Russia is moving (has moved?) to take full military control of Crimea: blocking in a Ukrainian naval base with a sunken Russian ship, blockading military posts still loyal to the Kiev government, etc.

The West seems content to respond with economic/political sanctions, and a lot of bluster. The thinking is prolly to let Russia have the Crimea as a form of border security. The government in Kiev, OTOH, seems to want to ramp things up. They have been consistently calling out the Russians, claiming one thing after another- only some of it true. Now they're taking things one step further:

Ukraine's Military Mobilizes, Prepares For Combat: Trucks, APCs, SAMs, Tanks Rolling Out

We have all been lucky so far that troops have not actually fired at each other. However, if the Kiev government shoots first and the Russians shoot back, we may ALL become involved in a war thru a series of interlocking alliances.

Oh, and in case you didn't know, about a week ago the Russians test-fired an ICBM....

Not I. I find that question very odd to ask.

Just pointing out the very obvious and " unfortunate " optics , is all.

They happened in the same week. One followed the other. I never CLAIMED one had anything to do w/ the other, directly, so your " paranoia " remark is a bit... curious ?

Not sure what you mean w/ that last sentence. I get a reaction and I think it represents our national interest ?

Siggy, I think one reason for Obamas deliberately empty "bluster" is the fact that this bullshit was set in motion by NeoCon pricks within the State Dept without any actual approval, Congressional or Executive.

So while he has to pay the lip-service from a national-pride aspect, given that Putin is stuck cleaning up OUR dangerous, fucked up mess, he's not gonna push any confrontation about it, oh hell no - maybe show the flag by passing a few ships across the area, but that's about it.

He might have to play the game publicly, but given that a buncha fuckin jackboot lickin NeoCons went off the rails and tried to start WWIII on his watch, I bet privately he'd be happy as a clam if Putin curbstomped the whole damn thing.

Of course, that still leaves the question about what to DO about them treasonous motherfuckers, and honestly my best answer to that is "dragged out back and shot", cause they deserve no better.

Umm, you *DO* realize that the NeoCons actually started out as Democrats to begin with, and if you wanna lay blame, lay it on Henry "Scoop" Jackson, cause they pre-date even the flaming idiocy of Reagan-Bush.
They're not a partisan faction, but a cancer infecting both ends of the political spectrum who serve only themselves and a ridiculous, suicidal agenda.

But of course, they only offend YOU when they're not on your "side".
Which is what happens when "side" becomes more important than right and wrong.

Which is one of the reasons imma freakin Anarchist, you know.

Ditto.

Although I don't think this is a reflection of Obama, but of the DEEP STATE that Frem is glancingly referring to, and which has been called out specifically.

It's been said before... it doesn't matter who votes for what, as long as the right contracts get signed and the right checks flow out (think of our bank bailouts, which started flowing before Congress took a vote, much of which was hidden in "secret loans and payments" even after the program was defined. Also think Special Ops, US AID, and the alphabet security agencies.) the rich and powerful continue floating on their ripple-free stream. And everything stays the same for TPTB, only the peons have to pay. Congress, sometimes even the President... all window-dressing.

What's that??? Oh... that's the sound of the first legal war we will have engaged in since I've been old enough to vote.

It's also the most dick-hole war that we could get into now.

If ever there was a time to make friendly with Russia and all of Europe. Even Africa and South America.

Die hard Muslims aren't fucking around people.

We're not talking about your friend's parents down the block that have lived here for 20 years and made a life for themselves. We're talking about people who live in a land that's so free of anything worthwhile to live for that finding kids willing to strap bombs to themselves is easier than trying to sucker some geezer with an email scam stateside.

The true believers hate us. They actually HATE us, with every fiber of their being, all in the name of their God.

Having never been on the brunt end of that collective hatred, I can only imagine how bad that is. As worthless as our Government is in many areas, I do have to say it's nice that there hasn't been a Muslim uprising here yet.

In the end, US citizens and even the government officials are "civilized".

With ZERO evidence to the contrary, I would never say that our Russian friends are any less civilized, even given our on-again/off-again relationship.

Awwww... who am I kidding. When my Irish fore-fathers came here and couldn't get a job because INNA, well a whole lot of fists were thrown.

Stepping sideways a bit... one of the reasons I think the ME countries hate drones so much - it's not because innocent people get killed because that happens all the time, but because it doesn't require faith and fire, doesn't require commitment or the willingness to die for the faith. It demeans their entire value system of honor and passion. Anyway, its as if we're REALLY fighting an asymmetric war: Honor killing versus modern automated efficient killing. I think their value system is screwed up, but so is ours.

How people are fooled ... at the end, I'll explain why this article is wrong.

Is US Losing The New Cold War?

Quote:

If there is a new cold war with Russia, many observers believe the U.S. is losing it.

First under President George W. Bush and now under President Obama, the U.S. and Vladimir Putin’s Russia have engaged in a series of foreign policy battles — and Putin has repeatedly got his way.

The Russian president’s objective is clear. He wants to reassert Russia’s influence in Eastern Europe while preventing NATO’s further expansion toward Russia, said Erik Brattberg, a resident fellow at the Atlantic Council.

Diplomatic fights over Syria in 2013 and Russian’s military clash with Georgia in 2008 have given Putin confidence in the current fight over Russia’s invasion of Crimea, a region in eastern Ukraine with long ties to Moscow.

“He's counting that there would be no significance response from the U.S. and the European Union and so far he’s been right,” Brattberg said.

Lawmakers and experts across the political sphere warn that if the Obama administration and its western allies are not effective in dealing with Putin this time, it could have serious consequences going forward.

And the dangers go beyond Putin.

China is closely monitoring what’s going on, Brattberg said, and could become more assertive in territorial disputes with its neighbors if it sees the West back down from Russia.

Of particular concern is a small group of islands in the South China Sea that both China and Japan claim, he said. If China were to use military force against Japan, the U.S. would be contractually bound to defend it.

Here's where the article is wrong: in the years since the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 and the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, Germany has been reunified under western control, Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia were broken up, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia were all admitted into the EU, and the unified Germany, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland, Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Albania and Croatia all became members of NATO, bringing western capitalist-controlled areas right up tho Russia's border in most places. Now the west is in a hissy-fit because Russia is responding???

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

Russia doesn't want Ukraine and has absolutely no interest in acquiring it as territory.

And why WOULD Russia want Ukraine? Ukraine is a broken, bankrupt country, already sucked dry by the west and the corrupt minions in government and business the west put in place after it engineered a coup ('fuck the EU' Nuland). And Ukraine has no redeeming natural resources, no remaining industry or infrastructure to speak of, no fuel for heat in winter, and is full of actual Nazis. It's sole purpose in life is to now provide endless cheap labor to the rest of Europe, because people are fleeing the hellhole that is now Ukraine in droves.

But facts and simple logic haven't stopped 'The Narrative' by the m$m.

So now not only is Russia being warned about attacking Ukraine (as if that'll happen), it's being warned about moving troops within its own borders to counter the US/ NATO/ EU buildup in the Black Sea.

Note: As claimed by 'The Narrative', ACTUAL RUSSIAN AGGRESSION AGAINST UKRAINE NEED NOT OCCUR FOR THE US/ NATO/ EU TO CLAIM THE 'RIGHT' TO 'RESPOND' TO ... NOTHING. And that claim's found in the 'news' everywhere.

Quote:

Those US claims are all over CNN:
"It's now on Russia to deescalate the current tensions by reversing the recent troop buildup, returning forces to normal peacetime positions, and refraining from further intimidation and attempts to destabilize Ukraine" Blinken said at a press conference at the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe summit.
https://lite.cnn.com/en/article/h_dac4ee9a7374e74db1106ea05abb2ba0
Russia is forbidden to move troops in response to a buildup of US/EU/NATO troops on its border. Or do anything at all that could possibly be framed as 'intimidation' or 'destabilization', apparently. Or else.

But what about AP and Reuters, part of the triumvirate that includes AFP, where most western international and national news is concocted? Why go to random mouthpieces like the NYTimes, MSM, and CNN when you can go to the source?

Quote:

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken met face-to-face with his Russian counterpart on Thursday to demand Russia pull back troops from the border with Ukraine ... Fears that Russia would invade its neighbor or seek to undermine the government ...

No actual attack needs to occur for the US/ EU/ NATO to claim a 'right' to respond militarily.

British foreign minister Liz Truss pledged on Wednesday to stand "with Ukraine" against Russian aggression, saying London was discussing with NATO allies other measures to take to prevent any incursion.

The US/ EU/ NATO seem to think they have a right to increase troops an Russia's borders, but Russia has no right to respond.

https://www.reuters.com/world/prepare-sanctions-russia-ramp-up-militar

An actual invasion isn't needed for the west to 'respond'.

The European Union must be prepared to enact more sanctions against Russia if the situation in and around eastern Ukraine or on the Belarus-Poland border escalates, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Thursday.
https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/russian-aggression-against-ukrain
e-should-lead-eu-sanctions-merkel-2021-11-25
/
How about expanding your threats, Merkel?

So here we have it ... non-specific, shifting claims of Russian 'threats' north, east, west, south, somewhat of Ukraine ... Belarus ... Poland ... wherever ... against which we must respond.

That's the narrative we're being fed.

Again.

It's amazing how everything stayed the same!

This stayed the same:

Donald Trump can't stop praising Vladimir Putin.

At a campaign rally in Georgia over the weekend, the former President, again, praised Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"The smartest one gets to the top," Trump told the crowd. "That didn't work so well recently in our country. But they ask me, 'Is Putin smart?' Yes, Putin was smart. And I actually thought he was going to be negotiating. I said, 'That's a hell of a way to negotiate, put 200,000 soldiers on the border.'"

Trump added that Putin made a "big mistake," but that "it looked like a great negotiation."

That all sounds a lot like what Trump has been saying about Putin almost since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

"I went in yesterday and there was a television screen, and I said, 'This is genius,'" Trump said during an interview with conservative radio hosts last month. "Putin declares a big portion of the Ukraine -- of Ukraine. Putin declares it as independent. Oh, that's wonderful."

The very next day, Trump said almost the same thing.

"They say, 'Trump said Putin's smart.' I mean, he's taking over a country for two dollars' worth of sanctions," Trump told a crowd at a fundraiser at Mar-a-Lago, according to a recording of the event. "I'd say that's pretty smart. He's taking over a country -- really a vast, vast location, a great piece of land with a lot of people, and just walking right in."

Then, in a speech to the Conservative Political Action Conference several days later, Trump tripled down. "Yesterday reporters asked me if I thought President Putin was smart," he said. "I said, 'Of course, he's smart,' to which I was greeted with 'Oh, that's such a terrible thing to say.' I like to tell them, 'Yes, he's smart.'"

Don't overthink it: Trump keeps saying it because he believes it.

We saw time and again during his presidency that Trump is attracted to the strength and unapologetic nature of authoritarian rulers like Putin. It now seems pretty clear that Trump meant what he initially said about Putin.

Trump's praise of Putin then is a feature, not a glitch. He says it -- and keeps saying it -- because he is genuinely admiring of the supposed might the Russian president is showing in invading Ukraine. It's that simple.

Never forget that during a photo-op with Putin on the sidelines of the G20 meeting in Japan in 2019, Trump said this of the media: "Get rid of them. Fake news is a great term, isn't it? You don't have this problem in Russia but we do." To which Putin said: "We also have. It's the same."
