What's your favorite episode of Firefly? Mine would have to be "War Stories", even thought we all know what happens to Mal and Wash...

My technical favorite is the pilot episode Serenity. It was the perfect set up to the 'Verse.

But the sentimental favorite is Train Job because it was my actual introduction to the show.

I loved the part when Inara came yo get them. XD The shiniest part was probably when Wash stood up to Jayne, saying he wouldn't leave without his wife.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

The correct response is, "All of them!"

As far as the writing, acting, and overall concept, I'd have to go with "Objects in Space." However, the pilot "Serenity" will always have a special place in my heart, since it was a great beginning to what became an even greater season. It is unfortunate that FOX didn't agree, since it was the last they ran before the cancellation.

I'm surprised the OMR and Shindig fans have not piped up.
I'll go with Out of Gas. If Ariel had more of the CGI filled in, completed, it might be there.

I think Shindig is great, but have always thought the duel scene was poorly done, so that brings it down a notch.

I might have to go with War Stories too. The Zoe/Wash relationship is among my very favorite parts of Firefly. I feel like weaker writers might have made the Zoe/Mal/Wash thing a love triangle or something, but what it is instead is so much more interesting. Zoe and Mal understand the situation perfectly. The show just so perfectly captures how Mal and Zoe are on the same wavelength because of a shared vision/experience. There's this incredible, important human bond between the two of them. But it has nothing to do with romance. When they go to "kiss," they clearly have zero romantic chemistry. I really love seeing a male and female character have that solid relationship without there having to be any hint of sexual or romantic tension.

I also like what Zoe and Wash loving each other says about them. For Zoe in particular. It's so lovely to see their bedroom scene where she lets her guard down in a way we never otherwise see.

Sometimes I think about my favorite episode like this, though: If I had only ever seen 13 of the episodes and the 14th was released now, which one would move me the most. And in that case, I think I have to say Out of Gas. So much background.

This is the Wife Soup episode, right?

Yeah, I was talking about the episode with wife soup initially, but I guess I wandered into a more general statement. The bedroom scene I was referring to is the one in Shindig.

I kinda felt that her uncoordinated romantic tension display with Mal was just a punishment to Wash for making such a silly conclusion. She was clearly hamming it up, and only for Wash's benefit.
But the wife soup does bring out the barefoot-and-pregnant side of Zoe, the antithesis of the feminist dogma that Joss champions. Ever notice that none of the females on board can cook? River, Kaylee, Inara, Zoe? The best cook seems to be Book.

Pardon me, but your misogyny is showing. Most of their meals were various forms of processed protein, which Kaylee somehow managed to fashion into a birthday cake for Simon. But just because something is not shown on screen doesn't mean it never happened. I'm sure they traded off on preparing meals, or everyone made do for themselves. I'll bet Inara had a hot plate in her shuttle.

Oh, yeah, they were definitely just doing that to tease Wash. But, as I see it, that's exactly why it works. Neither has any interest in that other than teasing Wash.

Regarding feminist dogma, my interpretation is that Joss's intention isn't just to show women as badass warriors. It's to show women as diverse and complex characters.
