Amazing...

Computers today are so far advanced that at the time of this paper he had access to a computer that was 32 MILLION times as powerful as the 1980's Nintendo.

Using emulators and save states, he was able to make a machine so good at Super Mario Brothers that it could make your head spin.....

At the same time, it didn't know how to play Tetris, so rather than lose, it will just stack blocks on top of each other and pause the game infinitely rather than lose.

It's actually pretty amazing, and it's even better knowing that he's such a huge dork that it wasn't even a serious thing for him.

Wow... the magazine article I read was pretty great, but seeing the program in action is amazing.

Do you understand how many years it took me of playing Super Mario Bros. at friends' houses who could afford Nintendo took me and my own Bros?

It's so cool that this guy made a program who can make a bitch of the first few levels..... I wonder what a full fledged AI like Frostbite 3 could do to Super Mario Bros.?

I started out playing this game at the arcade while my dad fed us quarters on "his weekend" (i know..... you got to live it to truly learn it.....)

I was at my cousin's house with my brothers when I beat it. We had been playing that stupid game for years.

When I play a game today, I can always "save state" right before hard parts that plagued me.

It's kind of sad.... Those games were super hard and super fun when I grew up. No fun in them when you can beat anyone of them in 30 minutes using save states. As long as you're gonna waste your time with it, might as well have Playfun blaze through it in 5 minutes.

I wonder if Playfun plays Blaster Master..... nah.... it's gotta be too hard for it still...

What an awesome NES song anyhow though... huh?

For me, emulation is King and I gave away all of my systems and games and dvds.

This would be pretty cool to own though....

This game is INSANELY HARD.

Rock Band Heros or even regular musciacians need not apply.

It would seriously take Rainman to master these songs.

And now for something to completely puke about.....

I never had a problem getting very deep into this game, but I can see how some might be distracted.

The higher the score, the deeper you go.

It's funny as hell seeing people try to hold the vomit down from motion sickness as you throw the Tetris blocks around like nothing, no matter how crazy it gets.

Funn as hell, this game is with friends. :)

And that's only less than 10 minutes into it......

Yep... no black and white even here... and forget about the screen-wide "fuzzies" that show up later.

A noble attempt, and quite possibly the furthest recorded attempt at Lockjaw.

It goes a hell of a lot deeper than that though.

Maybe you could record it someday :)

Seriously..... watch the video....

Skip about halfway. It's videos of this AI program making a bitch of Super Mario Bros.

It even bitches out Sue and the other Ghosts in Pac-Man, but lethargically takes a million years to clear a board and seems to have more fun showing off it's perfect timing and dancing through the ghosts that would easily kill any of us 92% of the time.

My favorite thing about the program is how it uses emulator save states.

I do that when playing old games now. Games that I might have played 500 times and never found the end i could now save at the beginning of every new level and play them over and over until I beat them.

5 minutes of me playing a game and reloading twice..........

This program already played those 5 minutes 80 Million times and kept using those save states to keep progressing on the correct path.. It also has the ability to speed or slow game time.

Now when it plays, it does every single thing right to make the absolute possible highest score on the first level of SMB....

Whatever genius you know, they ain't gonna beat this dumb little program....
