Quote:As the Republican National Committee’s 3-day winter meetings drew to a close today, the calls for Michigan committeman Dave Agema to resign over comments seen as insenstive to gays and Muslims grew to a roar. Adding their voices to the call were top Republicans: RNC Chairman Reince Priebus and state Party Chairman Bobby Schostak told the Free Press they want him out, as did state Attorney General Bill Schuette and Agema’s colleague on the RNC, former Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land, who is running for the U.S. Senate. They join six Republican members of the state’s congressional delegation who already asked him to quit. “What is best for the party, and is best for Dave, is that he resigns,” said Land, who, like the rest, had denounced his comments and postings on Facebook but previously declined to call for his resignation. This week, however, Agema missed the policy and rule-setting meetings in Washington, calling into question his ability to serve effectively going forward. Schuette said he spoke with Agema and encouraged him to step down. In a joint statement, Priebus and Schostak said simply, “For the good of the party, we believe Dave Agema should resign.” One prominent politician who has repeatedly declined to call for Agema’s resignation is Gov. Rick Snyder. While pointedly calling for more civility and inclusion in politics and denouncing Agema’s comments, he told the Free Press on Friday that the party chairmen are “the appropriate parties that ought to be addressing the issue.” Former Republican National Committeewoman and party chair Betsy DeVos issued a statement soon after Priebus and Schostak released theirs. She said the two chairmen “demonstrate real character and leadership in calling upon Mr. Agema to resign.” Agema’s problems accelerated after DeVos came out publicly against him on Sunday and the Free Press reported that Agema had become a thorn in the side of a party looking to expand its base. http://www.freep.com/article/20140124/NEWS06/301240071/Dave-Agema-resignation-GOP

Traditional marriage is where it should be and that is in our platform. So people that are opposed to me that issue within our party are wrong." http://www.myfoxdetroit.com/story/24224537/let-it-rip-weekend-agemas-anti-gay-comments-right-to-work-as-slavery#ixzz2rMuZI0gM
