Couldn't we possibly get somebody who still frequents this site to moderate it and remove the spam?

I laughed when I first thought of that, because I can't imagine it would be a good idea to give anybody here that amount of power outside of Haken, but it's apparent that he's moved on to other things now. There's not much spam here, but he can't be bothered to remove it anymore.

I'm not bitching, mind... It's really cool that the site even exists anymore.

I'd trust Brenda with that task. And that just about wraps up the short list of people that I think everyone that still comes here would trust with it.

Not trying to push any responsibilities on you or anything Brenda.

Actually, I send Haken a list now and then, but I don't bother him for every errant thread. He has two other jobs and a family.

Spam happens. Deal with it. There are bigger fish to fry.

Speaking of scams...

If anybody tells you that they're going to take your "XYZ" account hostage and they know your password, just report it as a phishing scam to your email provider.

I've been doing a lot of research on computer viruses lately and the ransomware is becoming pretty serious business. Be very careful what you install on your computer, because there are now viruses that will zip and encrypt all of your documents, pictures, videos and anything else you have on your drive and you will be almost 100% unable to reverse the encryption unless you send the money to the person who made the virus. Pretty scary stuff.

They'll order you to send a USD amount in Bitcoin according to their instructions to get your files back and even then who knows if they have also downloaded everything on your drive while the encryption happened as well.

I got a very similar email to this type of scam yesterday that said they knew my password to linkdin, which they didn't, but they were banking on the "fact" that I was one of the idiots that would put linkdin123 as the password. They said they had complete control of my account now and also threatened that they would put all sorts of homosexual images on my profile for anyone to see on my page if I did not send them $3,000 in Bitcoin within 48 hours.

I could see how this type of thing would be scary to somebody who wasn't familiar with scams like this and who might have used a very insecure password.

If you think any of your accounts have ever been compromised, be sure to log in and change the password.
