons from Libya to anti-Assad rebels in Syria. Hersh cites an anonymous source among intelligence officials, saying "The consulate’s only mission was to provide cover for the moving of arms. It had no real political role."

The attack allegedly brought an end to the alleged US involvement, but did not stop the alleged smuggling. In January 2014, the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence cast doubt on this alleged U.S. involvement and reported that "All CIA activities in Benghazi were legal and authorized. On-the-record testimony establishes that CIA was not sending weapons ... from Libya to Syria, or facilitating other organizations or states that were transferring weapons from Libya to Syria."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_Benghazi_attack

Whatever specifics you believe or disbelieve about Benghazi, it was rife with CIA, JSOC, and State Department contractors. It wasn't "just" an ambassadorial outpost.

Yup. It's only the president's fault when he's black.

Racist much? Why must you insist that his faults and failures are due to his skin color?

Various Libtards claims of numerous Embassy attacks during Bush43's watch, but seems 7 is an agreed number.

Obviously all the same as Benghazi, with the Ambassador killed:
02 Karachi: Car bomb outside compound, no Americans killed.
02 Uzbekistan: suicide bomber, little damage.
04 Consulate in Saudi Arabia: no Americans killed.
06 Syria: no dead.
07 Athens: Anti Tank Grenade into an empty building.
08 Serbia: Set afire, no dead.
08 Yemen: 2 car bombs, no Embassy employees killed.

Yep, Libtards must be stoned to insist these are the same as the Ambassador being killed.
Or just the standard racism of Libtards can suffice.

It doesn't help if you run guns out of Benghazi. This wasn't about a movie (I think that was laid to rests over a year ago!) and it wasn't JUST some pointless jihadi exercise in taking a US consulate.

Still don't get it?
"Not about a movie" was known right away in September 2011, not in summer 2014. But Hilliary and Bobo had to lie to get him re-elected.

Many MSM are trying to get away with claiming "nothing new" has been found. The key here is "new" and hoping everybody will forget all these years of factual revelations which Hilliary/Obama have continually denied the truth and facts, always claiming the facts were not facts, and now that they have spent all these years denying the facts, when the facts are again put forth, they claim "nothing new" as if they have already admitted their culpability in the prior releases.
Diligently keeping their blinders on.

The following facts are among the many new revelations in Part I:

Despite President Obama and Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta’s clear orders to deploy military assets, nothing was sent to Benghazi, and nothing was en route to Libya at the time the last two Americans were killed almost 8 hours after the attacks began. [pg. 141]

The Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff typically would have participated in the White House meeting, but did not attend because he went home to host a dinner party for foreign dignitaries. [pg. 107]

A Fleet Antiterrorism Security Team (FAST) sat on a plane in Rota, Spain, for three hours, and changed in and out of their uniforms four times. [pg. 154]

None of the relevant military forces met their required deployment timelines. [pg. 150]

The Libyan forces that evacuated Americans from the CIA Annex to the Benghazi airport was not affiliated with any of the militias the CIA or State Department had developed a relationship with during the prior 18 months. Instead, it was comprised of former Qadhafi loyalists who the U.S. had helped remove from power during the Libyan revolution. [pg. 144]

Huma Abedin’s Emails Confirm HlLLARY Was Complicit In MURDER OF AMBASSADOR STEVENS
February 23, 2017

I want to preface this article by stating that this work has been updated 3 times in 10 hours. Information is coming out Wikileaks and other sources faster than any of us can keep up with.
Wikileaks is about to confirm the story that The Common Sense Show told 4 years ago in that Ambassador Stevens was set up to die because his stories of gun-running, child trafficking and drug-running on behalf of the CIA in order to promote regime change in Libya using terrorists funded by these illegal activities, were leaking out and it was only a few months until the election. Subsequently, Ambassador Stevens had to be silenced. And Petraeus had to be put in a place where he was not forced to testify before Congress because he could not take the 5th before Congress
At the same time, Clinton was broadcasting Stevens whereabouts and she refused to provide the extra protection Stevens was so desperately requesting. Being that Stevens was working for the CIA, then head of the CIA, David Petraeus, would have known about Chris Stevens activities. To protect Obama’s 2012 election, both Stevens and Petraeus had to be gone.
People are asking me how I knew all of this four years ago and I say, “I had a deep cover source from inside one of the military/intelligence services who wanted the real truth to be told. Somebody who knew this nation could not afford to let Clinton ever become President”. Now, I am getting confirmation from Wikileaks and others who have reached the same conclusion I did four years ago.
Dear Mr. Hodges,
This is to inform you that Wikileaks will soon, or has released Clinton emails which will demonstrate the following:
hjjhhjhj
Please note that I have covered the ISIS/Lafarge/Clinton connections very prominently in the past year. This is just more confirmation of what I have already covered.
The above is already appearing on the Internet in several places. It is clear that Putin would be a fool to allow Clinton and her gang of thugs to continue with their plan. Every time Clinton sags in the polls, she starts talking about 9/11. The evidence is beginning to line up that Clinton interests had motive to commit 9/11. No wonder Clinton tries to blame the Russians for everything, she is the main culprit on the world being brought to the precipice of World War III.
It is a gratifying feeling when the dots start to connect.
The Aaron Klein Revelations
Aaron Klein, the Breitbart Bureau Chief for Jerusalem revealed, in a Breitbart publication dated March 1, 2016, revealed that “the email from April 10th, 2011, the State Department employee, Timmy Davis, forwarded an email to the server by Clinton’s aide, Huma Abedin.” Please note that the time of this revelation, Huma Abedin, was not yet a household name.

DREAMTROVE

Preventing Benghazi:

You could start with not ordering the attack.
Or before that, not have a horrible crime you need to cover up.
Or never commit the crime in the first place.

Sy Hersh covered this one in detail.
https://www.lrb.co.uk/v36/n08/seymour-m-hersh/the-red-line-and-the-rat
-line

Most of the details below are in the article. I've filled in with what we've learned since from Wikileaks. For background, see Seymour Hersh's earlier pieces on JSOC.

1) Gaddafi surrendered his chemical weapons to the US consulate in Benghazi
2) Obama appointed Hillary Clinton aka HRC Secretary of State
3)Obama transferred JSOC* to her command & gave JSOC access to all US military resources.
4) HRC placed Al Nusra and Al Sharia under JSOC command. Both are Sunni extremists.
5) HRC asked each of the 4 Benghazi staffers to transfer weapons to Al Nusra
6) Three said no, one said yes, the weapons were transferred
7) Ansar al-Sharia then attacked the consulate, killing all 4 americans (aka witnesses)
8) HRC lied about, Obama either lied or was misled, Susan Rice lied to congess.
9) Al Nusra killed 1500 civilians with the weapons to frame Assad
10) UN investigated and found this to be an obvious relocate** frame job
11) Al Nusra killed 15000 civilians in gas attack, sparking a border war killing over a million
12) Al Nusra joined ISIS, and was aided by the US, Isreal and Turkey
13) Lebanon aided Assad through Hezbollah. Later Russia through Sevastopol
14) HRC concocts plan to overthrow*** democratic govt of Ukraine to capture Sevastopol****
15) 97% of Crimea votes to secede, taking Sevastopol with them.
16) Under US orders, Ukraine to invade Crimea, Russia annexes Crimea, wins.
17) The US/ISIS lose the Syrian war as a result, ISIS goes rogue.
18) New Yorker refuses to run Sy Hersh story because "It might hurt Hillary's election"
19) Hersh publishes in Al Jazeera, only FOX notices, left dismisses as conspiracy theory.
20) Details appear in emails posted to wikileaks confirming the story.
21) Turkish militants who took Benghazi weapons to Al Nuzra confess their part, implicate HRC.

* JSOC arms foreign militias, aka terrorists, to fight our proxy wars.
** when bodies are move to a new location after death to make it appear they died there.
*** Brennan, McCain and Kerry carry out the installation of WWII era Nazis (National Socialist Party of Ukraine), which committed 1/4 of the holocaust, killing 1/5 million Jews and 250,000 Christians.
**** Sevatopol, a Russian base in Crimea since 1700s. Crimea gained autonomy in 1994.

And that would be why we didn't vote for her.
If didn't know, and voted for her, don't worry, you didn't know.

Keep the Shiny side up.

As long as the sore losers are still trying a revolution, it's still relevant, because Hillary is what not Trump was, and if you want to throw out the election, that's what you're throwing out, you're saying, yeah, we want ISIS.

That's why it's worth making a point: It's okay if you didn't know when you pulled the lever. It's not okay to not know now. It's just ignorance.

And that's impeachable. If Trump pulls something like that, I will write a letter to recommend impeachment myself.

Do you watch Jimmy Dore, DT?

If you don't, I think you would enjoy his show on youtube. I don't agree with everything he says, but often times it's the way you say things that are more important. He's the type of guy that says his arguments and opinions in a way where you don't feel like you're being insulted if you disagree with them. He's the type of guy that has made me stop and re-evaluate my own positions on certain issues from time to time.

He is far too left on certain issues for my tastes, but at the same time he knows when we're being manipulated and lied to, and isn't afraid to say it out loud even when it's coming from his own "side".

You remind me of him. Right down to your vote for Jill Stein. And I'm willing to bet that your reasons for doing so were very much the same as well.

I'd already votd for Gary Johnson, and he was coming about and saying a vote for him was a vote for weed, and i didnt' want to say that with my vote. I went with Stein as a protest vote for the environment.

I always look at candidates to make sure they're not lunatics. I only have voted for two people I'd actually like to have as president. Ralph Nader and Cynthia McKinney. I'd have voted for Ron Paul if he could have won the primary. I don't consider the election of Trump to be a disaster. time may prove me wrong, but random internet trolls or mob protestors won't.

No way I was going to vote for HRC, but I live in New York, one of the least swingy states in the union. my vote never counts.

Yeah, he can be as opinionated as any of us, but I like how he just speaks a lot of common sense and is quick to point out bullshit when it comes from his side. It makes me listen when he points out bullshit from the other side as well.
