Quote:Originally posted by 1kiki: For the most part I agree. Cops need to be held to a higher standard than you sometimes see. Doesn't it make you wonder though? It does me. What WOULD it take to turn a police department around? A hospital? A banking industry? Where I work - I've been there long enough to see an ingrained culture set into stone, even when the original perpetrators are decades gone. There was an original team leader who was a lawsuit waiting to happen. But he had control of the most sophisticated instrumentation at the time, so anyone who came into his favor and wanted to continue to advance their careers, and anyone who hoped to be under his favor, just kind of shut up about what he would do to them and others. Even though he left fairly early, one budding young man who came up in 'the system' and under favor eventually became a manager, and carried on the tradition of favoritism/ disfavoritism based on nothing but personal likes and dislikes, because, well, that's how it was always done. In the meantime, the younger newer hires who came up in 'the system' and under favor of that manager are now entering into leadership roles themselves. It can just propagate. And now it's an ingrained practice and expectation, despite it having very specific historical roots that are long-dead. How does one change that?

I'm tired of scapegoating to appease the public while business as usual continues unabated. How long do you think that it will be before it will be illegal for civilians to take videos of anything outside of "designated video zones" to keep things like this from seeing the light of day? I'm already uncomfortable knowing that anytime I leave the house every idiot with a cell phone could take a video of me doing anything, and I'm sure I'm not the only one that feels that way. I don't think it would be very hard for the government to protect its own interests in this way. All they'd have to do is show a few egregious invasions of privacy on the MSM and there will be new laws enacted that allow only government cameras to be used outside of these zones.

WTF is wrong with these cops, this has been going on for some time now...black, white, brown - it doesn't matter, they still try to get away with murder. Did you see the one about the cop who said to a white person, "Don't worry, we only kill black people." That cop handed in his retirement papers. SGG Seeing the caption for that video made me stay away from it. I felt sick just reading that. Well, I'm glad that he had sense enough to do that.

Quote:Cop "business as usual" depends upon when voters wake up. The same populace that bemoans that they don't pay attention to "politics" also whines about police without reins. Cops have authorities controlling over them, chiefs, Commisioners, Mayors, City Councilmembers or Aldermen, at some point elected. When those elected cease to put up with corruption, it will end. As long as corruption is re-elected, it will continue.

There's so many privacy laws out there and differences between states and localities that even if a nurse thinks that they know the law they might not actually know the law in their locality. Let the nurses be nurses and let HR handle the administrative and legal shit. Any word on if that administrative leave includes a paid vacation for the cop?

Plus we need to get off of god-damn microsoft with its backdoors and vulnerabilities.Agreed. All of it. I've recently been forced into Linux because of a project I'm working on. Learning how to navigate things actually isn't too bad since I know a lot about DOS. I'm not a huge fan of the Linux frontend since it's too much like Mac, but the command line stuff isn't that bad once you learn the different language to make it do what you wanted it to do. Actually, it's quite a bit more powerful, and I'm kind of amazed at how much better it is. There's also nothing nicer than plugging in any random thing into a USB drive and not needing a driver for it. I plugged in some off brand USB network thumb stick from well over a decade ago and it fired up without a hitch. I was dumbfounded. Microsoft made a step in the right direction by making Windows 10 essentially free, but it's too little too late. In a year or two's time all of my PCs will be Linux based from now on.

I think Ubuntu will be the route I take when I go full Linux. I've used it from a stick, from a CD and in a VirtualBox console before. I've just never installed it yet. I'm just not a huge fan of the layout that seems to be much more user-friendly to Mac people than Windows people. I suspect they went that way because of the hatered for Microsoft, but I really wish they hadn't. Windows, for all its faults and security flaws is actually pretty great. Well... At least Windows XP was. It's been a downhill slide since then when they decided to start dumbing it down for newbs and taking out some of the old great features of the product.
