The Disney Channel introduced its first-ever gay couple on the popular family series Good Luck Charlie in a groundbreaking episode Sunday.

"This particular storyline was developed under consultancy of child development experts and community advisors," a spokesperson said this week. "Like all Disney Channel programming, it was developed to be relevant to kids and families around the world and to reflect themes of diversity and inclusiveness."

Hundreds of the show's fans went online to welcome the controversial development, which was also met with the obligatory backlash from critics. American Family Association’s One Million Moms (who are not even close to that number), who had sent out a hysterical email when the episode was first announced, has made an online petition urging parents to email advertisers to pull their ads ( http://www.webpronews.com/disney-show-angers-one-million-moms-with-gay
-couple-2014-01). I guess they didn’t realize that the show has only one more episode to go.

Their minions – and other bigots — took to Twitter and displayed their usual intolerance:

They obviously also don't know that Disney Parks’ Gay Days — which they have hosted since 1991 — have become one of the largest gay pride events in the world. It is estimated that over 150,000 attend this event at the company’s parks, worldwide. The Disney Company is recognized by Diversity Inc. as one of their “25 noteworthy companies.” Not only is the company gay-friendly, but it extends its diversity from the boardroom to management to the lowliest street sweeper.

I guess ignorance is bliss...among other things. Maybe some should give a bit of thought to their kids' education and learn to spell, before screaming about "holsum" entertainment... Just a thought.

I remember the time Disney Studios pissed of the Right-wingers by extending insurance benefits to all partners of its staff, regardless of sexuality. Recognizing that a large percentage of creative people-- artists, writers, designers, actors and musicians--, the folks who work for Disney, are gay. Include 'em all in the family, help take care of 'em all.

Ther are other things to be unhappy with Ol' Walt, and his company, about, but that's not one of them .
